I don't know why on Earth Q Ball is anything less then 5 Stars for anyone with a pulse. Wonderful atmosphere, friendly and motivated staff, great prices; many dart boards, many full size billiard tables with super flat/level slates/clean pockets, and top flight competition. When I walked into this café, I thought ... WOW, nice pool hall! I like all the pool tables on one side of the facility and then all of the dartboard and a 13th table on the other side. (Should trade in that overflow table for an air hockey table!) Anyway, I thought the place was great. The drink selection is really limited. Plenty of beer and cider, but for people who don't drink beer and cider the selections are REALLY limited. No wine! None ... not a drop. And the liquor displayed was bottom end ... Jack, Jim, and a few other headache kind of names. Nothing good. But, the one thing that will keep me from going back was getting the bill for shooting pool. Most other places charge by the hour per table, so that keeps things reasonable. Q Ball Café charges $0.12 per person at the table, and they do not have a means of keeping track who actively is playing pool during that time, so if you are associated with a pool table, you are getting charged $0.12 per minute ($7.20 per hour). Other locations are A LOT cheaper that this Café. It's really too bad ... - great set-up - need to fix the bar selections to include something for everybody - BUT, STOP OVERCHARGING FOR POOL!!! Right now, I won't be back because of the cost of playing pool. read more

Really wanted to shoot some pool with friends, so we came by Q Ball for a table and drinks. This spot allows customers to smoke inside, so at first, I was hesitant to stay. But it was not smoky inside AT ALL, and I barely even smelled cigarettes so it wasn't a game-stopper for me. The tables were nice with plenty of space in between them. The bartenders and servers are constantly checking in on you, so our glasses were never empty. It was really good service. I notice some of the complaints people have posted, so let's get a few things clear: - If you're looking to play some pool on legit tables, this spot is perfect. - If you're looking to have a cocktail, you're covered. - I can't comment on food because I don't eat at pool halls. Overall, this place is solely for drinks and pool. Yeah, they smoke inside, but the ventilation keeps the air clear and you won't leave smelling like cigarettes. (At least we didn't.) It did get a little warm inside, but our server immediately took care of us and positioned a fan to keep us comfy. However, I do wish the establishment kicked down the AC a tad bit. I mean... we are in hot ass Virginia during the summer. (Plus, humidity is not good for the tables.) If it weren't for the fan, we would've gone elsewhere. We all had a great time and expect to come back again soon. I hope they consider turning down the AC to keep the patrons comfy. read more

Rude staff. The lady today was an @$$hole. Doesn't know what professionalism means. Every word comes from her mouth is a curse. Group of us went in and she asked for ID from everyone and we weren't there to drink. Just to play pool she needed hard copy. One of us had digital copy and she wouldn't accept it and again very disrespectfully she declined to give us access. I will never recommend this to my group of people. This place is years past it's prime. When you first walk in it is obvious that no money has been put into this place in a very long time. On weeknights it is EXTREMELY smoky (need to seriously ban smoking, most places already have done do). The carpet is filthy and needed to be changed 10+ years ago, needs paint, new ceiling tiles, new bathrooms, furniture ect. From a pool players perspective it is obvious that the owner is not a pool player. Here are a few things to keep in mind if you want to be labeled a pool hall with legit equipment. 1. For 9' tables, the lights over these tables are well below standards for what is required for a 9' regulation table. For example, you should NEVER have the 3 light bulb configuration that is currently over them. The playing surface is has too many dark spots because the lighting is not adequate. You can easily get LED lights that will span the entire length of the tables to provide enough lumens. Home Depot sells lights for less than $100 bucks each that will do the job if hung at the correct height. The lights that are used at Your Place in Richmond are better. The lights could have been replaced at a rate of 1 per month if cost is an issue. 2. The tables are not a known brand, however, if maintained properly they can play decent. You need a GOOD table mechanic to rotate the fabric every year (or more). To replace the cloth with Simonis 860 professionally it will run approximately $600-$800 per table. ALWAYS re-level and check the cushions after each install. Currently the tables are beyond filthy and play very unpredictably. This is easily preventable if the staff would enforce fines when the fabric gets damaged and not let people do whatever they like to them. 3. The balls are terrible. The cue ball used on these tables are NOT the correct ball for the set provided. The cueball is smaller and weighs less. The cueball provided may come from an english billiards set which are smaller. So you have a smaller cueball striking larger and heavier balls. This makes it extremely difficult to play with predicable results. The cueball is extremely hard to control. You can get a set of balls for less than $400. If you can't afford that then a new cueball is $30. Save the garbage balls for the ball beaters and give the better sets to the league players. 4. The tables IF they get resurfaced then they HAVE to be inspected before and AFTER EACH AND EVERY TIME THEY GET USED to check for damages. If there is damages (spilled drinks, dirty hand prints, small rips...ect) then the customer SHOULD be charged an extra fee so that the table can be resurfaced on time. Not enforcing this allows anyone to do whatever they like to the tables with no consequences. I would have no problem pay greens fee in addition to the regular table time IF the tables were in pristine condition and I knew they would remain that way. IF it is maintained better and some effort and money were to be put into it the quality of players would improve, people would travel to compete there and tournaments would be successful. The service and food and alcohol are all your typical bar food and service. Nice people, not terrible food and everything seems decently priced. Unfortunately there are VERY FEW options to play pool in Fredericksburg so this place can be a gem and attract monster tournaments and events IF it is run properly. You have to spend money to make money. If the owner is confused all they have to do is go up north to the pool halls in northern VA, MD and even at VA beach. This guy has a monopoly on the poolhalls in Fredericksburg and he isn't taking advantage of it. Bottom line if you are a league player or a Billy Bob Ball Beater with no expectations then this place won't disappoint. But if you are a player then this place is a hard, firm pass. It is a shame that such a place is wasted that IS THE ONLY PLACE IN TOWN and as such can make a ton of money. read more

I've never seen a bigger gap between the image a place presents online, vs. how it is in real life. This place is SO MUCH BETTER than you'd guess from their website and online reviews. It's nuts. Don't be fooled, it's an actual pool hall. If you go on their website you'll see like 5 terrible low-res pics, only one shows the pool tables if you squint hard, and the rest is booze, karaoke, and some tattooed girls in bikinis. The facebook page is worse... it's all T&A ads for drink specials, or posters for special events featuring poledancing contests, poker, deejays you never heard of, and local bands. Based on their online presence, you'd think this joint is a dirty strip bar blasting loud redneck-friendly live music, filled with alcoholics and staffed by skanky girls in cutoffs. But it's actually just a normal pool room with surprisingly decent 9-foot tables. Not a rough crowd. Good fast cloth, not stained or ripped, decent rails and balls, and enough space to shoot comfortably. Music from a touchtunes jukebox, and friendly service from the 2 beths. It's not smoky, dirty, or dim. It's not dominated by a stage (with or without a pole). It's not a bar that happens to have a few tables. It's an actual pool hall where good players can enjoy themselves for a few hours (though maybe not on the nights featuring live acts). I was pleasantly surprised. They should work on their website and put up better photos - there's no reason they should lose any pool business to the nearby Green Room. Once someone sees what this place is really about, they'll come back. read more

I do not normally write reviews before going to a place. But tonight I am making an exception. I am going to q ball cafe tonight. Many people say this place is warm and inviting but the cigarette smoke turns people away. They say the food and drinks are reasonably priced. I was going to give this place a good review to throw off the rating, but I was very underwhelmed. This is the type of place where you would not want to go home with any of the women because there are so many stoge smokers. The food was okay but the stench of lung cancer turned me off. 2 stars. read more

I went there on Saturday night . 99% white and I think I was the only person not white , lol. Not big deal but just to give you an idea . They were welcoming , which I felt home after 10 mnts . They had 4 bands playing , which was not bad . It s a good place to have couple drinks with friends , especially if your going with your boys to play pool , billiard , and couple other board games . Saw couple guys coming with their own pool sticks , so you might be able to meet some pool pros , if your into pool . read more

Billards party - celebrating my niece's birthday.. lots of tables .. diverse group here tonight, comfortable atmosphere, no competing for a table - fun place-cool people. Service was good! I gave it 4 out of 5 stars due to the cigarette smoke inside.. I discovered Virginia still allows smoking in public places.. YUCK! read more

This place is a great place to hang out with friends. Everyone I ran into was friendly. The prices for food and drinks are reasonable. The only downfall is that smoking is allowed. The place literally becomes filled with smoke like inside of chimney. Hence the two stars. read more

I don't go here very often, but I'm rating it this high because there just aren't that many places that still have BANDS playing live music. Not to mention hard rocking bands, and original acts. First of all if you're wealthy and like going to dive bars, disregard this message. This place is full of friendly locals and good deals on beer. That's it. You can have a great time if you're just there to talk to locals. The place itself advertises as a pool location. Apparently they charge almost 20 dollars per game! They do not tell you this upfront. We went for drinks and a couple of games and got charged almost 160 dollars for a group of 4 to play 3 hours worth of pool. Sound good? Congrats, go here and listen to Dinsey music because that's all thats on the jukebox. Put money in the jukebox? We did. 20 dollars worth of songs. We didn't hear a single song requested in that time frame. The people are friendly, i hate giving bad reviews, but were over charged and had a bad experience. Try at your own descretion. It's your money at this point. Just make sure they don't JIP or GIP you on the pool prices. read more
