    Instructor with son (9)
    Mike M.

This facility is super clean, with 2 areas for ramps rails slides jump straps. Instructors, Brian and Mike, are great with the kids. My nine-year-old son had a wonderful time learning 10 and his first hour lessons did it more than I had expected. I would highly recommend for anybody in the area interested in a skate park and instruction. The no pressure and no contract commitment is great too! Only set price of $20 is a great deal and quality!

Not unlike the witch from the film The Witch sucking the blood from a baby to maintain her youthfulness. Anyway. I had an opportunity to help pick up trash at Major Taylor Skatepark, and I jumped at the chance. To my surprise, there wasn't a whole lot of trash to pick up, because the skatepark is relatively clean. I get the feeling that the people who use the skatepark respect it and the people who use it. I saw lots of skaters out that day, from adults to toddlers, using the skatepark and having a good time. If you want to feel happy, just hang out at Major Taylor for a while. It was good to see so many people out on a nice day, being active, getting along, doing something fun together and alone all at once.

Highly suggest this place if you just want to get outside and do something free for an hour or so.

With riverfront and canal-front trails, a pedestrian bridge to the zoo, proximity to the city, and the amphitheater, so much goes on down here. Over the years, my favorite special events have been the food truck festival and the solar eclipse festival. The area is kept to be pedestrian friendly, with parking being underground to the park and wide walking and biking lanes. During warmer weather, I often see a hotdog vendor for a nice and easy lunch. There's lots of sculptures around the park too, which helps to keep things scenic. There's also a huge lawn space for running around.

From the canal and trails to the open green spaces, there's something here for everyone to enjoy. Plenty of smaller festivals and walks/runs are held at this park, and it truly seems like the perfect spot for them. My favorite festival that happens here is the Taste of Indy, which takes place in the summer and the MS Walk is always a well organized event here. I also really enjoy walking the paths behind the zoo, especially in the spring when the cherry blossom trees are in bloom. Absolutely gorgeous! Ps - As beautiful as it is, be sure to stay alert while on the pathways!

First established in 1946, the park is named after Bahr (you could probably guess that, eh?). Dr. Bahr was born in Indy in 1874 and graduated from medical school at the University of Berlin in 1908. In 1923, he was named Superintendent of Central State. The park is, unfortunately, a fairly barebones park. While this neighborhood is experiencing some serious renewal these days, so far this has not translated into a better park experience. The park has two soccer fields, a playground (non-ADA), and a paved parking lot. Generally, it looks quite worn but does get lots of use within the neighborhood. As recently as 2010, former Mayor Ballard was talking about building a major sports complex in this space. Alas, that hasn't yet happened. It was to include six baseball diamonds, skating rinks, and other features. Given the area's massive improvement, perhaps it's still in the cards. For now, Max Bahr Park is certainly nothing more than a modest neighborhood park and certainly not one of Indy's destination parks. I happened to be driving by today and stopped to check it out as my brother used to live in this area. If you're in the area, you do have some nearby amenities and recent business additions that are worth checking out.

It is 38 acres and used to be a farmstead before being purchased by the city in 2003. The original farmstead is still being used for educational programs and is managed by Maplelawn Farmstead, Inc. There is tons of parking here spread across three sections. One near the front and skate park. The other, in the center, near the prairie, and the other near the back pavilions, playground and splash pad. This park has about 3 picnic shelters with picnic tables under it and grills right outside of it. There is a decent full court basketball court there. It is in pretty good shape. The park also features a pretty nice splash pad, however, it was closed for the season during my visit. It has a bunch of colorful spray structures and benches along the fence that parents can sit on and watch their kids splash around. The playground is lined with wood chips and has more of your traditional equipment. The equipment is in excellent shape and includes a small jungle gym, rock climbing walls, monkey bars, a bank of swings with a couple of traditional swings, toddler swings and ADA swings, a small jungle gym with slides, and a set of pebble path pods. The play ground is fenced in to keep the little ones from running off and has benches along the inside perimeter of the fence to sit. The bathroom facility is right between the splash pad and playground area. It is nice as far as bathrooms goes and is connected to a picnic shelter on the side and has an uncovered patio area with picnic tables in front of it. Your will see green space for days here. A large portion of which is lighted. It is well maintained and is multi-purpose. It can be used for most any outdoor activity including a picnic, football, soccer, playing catch, field hockey, or flying a kite. Right behind the green space is a monster hill. I saw people using it to work out while I was there, more power to them. It would make for some awesome sledding after a snow. Near the front of the park is a skate park. It is small but nice. No bike allowed, only boards. They have a small maze like fence that is made to try to prevent people from bringing bike in. Some of the stuff in the park includes a pool, stairs, rails, ramps, and other stuff that I have no idea what they are. The walking trail here is a 1 mile loop and is one of the better trails that I have been on. It is well maintained and can be used for running, jogging or walking the dog. It goes around the park's green space and hill. This is a very nice Zionsville Park. It checks all the boxes of what you would want in a park. I like this park a lot. It is well maintained and has top notch amenities. You could easily spend a day to a half of a day here.

Being right next to Avon's somewhat newer town hall, this park definitely goes all out with amenities - an 18-hole disc golf course (elevation issues for those with disabilities), a Bocce court, three bodies of water (9-acre Town Hall Park Lake, a small pond to the east of the lake, and 3-acre Sycamore Lake), paved trails, picnic tables, ping pong tables, playgrounds, restrooms, shelters, AND the only free, public outdoor radio control race track in Hendricks County! The bocce ball court is located along the path connecting the park to the Kroger Shopping area. NOTE: Balls are not provided. Take your own balls. (He says with a slightly naughty grin). Fishing is allowed, however, Avon Town Hall Lakes are catch and release only and do require a state fishing license. No nets are allowed. Swimming, wading, ice fishing, and ice skating are not allowed on the ponds. The "200 Years" sculpture was commissioned or the bicentennial. If you know my work on children's issues, you can probably guess that I would appreciate the park's "Angel of Hope" memorial dedicated to parents who have lost children. It's a memorial I find myself visiting any time I'm in Avon (which is less often these days as I'm down to one surviving family member, but most of my family lived in Putnam County just west). I do find that sometimes Avon can be a bit slow to clear brush from the trails, a fact that can be difficult for wheelchair users. However, for the most part I'd easily call the trails wheelchair friendly. I'd just be more careful during Fall and Winter months especially. Parking is super easy here, shelters can be rented, and the playground areas are always kept clean. Avon is a lovely little community and this park really reflects the pride they take in their community.

It has a decent sized private parking lot, a basketball court, a baseball field, a covered pavilion, restrooms, a playground and 4 soccer fields. The park is relatively well maintained. In other words, it is ok. It currently has some construction going on in the front by the parking lot. The basketball court is very in bad shape. It appears to have had some patch work done which has since come apart. It looks really bad, but is playable. The baseball field was very muddy, probably due to the park's poor drainage. The park's covered pavilion is co-located with restroom facilities and has picnic tables under it. There are grills right outside the pavilion. The pavilion is available for rent. The soccer fields are the best maintained aspect of the park and appears to be used as part of a youth rec league. The playground is relatively small and consists of a jungle gym with slides. there is also only one toddler swing. The play area's ground was covered in wood chips and dirt. The park has a small paved walkway that can be used to run or jog up and down. The park is not as popular as many other area parks, outside of recreation baseball/softball and soccer. It also has some major drainage issues, after some rain. Currently, it is not very quiet either, since they have a lot of construction going on.

The park is mainly a sports park, with a fenced skate park, basketball court, a baseball diamond,…read moreand several flat areas that look like they are soccer fields. Since the park is located next to an elementary school, it appears to have a convenient location for school activities and access to some parking on the east side. Other amenities include a shelter with picnic tables and restrooms, a single grill for charcoal, playground equipment and lots of overhead lights for the fields. However, the park has not had the benefits of access and design. The west side of the park has a large (and convenient) parking lot which has a single access road from the neighborhood on the west edge of the park. If you go when there is not an event, getting in and out isn't that difficult. But if there is a soccer league playing and lots of folks try leaving at the same time, this can become a real bottleneck. Also, the neighborhood itself is one designed with lots of curving roads, so unless you are familiar with the side streets, it can be quite challenging to find. (The best way is to come from Meridian Street to Park Drive and follow Park Drive to the lot. Note that Meridian is only accessible from County Line Road to the north or Main Street to the south.) Another problem is improper drainage. During my visit, the playgrounds and the walkways had numerous puddles deep enough to thoroughly soak your feet. I understand that building in lots of drainage is an expensive proposition, but be aware that if you stop by after a rainy day, you may have limited access to the equipment. Review #505
