Entrance path. Lots of poison oak around. Come properly covered. Ensure you cleanup afterward.
Chris R.

A cool old cemetery from the 1800's. A person might think Purissima Cemetery is as much of a ghost town as the town of Purissima California is definitely past the ghost town stage and well into being reclaimed by nature. But looking through the grounds today I found a marker placed in 2001. Reading a bit more it seems that members of former Purissima receive free burials. So perhaps a few more people with find their rest in this beautiful location. , No matter the current status Purissima Cemetery is an interesting almost forgotten part of the California coast. For those people who may have family interred it is a little difficult to find. But not impossible. From PCH turn east onto the north entrance of Verde road. About 1300 feet into the road you will find a set of double wood telephone poles cross from a house on the south side of Verde road. Next to the poles on the right side is a narrow grass path entrance. You'll have to make a big step over the small drainage ditch next to the road in order to reach the path. Be aware much of the cemetery is overgrown with plants of all sorts including some dense poison oak in spots. But with some small effort your journey to Purissima Cemetery can be completed. Once you cross over into the main part of the cemetery you'll find why people wanted to be buried here. The hills. The creek. The ocean view. The trees with their moss and ivy. The light from the evening sun. The sounds of the creek, wind, and ocean waves. All of these combine to make a picturesque location with charm even after years of being overgrown by plants and abused by 60's era hippies / campers. I found it funny that Yelp asked if this place accepts credit cards. A ghost town cemetery that accepts a charge card for entrance? Do they Visa so I can for my eternal rest enjoying their their vistas? I'll have to try it when I'm ready. More poison Oak notes: Most of the grounds have been overgrown with poison oak at one time other another. Anything up to eye-height should be considered as having urushiol residue whether or not you see living or dead plants. I recommend IvyX Pre-Contact Barrier be put on before your visit, then followed up by TechNu cleanser for clean up within two hours after your visit. Don't forget to clean up your car interiors too!

Caring service, very helpful with a family member's natural burial and the families' gathering at the site. Thank you so very much.

Do not choose this cemetery. What a horrible place, you're much better off choosing Holy Cross!…read more Still local family run. Here is why: Cypress Lawn bought and took over Olivet Cemetery...and more, cremation businesses and funeral homes. It's now being run like a large for profit operation. It's like a car lot where some people are working on commission trying to make the most money. You are assigned a young sales person depending on your last name. Gone are the warm, friendly, mature adults. The first young man I spoke with after Cypress Lawn took over told me my mother couldn't be buried with my father, though she was assured of that right when she bought the plot. This is a different story than what the people at Olivet Cemetery told me before the change. My mom died in 2022 and I was just waiting for the house to be sold so I could bury her. Cypress gave me misinformation. They tried to upsell me. They did not follow through on their word (the chairman of the board included), nor on the commitments made to me in writing though I wrote a letter to the entire Board of Directors and the chairman - who finally wrote back and made promises and commitments they did not bother to keep. I've reached out many times and my dear mother, a well-known Dolger Senior center cafe volunteer and a respected public servant still remains unburied despite her right of internment. My father was a decorated war hero. This place is all about the money and as long as you have lots of money to put out to go along with their service model they will fawn over you.. My parents bought a plot at all Olivet cemetery in 1996 before it was bought by Cypress Lawn and new management has implemented new and changed policies. This is such a wrong and deeply upsetting situation for my family and I. I just want to honor my mom's final wishes. I shouldn't have to call multiple times, receive different stories, take the time to write to the entire board of directors and chairman of the board... Be made empty promises by the chairman of the board only to have to carry it further, next step is to find other entities, talk to the Better Business Bureau and whatever governing agency there is over cemeteries. This has been one of the most frustrating experiences of my life... We just want to honor our mother's last wish and for the cemetery to provide the necessary information and schedule to get her placed with her husband as she wanted.

This location is RIGHT ACROSS FROM LUCKY CHANCES CASINO!!…read moreIt's huge, clean and COLD!! Parking sucks just like other cemeteries when it's Ching Ming and getting out is a pain in the A$$! It's one entrance and exit, however, they added new road few years ago that connects to Olivet Cemetery which is next door, but it doesn't help either because during Ching Ming, it's just the WORST TRAFFIC EVER! Restrooms? Forget it! There's a small restroom cabin toward the lower left side (when facing toward the hill). Expect a line, and bring your own tissue wrap. That's why it's minus 1 star. The pro! It's huge, the roads are very smooth to drive thru. Lots of curves and turns but clean ones. They have all around maintenance staff to care for the facility and grounds. They don't have trees around, so no leaves, branches or seedlings, so it's really clean! You get a fabulous clear view looking over Daly City/Colma. They have name location place stones for each section so it's easy to find your loved one and each section have their own row letter. Along the lawn edges, there are faucet heads for ppl to wash their hands. There aren't bugs that crawl on your offerings (BUT BE AWARE OF SEAGULLS!!) We were at the highest hill, definitely worth the price my uncle paid. (As I mentioned above, you get an amazing view) Today's weather was high winds and chance of rain. Luckily, it was only sun and high winds. I didn't dress warm like you're in Chicago, which I regret because I was shivering!! Last week, I got semi sunburn on my t-zone and chest at the other Cypress Lawn & Chinese Cemetery, I came prepared today with sunscreen & scarf. We burned our Joss papers like all Chinese families do, there's no hiding or avoiding the smoke and ashes. But it's all part of the festivities. Another pro! So for those Pokémon Go fanatics, they have pokestop & pokegym!

Losing a parent is incredibly hard, but they handled everything with such a high level of dignity and grace that it truly eased some of the burden for us. Communication: From the very first call, I felt heard and supported. They were incredibly patient with all of my questions and kept me updated every step of the way, which gave me so much peace of mind. The Process: I found their approach to be very modern, transparent, and straightforward. There was never any pressure or "salesy" feeling, just genuine empathy and a focus on what my mother and our family needed. The Memorial: They helped us navigate the details for her memorial with so much respect. Everything was handled professionally, allowing us to focus on honoring her memory rather than worrying about the logistics. I am so grateful to have had their guidance during this time. If you are looking for a team that treats your loved ones with true honor and provides a seamless, compassionate experience, I cannot recommend them highly enough. I also really appreciated the honesty in their business model. I know it could technically be cheaper if they did every single thing in-house, but they intentionally use outside sources for certain steps to ensure everything is handled by specialists. I actually felt like I got more value this way because I knew I was getting the best possible care at every stage. It's also worth noting for other families that they don't have an embalming service; they focus purely on a dignified, natural process which was exactly what we wanted for my mom. I am so grateful to have had their guidance during this time. If you are looking for a team that treats your loved ones with true honor and provides a seamless, compassionate experience, I cannot recommend them highly enough. Thank you, Honor Cremation, for taking such wonderful care of my mom.

Customer service: 5/5 Value: 3.5/5 Execution: 5/5 From a service standpoint, they excellent. The team is available 24 hours via phone and text. For the majority of my work with them, they were extremely responsive, had good pass downs between shifts and team members, and worked to meet all our needs and timelines. They never pressured us into anything or upsold us. They just wanted to support whatever we needed. My family needed an expedited cremation and memorial all within a week of my family member passing and Honor Cremations was able to make that happen and get the paperwork done with the county in that timeframe. Honor's paid casket option was cheaper than other crematories and was a very nice, presentable casket. Honor does not embalm in house but has embalming providers they can work with. The only reason I would hesitate to select Honor again is because other crematories were more cost effective (up to $1000 cheaper for our package selections), but Honor did what they could to reduce costs and provide flexible options and offerings. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to others if service and empathy is a top priority.
