They sell their chili spices in little kits for $4.00! I bought 3 for stocking stuffers.

Pretty nondescript on the outside and not in the greatest of area but that said I came back and brought my husband. First visit I stopped in for a quick coke during the week of Christmas and tried their 4-flavor chili sampler. Was really impressed by the size of the place, beer selection and friendly services. Fart forward to New Years hubby wanted to watch football with a beer and I instantly knew where I was taking him - Hard Times! See my husband has a Chili Dog addiction, no really he would eat them every day if given the choice. Hard times ticks all the boxes - chili dogs, beer and ample screens to watch the games on. I don't like the cigarette smoke at all but they do their best to filter the air. I just know if we come here to the bar side I need to wear clothes that will be washed immediately and plan to have a shower as soon as I get home. The restaurant side is non-smoking.

Sampler. Clockwise From bottom left: Texas, Cincinnati, Vegetarian, Terlingua Red.

As seems to be a corporate ethos, the service here is top tier. I was seated immediately, and didn't have to wait long at all for my server to appear. I wanted something mildly custom, and she didn't even bat an eye. My food came out almost immediately, maybe 60 seconds after ordering. My chili pie was up to Hard Times' standards, and was perfect. The food came out so fast that the server forgot my drink, until I asked again. She was mortified and apologetic, but brought my drink right out. Great service and the best chili in the area make this a fantastic dinner stop. Thanks, Hard Times!!

In fact, at the 1.5 hour mark, the waitress indicated that they were starting the dish (curry pasta with salmon) and wanted to know if I was sure I wanted to leave. Of course I said - yes! During the 1.5 hour time, the waitress came to our table at the 40 minute mark and indicated there was a "situation", apologized for the delay, and indicated if I wanted to order something else. Otherwise, I could wait another 15-20 minutes. I figured the time it takes to prepare another order I might as well get the original dish I ordered. About the 1 hour mark, the waitress asked if I wanted something. I queried - complementary? She said yes. So I ordered some wings. After finishing the wings, it was time to leave. Overall - I thought I was on Candid Camera - where they were trying to see how long I'd wait for their curry pasta. Baffling at the very least - but will not go there again. And for the coup de grace - for a majority of the time - we (2 people including my self) were the only customers. I can ever so clearly see why.

The hamburger was literally half the size of the bun. They gave me about a teaspoon of salsa on it. Nothing else on it. And the meat was dried out. The fries were fine. The whole place runs like somebody's mama is standing in the back with a wooden spoon making sure everybody behaves. The hostess and the three different folks who wandered by our table all had smiles big enough to convince you they actually meant 'em, and they moved with the kind of purpose you usually only see when the preacher says "one more hymn" and everybody knows he's lying. The food? Seasoned just right and hot enough to make you sit up straight and remember your manners. It hit the table so fast I'm convinced they started cooking it when we pulled into the parking lot. The décor looked like somebody cared--special ordered, thoughtful, and not one inch of it threatening to slip into that baroque "my aunt went to Tijuana once" look some places can't resist. But the real star was the cleanliness. Floors, tables, corners--everything shining like a Marine's Sunday shoes. Robles is the kind of place that reminds you good food and good people still exist.

They had some seasonal drinks that we tried, which were good, but we really loved some of their staples like the rose quarts spritz and the London fog sour. The service was a little off the night we came in - timing issues with getting food out and lots of drama/comments between the staff. Nothing that was so off putting I wouldn't come back though! I think this would be a great stop if you're looking for somewhere before dinner or a light bite.

I went out the other night to meet a couple of friends, and we decided on Harry's Sidecar. I've…read moreeaten at Harry's before, but this was my first time experiencing the Sidecar--and I loved it. The space is cozy, with a nice mix of tables, bar seating, and comfy couches. Their cocktail menu is full of fun holiday options, and the small plates menu offers plenty to choose from if you're hungry. I ordered the London Fog Sour, the classic crab dip, and the birria eggrolls. The London Fog Sour might honestly be one of my favorite cocktails I've had downtown--I loved it so much I ordered a second one. I'll be going back just for that drink. The crab dip was its usual reliable, delicious self, and the birria eggrolls were flavorful and packed with meat. Our server was fantastic and helped us decide which small plates to try. Overall, Harry's Sidecar is an excellent choice if you're looking for an intimate spot to enjoy happy hour, whether you're solo or with a group. I absolutely recommend giving it a try!
