I am visiting from out of town this week and I needed a place to work out....b/c all I do is eat when I'm in Memphis. I just happened to find UFK online via martial arts search and I'm glad that I did. They just moved to a new location and the facility is very nice. I've been taking the kickboxing classes every day this week and...YES!! I'M SORE! The lactic acid buildup is fabulous. The bags that they use are muay thai bags - so they're VERY solid/hard....great for conditioning the shins (if you plan on using them as lethal weapons). Every class I've taken this week has been different - Tony and John shake things up, keep it interesting, keep you moving....and if you're not soaked by the end of class, you're slacking. They also do personal training and other martial arts. Highly recommended.

I asked to pause for a while for legitimate reasons, but was denied. I attended for 8 months, paid for 4 I was unable to attend, then they charged me for an additional month. They tried explaining it to me that they needed to charge me on the first and the last of the month, but I guess it wasn't registering for me why I had to pay 13 payments for a 12 month contract. Very shady. And very rude and dismissive when I brought it up, not even trying to look into or understand the situation. I didn't make this a one star review because I really loved the instructors and my time there. It's honestly a shame. I had no idea other people were having the same experience, this can't be legal. I feel like they are setting themselves up for a lawsuit for no reason.

I was going to be in Memphis over the Christmas holidays and sent an email. Received a response from Brooke the same day encouraging me to drop in. Wanted to ensure that I created the proper approach, so I asked about the cost to attend a few drop-in classes while in town. She provided information on Bot's Boxing which operates from the same building at Memphis Judo. Brooke was very welcoming and instead of payment, asked for a review of their facility, instructors and the environment. Turns out the Groupon was actually for their fitness boxing classes, which wasn't made clear to me until after I'd already taken two kickboxing classes. Whoops! Those two classes left me sore, drenched in sweat, and ready to do it again ASAP. I had A.O. as the instructor for my first class and Henry for the second class. They were both awesome. Neither of them let me fly under the radar or use the newbie card, which was fine by me. The music was great and everyone was so encouraging. Bless the woman who stood next to me during the second class and gave me tips the entire time! I'm kind of bummed they don't have a single-class/drop-in rate. I just can't justify adding another gym membership right now, but I'll keep them in mind for when one of my memberships run out.

My son has been training at Midtown Krav Maga and Jiu Jitsu for over a year in the kids' classes…read more Josh (the owner) and all his instructors are awesome with the kids. It has really improved my son's confidence and coordination, and it's a relief to know he's able to defend himself if need be. The kids' classes are both krav maga and bjj (they have classes 4 evenings a week, with a gi two days, without a gi the other two), so they get grappling and striking experience. After his first class, my son said he enjoyed it and would like to come back. A year later, he has a 6 foot tall grappling dummy, a punching bag, mats for grappling in the living room, and he told me when he grows up he wants to own a krav/bjj gym. So I recommend Midtown Krav Maga and Jiu Jitsu to anyone looking for a positive, practical way for their kids to learn self defense and maybe find a new obsession.

I find that I am much more relaxed if I don't have to watch my stomach rolls reflected back at me in a floor-to-ceiling mirror. The facility is clean, classes affordable. The paper towels in the restroom were difficult to find- they are enclosed in a white trim shelf, and pop out from the bottom.
