So after going to Soulcycle when I was home in NYC in December, I decided to give Purvelo a second chance, and I'm glad that I did. The instructors and front desk reps are so friendly and took the time to get to know me at the cheer station for the 10 miler event last week and before/after the regular classes. I accidentally left my water bottle at my bike last night, and emailed the team. The owner, Kristin, was an angel and alerted the staff. One of the instructors and the front desk advised me of where the lost and found is and helped me figure out which one it was. Thank you for that because that bottle is expensive, lol I am literally sweating my fat away in these classes. I step on the scale every morning and noticed that I have lost three pounds this week. When I went last year, I lost ten pounds in about three weeks. I also feel "refreshed" and like a brand new person after my classes. After my contract ends with another boutique gym in the area and if I stay in the Cville area (I'm out of the area 5 days a week/12 hours a day for work right now), I will alternate monthly between going here and the other gyms in the area (I like to mix up fitness routines because I get bored easily). Parking is still a little tricky in the evenings, but since I signed up for the early morning classes, it has been a breeze (knocks on wood). I'm not a morning person, so not wanting to go back to sleep after classes taken at this studio is pretty awesome. That's how great the instructors are. Please do not change, Purvelo. read more

I have to preface this review with coming from REV Cycle studio in Baltimore, I have high standards for cycling studios. I was pleasantly surprised with this studio! I was in town for one weekend and wanted to try the studio and they kindly offer a complimentary free first class. I came for an early Sunday morning class and was greeted with very kind staff members happy to help or answer questions. The class itself was different than I expected, but still an overall great workout. They are very Soul Cycle like with the combinations of upper body crunches and push ups style dance moves, which was the one draw back for me. I am more into the hardcore HIIT style bike work outs and am not coordinated enough to mix in the crunches and moves along with fast cycling. The instructor, Robyn, was great and very energetic and kept the energy high the entire class. Overall I would come back to this studio to try a different classes and instructors! read more

12/10 would recommend!! Best cycling studio in Charlottesville hands down. The closest that you'll get to a SoulCycle experience in Charlottesville - but honestly harder than Soul, in my opinion! There are a lot of people that take classes there, but it really is a community. The owners and instructors are amazing and really take time to get to know you by name. They also host birthday parties, fundraising events, pre-wedding bridal party rides, etc. The classes are 45 minutes, but they also offer 60 minute "extra pur" classes if you're really feeling it. The entire room is dark except for candles on the podium with the instructor so you don't have to worry about anyone seeing you. The music is everything from Dance/EDM to top 40 hits to hip hop. It caters to people of all skill levels, but you're going to SWEAT. Also men, don't fret - guys are in the room too. Try it out! Your first class is free! And they have an amazing deal for your first month. If you don't have cycling shoes, they have them there to rent for $2. read more

Purvelo is my go-to gym in Charlottesville. I am University of Virginia student and I purchased the 20 class pack for this semester. I go twice a week and have really enjoyed the welcoming, inviting environment and look forward to getting to know the staff better. This place feels intimate and cozy but also trendy and well-kept. I have been to Zoom and Purvelo, and I would say Purvelo offers the most Soul Cycle-esque workout. They have three candles at the front of the room and minimal other lighting, which makes for a good, intense workout. The instructors are personal, engaging and on beat. And I've never been to a class where the music was anything other than phenomenal (I'm always wishing I could grab their playlists...) Each class is a little different, per instructor personality, but I find that helpful so I don't get bored. You are absolutely guaranteed to get a great full body workout and sweat A LOT. When I first purchased my spin shoes, I called Purvelo to see if they could help me put my cleats in. I just popped in while they were hanging out in between classes and they gave me lots of advice/info and offered to help me whenever I need it. *Bonus: They offer their first class (and accompanying shoe rental) for free, which is how I initially was hooked. Awesome workout, super friendly staff. The studio always seems clean and organized, the bathrooms are large and have showers, and the actual bikes get cleaned frequently. Lately all of the instructors seem incredibly competent and every class is equally effective/fun. However, the only thing that has kept me from giving a five star review is the fact that Vanessa no longer works there. She brought a good energy to that space. You can find her at Pure Barre now. FRIEKEN AMAZING! A life with an extremely draining and stressful job this place made my time off a thousand times better! The atmosphere the awesome staff and the incredible energizing workout !!!!!!! Kristin, Vanessa and Maxine are hands down the most amazing instructors!! My first day and it was an amazing experience. The place was tidy and well organized, the staff was super attentive and friendly, and most importantly the workout was great. Did I mention that for a workout that literally has you drenched in sweat, there was no noticeable smell? The pricing is reasonable for a specialized gym such as this. read more

This place kicked my butt! I came here for a class while visiting in town and definitely felt the burn after. The staff were nice, bathrooms were private and spacious, and the class was the right amount of challenging. Would definitely return! Only negative is the parking situation which can get a little tricky around this area. read more
