Disappointed After a Promising First Visit…read more If I were rating this place based solely on our first visit a few days ago, it would absolutely be 5 stars. The coffee was excellent, the staff including the owner were warm and welcoming, and we left excited to come back thinking we found our new favorite coffee place in Wilkes Barre. Unfortunately, our second experience (Sunday, July 13th around 1 PM) was the complete opposite and really disappointing. The barista/cashier that day treated us in a noticeably cold and annoyed manner, and we're still unsure what prompted it. I can't help but feel that implicit bias and how I looked played a role--especially as an Asian woman with a White partner. The barista was NOT white. As a bedside RN from Southern California and former flight attendant for a major international airline in the Middle East, I've been trained extensively in customer service and cultural sensitivity. I know what respectful service looks like--and more importantly, how it feels. No customer should leave a café feeling unwelcome, especially when they've been nothing but polite . We waited patiently in line while the barista chatted with the customer ahead of us--my boyfriend mentioned they were discussing protests. When it was our turn, the shift in her demeanor was immediate . Her warmth and friendliness is now gone. She scowled as soon as I stepped forward, gave off a clear attitude while I placed our order, and even interrupted me mid-sentence with an annoyed , "Wait, I can't multi-task." My boyfriend wanted to say something, but we let it go. Despite this, we still paid, tipped, and quietly left. Not even a "thank you" from the staff. We were genuinely excited to support this place again. The coffee is fantastic but no drink is good enough to justify being treated rudely. We won't be returning if there's even a chance of being on the receiving end of that kind of attitude again. If you're in the service industry, every customer deserves the same courtesy--not just the ones you personally connect with. Please consider that.

The Main Bean - Bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich on everything bagel

I got it on the everything bagel, and I might add some more cheese if I want it extra gooey next time, but it's probably the proper amount. The iced coffee was lightly iced and I didn't even have to specify (that's my Dunkin' hack, less ice since they love that bartender trick). It wasn't too sweet and the unique house flavors pose some tough counter decisions; the praline was nutty and caramelly, with just the right amount of cinnamon. There's table service when possible, but it can get busy so keeping your head up helps everyone. Jess and Kiersten keep a cozy and easy-to-do-work vibe inside, as the cafe doubled as my office last week. The sensibly relevant wifi password, easily explained, is also a huge flex these days. Whether you wanna settle in, or just stop by for a quick bite, this spot is versatile, open till 2 and offers one of the best breakfast sandwiches around. Well done!

I tried the hazelnut praline yesterday and it was absolutely delicious. My kids love exploring the games in the back, and there's plenty around to keep them entertained. Highly recommend stopping in--and don't forget to join their rewards program!

Yum!!! Whether…read moreyou're trapped at the hospital next door or just looking for a good coffee, Blackwatch is a great stop. They have a great rotating menu of seasonal drinks and your standard classics. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable of what they have. Rarely in my travels do I encounter such a cute coffee spot that deserves a special shout out, but Blackwatch Cafe is worth a caffeine fix detour when traveling through the Scranton area. The unique vibe hits you as soon as you walk in, as there's decor worth a look in almost every direction. It's a tasteful collection of fixtures, pictures, and figures of all kinds. There is parking nearby the cafe, and the place offers a walk up window should you wish to sit on the patio outside or grab a drink to take for a stroll in the park. I ordered an iced mocha latte (half sweet), and it was prepared to perfection with a smooth taste and just the right amount of sweetness, and no hints of bitterness. It was probably the best iced mocha drink I've had in over a year. Service from the several ladies working there was really friendly. All in all, Blackwatch Cafe was a top notch cafe experience for me, and I'd wholeheartedly recommend others give them a visit when visiting Scranton. It's definitely the kind of coffee shop the world could use more of, offering a quality product, as well as a unique cafe experience. The park offers a wonderful place to stroll as well.

Zummo's is a coffee shop and cafe. I found it on Yelp. I could just tell it would be good. The number 2 way to judge a coffee shop. The coffee is good. My black iced coffee was good, and served quickly even though there were a lot of people there. They also sell beans from multiple roasters. Mostly blends. I was always talk about the shock and awe of a spot's baked goods case. I was shocked and awed. They had gigantic, amazing looking scones. I bought one that I'm saving for my family. I ordered a piece of one of 3 frittatas available. Spinach feta. It was way above average for cafe frittata. Good flavor and texture. They had a number of bagel sandwiches ready to be cooked. Although the front room was full when I walked in, it turns out they have a large back room as well. Lots of seating. Wood floors. They also have cool outside seating. I was impressed by Zummo's, and also the closeness of the Scranton community. Lots of people walking together outside. Gathering over coffee. Saying Hi to people. Scranton is doing something right. 5 Stars
