My best friend and I received matching tattoos here a couple of years ago before I was a Yelper!…read more Studio 42 is a unique little tattoo and piercing shop located in Memphis. The artists there are awesome! I've personally only been tattooed by Garrett but everyone else's work looks amazing as well. Everyone was super welcoming and we were in and out with tattoos we loved! Pro tip: the reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is because the parking lot is small, poorly lit, and pretty sketchy after dark. Bring a friend with you if you're skittish!

I love this place and I've had tattoos done by them. My only complaint is that the lines of my…read moretattoo were different widths and a bit wavy, that may be because of the artist, not the parlors fault. Their Friday the Thirteeth deal was so fun and great! Best artist with the cleanest lines. The employees are great, just act causal and relax!! Went in for a small tattoo and was quoted almost $200. I asked why this was the case and they said…read more"It will take about 2 hours and we charge an hourly rate." The piece took just under an hour total and while I'm happy with the tattoo, I was told the same price. I asked if the fact it took half the time changed the price and they said no. I wouldn't have minded paying for two hours worth of service if I received that. I know people who have gotten similar size pieces that were more detailed for the normal $100/hr rate. If you're looking to get a piercing the service is good and fair, I (and several others I know) have had good experiences with their piercers.

I was excited about…read moregetting my belly done , I was nervous and didn't even notice the piercer didnt clean off the area and just marked me with out letting me see nor used any tool to make sure it was center. I'm mostly upset because when I left the ball came off so the next day I had to go back to get it corrected. I explained what happened and he didn't say much and didn't give me a warning to what he was about to do. it hurt of course and I almost grabbed him because it was just unexpected. A sadly $40 was wasted but I'm upset that I dont want to go there anymore. really loved the place from my other piercings but the quilts just wasn't the same .

(reviewing for a friend btw)…read more first lemme just say that the customer service was wonderful and that everyone was very friendly. however .. there was very little information given to my friend after her ear was pierced. not only was she given very few aftercare instructions, but she was also not asked if she was allergic to any kind of metals to ensure that she wouldn't have a bad reaction. she's allergic to stainless steel, and not even a week after she was pierced (with a hoop btw, which isn't the best earring for a fresh piercing) her ear started to get infected. inflammation so bad that her ear looked purple, swollen to double the size of her other ear (which hadn't been pierced), leaking puss. it was bad tbh .. :/ i helped my friend cut the earring out by the clasp with a pair of pliers and a whole lot of girlbossing.

Updating my positive review from the day after getting my tragus, but it became incredibly…read moreinfected. None of my other piercings have ever been infected before. I held off on changing my review to a negative one until hearing a friend tell me that she came in with a design, had the artist make a suggestion that she declined, and then he CONTINUED ON WITH HIS CHANGE SHE DID NOT WANT TO HAVE PERMANENTLY PUT ON HER BODY, saying he would, "rather ask forgiveness than permission," on a permanent piece of art she paid money for. Due to placement, she was unable to look at the tattoo while in progress, but who would feel the need to panic and continually look at a tattoo after agreeing on a stencil in the first place? Don't risk tattoos or piercings here, whether it's for safety purposes or basic decency of being able to consent to what permanent change you're putting on yourself.

Consulted with Vanessa about a cover up. I had an idea in mind, she was super up front about what…read moreshe could do versus what I wanted. We discussed a few different things and she drew up a concept for Yggdrasil (World Tree). I've had other tattoo artist and shop workers comment about how good the cover up is and I was super happy with it. Will 100% go back for another tattoo from her. She is pretty direct, which may not be some people's vibe, but that was something I looked for when I consulted, which lead me to trust her pretty quick.

They also make getting tattooed financially accessible by offering payment plans, which is super helpful! What other tattoo shops do that!? I don't know a single one. I make it a point to always get a tattoo when I come through Memphis from Underground Art. I cannot recommend them enough!
