Pure Eats hands down serves the best burger you can find around Lexington. These are burgers done right: big, juicy patties of locally raised beef - not the dinky, frozen stuff you'll find elsewhere. Don't forget a side of their perfectly crisped fries (regular or sweet potato). Pure Eats also whips up one hell of a milkshake - thick, creamy, and packed with flavor. If you see the black rasberry milkshake on the menu, don't pass it up. If you are dropping in early in the morning (or just looking for a snack), be sure to grab some of their fresh donuts. Though the options vary from day-to-day, everything I've tried so far has been phenomenal, from classic chocolate frosted to the more interesting peanut butter and jelly. They tend to go quickly so be sure to snatch them up when available. The restaurant also has quick service and a great staff. Everyone is extremely outgoing and pleasant to talk to. Really there are only two downsides to Pure Eats. First, the menu has pretty limited options both in terms of items available as well as condiments. I would love to maybe see more of a variety of toppings for the burgers (bacon, grilled onions, maybe gauc, etc.). Second, space is really at a prime. The building they moved into is tiny, so there are only a few tables and a counter to use (although there are a few more tables outside if the weather allows for it). This may not be the smartest choice for a big group to check out. Despite these setbacks, Pure Eats is one of my absolute favorite places in town. This is a place you should avoid. Gave it a second try and still the same results. Slow, orders aren't correct, and just poor quality to be such a small place. They had to kill the cow, get the meat inspected, and make the patties literally before they could start the process of cooking. I went in for a late lunch recently and got a burger, sweet potato fries, and a chocolate shake. The burger (with advocado) was solid, and the sweet potato fries were perfect. My only objection to the shake was that they're so thick that their straws lack the structural integrity to suck them up--the sides of the straw simply caved in. They need bigger straws and, realistically, shakes that are slightly less thick. Service was fast and friendly. I bought a doughnut to eat later, and that was good but not great. The price was just fine, given the local sourcing of meat and other ingredients. I'd have paid more, in fact, given that. I really liked that they supported payment via Square. That was my first time using Square, and it couldn't have been simpler. Next time I'm looking for lunch in Lexington, I'm likely to go to Pure Eats. read more

We stopped by here on the way to see the grave site of Robert E. Lee because of its proximity to Washington and Lee University. I had read the reviews and passed some of them off, but they were 100% correct! The burgers have HUGE potential, but need some SALT! They are cooked perfectly and the bun is great, but the meat is not seasoned at all. I accompanied my burger with a chocolate shake which tasted like half frozen frozen yogurt mix from the frozen yogurt at the Costco food court. Not very unique. Based on what another reviewer wrote, the straws ARE way too small to manage their shakes! The outdoor seating was in full sun at 1pm when we stopped by and they didn't have any umbrellas so it was roasting! read more

Great lunch spot. We had the special Gouda and onions burger and the the "Keydet" which is a hamburger patty, egg and tomato on lettuce rather than bread. Both entrees were great and accompanied by fries and fried mushrooms, also very tasty. We set at the counter (or bar) but we passed on wine or beer opting for water and a coke. It's a cute place, comfy and warm with good staff. As we were preparing to leave our arms were twisted (no struggle on our part) for a couple of their freshly made donuts. Yum. No complaints! What a cute little spot - packed though it was for VMI's graduation weekend. The doughnuts are delicious as is the coffee from Lexington Roasting Company. The special "Celebration Champagne" doughnut was sprinkled with VMI's colors. This morning there was also an apple caramel and chocolate glazed, which came served in a blue plastic basket that reminded me of the baskets fried clams come in up in New England. This is a great spot that supports its neighboring businesses and agriculture, and promotes who they buy from on their menu! That's transparency, and that's all good! read more

Stopped here for lunch on our way back home. Called in about 30 minutes before we would arrive and placed my order. My husband said the burger was very good! As he stated...it tastes homemade. Good choices for toppings also. I had the chicken sandwich but on a gluten free bun. All was quality. The French fries were awesome! Overall- eh. The service was eh- we definitely were interrupting something much more interesting than talking our order. But she was pleasant. A number of items we wanted were not available. Frustrating but possibly not their fault. The burger was good, the chicken sandwich was eh. Not restaurant quality but edible. No sweet tea. The beef fries and regular fries tasted identical. Not much seating and what seemed like a very high bill for what we got. Not much in town was open for dinner on a Monday night. If in the area again, we will keep looking. Not to worry though, the owners of Ren Hen (farm-to-table) opened up this spot that is perfect for a college town and is a great little option for breakfast, lunch or an early dinner. Their bagels come up from Roanoke Bagel Company, NoBull burgers from Charlottesville and the beef from Buffalo Creek just a few miles away in Rockbridge County. The menu is small enough to be written on a chalkboard, so you eating here with something specific in mind. The burgers aren't the kind that are oversized and will sit in your stomach like a brick, so make sure to order a milkshake if you want to really want something filling! Pure Eats proves that you don't need to everything to make it, similarly to the three-option Kline's Frozen Custard (chocolate, vanilla and the flavor of the week) in Staunton, Waynesboro or Harrisonburg. read more

Pretty average place for breakfast but fairly priced. Ended up paying around $8 for bagel breakfast sandwiches with the works (eggs, sausage, cheese, on a bagel of our choice) with has browns and coffees. We're from Nashville so this doesn't seem too outrageous to us. The sandwiches were fine, but the bagels were extremely bready and we ended up throwing away a ton of it. The hashbrowns looked like what you could get at McDonald's, so definitely not fresh, but still delicious. The coffee was good, though they do not serve iced coffee. Got our order wrong and didn't bring the pickle chips we ordered. Seemed to get angry with us that our order was wrong. Then said they didn't charge us for pickle chips and would add it to the bill. Thought they added it to our card. They chased us down when we left and said we needed to come back in and pay for the pickle chips. Pickle chips were $4 and we had left a $6 tip. I ordered my meal from here today and as I was waiting I noticed the cook was preparing my food without gloves. He was touching his face, my food, and rubbing his hands on his shirt as well as a dirty rag. I asked the woman I ordered with if he could make my food with gloves. She came back nicely and told me that the cook said the food was almost done and he refused to remake it. I asked to speak with him and his initial response was that they don't own and gloves and they're "clean people." I asked him to use parchment paper to pick up the food to avoid transferring germs. I think the average rating for this restaurant on Yelp might inadvertently prevent people who would really love this restaurant from visiting. I'm new to the area and have eaten here multiple times this summer, and it is consistently delicious. I understand some people are put off by the cost in the context of "burger joint," but if you come here with the understanding this is a place that serves just a few, high-quality menu items that happen to be burgers, from-scratch doughnuts, and the like, you will probably be pleasantly surprised. Very overpriced for Lexington. We had to wait over an hour for 2 hamburgers and fries and onion rings. They were not that busy. The patties were very small. The meat was at least cooked to our order. However, the food is overpriced and not enough. An average person will leave hungry with a regular burger. It was over $30 for 2 burgers, onion rings, fries and one drink and tip. I did not think the cut of meat was that great either. On top of that, there's few seats so good thing they were not busy. The ordering is also very clumsy; you order right by the door before you sit down and that causes a bottleneck in this small restaurant. The atmosphere is pretty good. They do have a small bar. This small eating establishment is located at the bottom of Main Street in a renovated service station. Having dined here a few times (we're locals), one would think we'd know better to dine here again, when our initial visits were grossly OVERPRICED. I can certainly relate to so many other reviewers posting their dismay over the exorbitant prices. Here's just one: "But they nickel and dime you to death. My $9 specialty burger was smaller than ANY other burger joint. Maybe similar to a Five Guys single, at twice the price and no French fries included." The menu is quite limited as is the space. The service, though not overly friendly (do they smile here?) was efficient. Most recently, our bill was $54. - yes, a WHOPPING $54. for three of us, each ordering only a burger, fries and a soda. Actually, one member of our party opted for a shake, rather than a soda. The sweet-potato fries were ok but the regular fries which are wider and thicker, were laden with oil and heavy. The burgers were ok, and the shake, 'mediocre.' As Lexington residents, we will NOT be visiting this restaurant again, $54 for burgers, fries and a drink for three people is highway robbery. I just checked New York City's Waldorf-Astoria lunch menu prices which parallel Pure Eats'. See anything wrong with this picture? "Fool me once - shame on you; fool me twice - shame on me!" Went for the first time yesterday. Ordered a bacon cheeseburger and sweet potato fries to go. I like that the restaurant uses mostly local ingredients, like the Buffalo Creek beef, which is always good. But I don't think it's enough to convince me to come back. The wait for my food was pretty long, and the prices were really steep. My order came out to over $12 for just the burger and fries. The burger was small, and the bacon overcooked (my dog enjoyed the bacon though). The sweet potato fries were okay, but nothing really special. My overall impression of this place is "ehhhh". The burgers are made from local beef, and taste better than fast food. But fries are not included and cost--I'm not kidding--close to $4...per order. You do not get a huge basket of fries. To feed our family of 4, we always walk out having spent $40 on some slightly better than average burgers and fries.
