The script was enjoyable, but I do question ways to improve in ways that promote inclusivity and avoid stereotyping during audience participation. One audience member took it upon herself to perform using African American Vernacular English? And that was really uncomfortable for me to sit through, especially with the lengths she went to overly characterize her role. Distasteful! Other than that, and no fault of the theatre crew, this was a cool experience. Maybe take the proactive route and include some helpful advice to participating audience members.

Not only do they do adult performances, but they run a youth theater program as well. Their dedication to bringing the arts to the Lowcountry is unmatched. With general admission and VIP experience tickets, you can have the complete experience. They offer wine, beer, soft drinks and food to make your night complete. This time they chose an obnoxious drunk guy who used an Arabic slur at the end of his time. To the point one of the cast made a visibly disdainful face. And then he spent the entire hour (right behind me) guffawing at every single thing and repeating jokes over and over to himself aloud. This is a small venue. Bar is cash only. My show was only about 11 bucks, which is more than reasonable, and the only reason I am not outraged or unwilling to try again. They also have even cheaper shows and different themes.

The Charleston Music Hall itself is a beautiful, historic venue--intimate, well-maintained, and known for hosting concerts, comedy shows, and special events. The seating is comfortable, sightlines are good, and acoustics are solid, which definitely worked in favor of the vocal performances. The singers were clearly talented and did a great job vocally--everyone sounded wonderful, and there's no denying the performers can sing. However, we personally felt that the show didn't quite feel like a full "production." It leaned heavily on straightforward singing, with limited storytelling, choreography, or theatrical elements to tie everything together. This may come down to expectations and personal preference. Growing up around Broadway shows in NYC, we're used to more dynamic, story-driven performances with larger production value, and this didn't quite meet that standard for us. While others may enjoy it for the music and holiday spirit--especially in a cozy venue like the Charleston Music Hall--we would probably not attend again, particularly considering the ticket price.

I was amazed at the cast of FOUR and their ability to play over 130 characters and do it so artfully. The play itself was a riot, on many occasion we were laughing out loud. It was a very fast moving play so you had to pay attention but that wasn't difficult. The theater itself is very quaint. During intermission we got lucky and got to watch a young boy, who was there to watch the show, serenade everyone on the piano. We didn't arrive early enough to get drinks before the show but they allow drinks in the theater so we ordered a couple of glasses of wine and enjoyed them during the second half of the show. I had such a good time that I tried convincing my husband to go back later that week and watch the show with me again! I look forward to returning for more shows!

This is the first time I've stepped foot at the Charleston Festival Hall and see it's a venue hall…read morethat serves all sorts of private to public events. Needless to say, I'm so grateful for them to sponsor an exhibition of Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling until September 26th, 2021. It's a good sized space that allows for folks to keep their space while incorporating a personal remote-like audio device to hear and admire each featured fresco in magnificent photos. They have the exhibit Thursday-Sunday from 10-6 and it is wheelchair accessible. They offer drinks for sale as well if you like a little bit of wine with your art. It took me around a hour or so to go through the self-guided audio tour so make sure to leave ample time for enjoying it. It'll be nice to see the real thing in Rome one day with some background insight in mind! Until then, I can't wait to see what other events the Festival Hall will sponsor!
