We wanted a teacher who was a good fit, so asked about trial. It's a PAID trial, but in my opinion very worth while to make sure it's a fit for both instructor and student. My son liked the instructor very much. When I called to enroll, I was told we had to pay an "enrollment fee". However, the offer online was NO enrollment fee and FREE book for summer classes. The owner told me it ONLY applies to families that don't do a trial lesson. Because I had a complimentary trial, I DO have to pay enrollment fee and buy all books. I'm not a fan of bate and switch. I looked back at the offer and it didn't say anything about paid trials disqualifying the offer. How is the trial complementary if we paid full price for it...... Needless to say, we went just down the street for a true free trial and are making pure rock music with a much better music school that has many more instructors, more economical rates and are honest!! I can't in good faith recommend this music school.

My bass was restringed, cleaned, tuned all within a timely manner and they sat through all my questions. I'm lucky to live close by but regardless if I didn't they would still have my business. When I'm ready to purchase a nice new bass this will 100% be the place to get it.

Rochester Pro Music is your typical local music store…read more They have a good number of electric, acoustic and bass guitars from common brands like Fender, Ibanez, Les Paul, etc... As well as a good selection of pedals and amps. As would be expected, they also sell PA equipment, drums and mixers, as well as a pretty hefty selection of used gear. The store also has six (I believe) teaching rooms, and a number of guitar and bass teachers. My former guitar teacher is now working there. As expected, they do repairs on musical equipment. There are a couple of reasons I am giving them four stars instead of five: 1)Their pricing isn't too competitive. 2)The owner does not like "random jamming" on the guitars, because they wear on them a bit. While this is a perfectly valid point, every other music shop I've been to will let anybody borrow a cable and pick and play with their guitars whenever they want. Why? Because they'll buy sooner or later. 3)The brother of one of my neighbors bought a Les Paul guitar there, and brought it in for service on something that was under warranty, and they would not honor the warranty. While I certainly don't know the whole situation, it's still something to consider.

I had a tailpiece strap break on my violin and a cello where the A peg was always slipping. He gave me an estimate of about 50 dollars for both and I called a place in St Paul that quoted a slightly higher price. He had them both fixed within a week, and didn't charge me more when he said the tailpiece itself had cracked and had to repair it too, and he had to shave the peg a bit to shape. He was very knowledgeable about the cello and bows I gave him to look at, including my violin which he recognized as something that sells for $2000-$3000. He says he used to work at Mayo but retired and went to a violin luthier school, and he does it for the love of the craft, not to make a lot of money. He certainly is very deep in knowledge and skills and more than up to the problems I had to fix.
