Went back again for Jailbreak Winter edition! What I love most about Jail Break is the support for local artists. I always love seeing the new artisans, artists, and performers come together and do what they love! The music was great as usual. Garage Cuban Band added a wonderful Cuban flare to the event! They were so good! It made me wish I was eating Cuban food while listening to their mellow vibe. The comedy line ups might have been the most popular event of the night. Before every set there was a line outside the door! Maybe it was because it was freezing outside and people needed warmth, or maybe it was because of hilarious comedians like Jeremy McLellan and Dusty Slay who filled the room with constant laughter. I really enjoyed the self-portrait exhibit. Where anyone could come in, look into a mirror and draw themselves. Although I didn't draw myself, It was really interesting to see how others perceived themselves. Simply becoming designs had some amazing original vintage inspired jewelry! My brother in law was able to buy a unique one of a kind necklace for his girlfriend. The fire pits were such a great idea for such a cold night. Everyone was able to enjoy all of the performances outside while still keeping warm. I always appreciate the Yelp Booth with their fun photo booth and check in swag. One thing I really wish is that they had more food venue options rather than the same ones every time. I know it's a small lot and you can't fit many trucks but it would be cool to have a more options. I also would like to see more places to sit outside. I still really enjoyed this event and will probably be back again! read more

It's not called Jail Break any more officially, but so many of us still refer to it as that! It's the Charleston Arts Festival finale now. Anyway, it's still more of the same great event in an equally awesome location. What a back drop for various forms of art. There are live performances that include dance, music, and comedians throughout the night. They are also occurring in different locations throughout the property. Stages are set-up outside, as well as in some of the private rooms in the jail itself. Live demonstrations take place and you can even join in on some of them. Bring an open mind and heart and you will be surprised at how you are moved by watch you hear and see. The creativity is astounding. This should be on the "don't miss" list! read more

Jail Break is a biannual event that is always a blast! It is also a great opportunity to see, and be a part of, the other culture this city has to offer; the flip side of pink polos, yachts, and paintings of plantation owners. They have live music, dance performances, comedy shows, and artwork from young and emerging artists who have a style you most likely won't find in 99% of local galleries. The old jail is the perfect setting for this event and it fits to have this type of event on the campus of the building arts college. I absolutely loved the blacksmithing demos, the 80s zombie inspired dance performances, and most of all, the music line up was outstanding. read more

Every time I think nothing could make me love Charleston any more, I find out that isn't true. Jail Break was absolutely fantastic. The setting, an old jail, is the coolest venue ever. The music was fantastic and so much fun. There was great art, comedians (which I didn't get a chance to see - next time), food trucks, dancers and of course - The Vogue OFF!!! I can't even begin to explain how much fun the Vogue Off was. What an impressive, fun group of dancers. The only thing I wish they had was mixed drinks instead of just wine or beer. But the event was so amazing, even in the cold, I'd go even if they had nothing to drink. Definitely worth the money. I can't wait for spring. read more

I attended the jailbreak.  Having artist breakout their personal art.  Wonderful art pieces from my artsy friends from the low country.  Music was awesome!  The dance group was great.  I loved how each cell was covered with different art.   Different foods with a twist.  Family friendly.  My children enjoyed the art and the dance crews.  Loved all the organic and natural food options.  Can't wait to go again.  Yelp had a booth.  We took pictures at the yelp background.  Lets party like yelper!  I didn't do a jail tour so I can't tell you any information about the ghost tours of the jail.  To me everyone need a creepy place to visit and a good story teller.  :)) read more

I went there with my girlfriend for a night of music, food and drinks at an amazing venue. I was amazingly surprised by the atmosphere and will be coming back for sure. There was even a Yelp stand there! Great people! read more

JAIL BREAK CHARLESTON! What an awesome event! If you haven't attended a Jail Break event at the The Old Jail then you are missing out. The festival hosts local artists, musicians, comedians, dancers, vendors, and food trucks in an awesome setting. It was an absolute blast and Yelp even had a booth set up! This was the best event I have been to in Charleston in a long time. read more

I loved this! I'd never been, and Yelp was kind enough to hook us up with some free tickets. What a fun event. There was something for everyone, and so much creativity! I love seeing what other people create. I left with BBQ in my belly, a cool secondhand skirt, a tshirt which featured the old bridge with an octopus (which glows in the dark!), and a plan to have Crosby Jack paint a mural on a wall in my house with spray paint. Had such a great time at Jail Break! I was so upset because I wasn't feeling well at all that day. I had already bought my ticket and I was so looking forward to going. So around 8pm, I put my big girl pants on and drove myself downtown to meet up with some friends. I arrived in time to hear a little bit of The Royal Tinfoil and then headed upstairs to check out the last comedian of the night. On my way up, there were dancers doing some cool acrobatic stuff on the top of the stairs. No time to stay and watch, have to get to comedy. So I get to the comedy room and they packed us in like sardines into this teeny tiny room that produced way too much body heat. It truly was hot in there but it was all good because Dusty Slay was really freaking funny. After that, we went down to the grounds and walked around, checked out the food trucks, took some photos at the fun Yelp photo booth, listened to great music and then went back inside the jail to check out some artwork. The couple hours I spent there, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The Old City Jail is the perfect location for this type of festival. It's such a great way to showcase some of Charleston's best artists. I'm so bummed I missed the majority of the event but my friends who spent the whole day there said they had a great time. I can't wait for next years! (Actually written April 2013) read more

Jail break is amazing. To watch it is one thing but to be apart of it is even better. The Dancers at Dancefx brought the whole show to life and ended jail break with a bang. read more
