I am a big fan of Element 22! I was at home for the summer, bored, and I needed a good workout to…read morechallenge me. Dow Fitness center does have great specialty classes, but only on certain days of the week - and no ballet bar (yet!). I've been wanting to try ballet barre classes for a long time, but the rival ballet studio down the street is hugely expensive. Someone recommended Element to me, and I was very impressed with the experience overall. The classes are reasonably priced, the online scheduling system is easy to use and the instructors are really talented. They also let you try your first week free, in case you are unsure. When you first go, the instructors are very high energy - the workouts are extremely intense, but in a positive way (this is not bootcamp style). You will be very tired but amazed what your body can do by the time you are done. Ballet bar was one of the hardest workouts I have ever done, even with years of tennis, spinning and Pilates under my belt. The idea is very tiny, very slow muscle movements that work under-used muscle areas. The first few reps are easy, until you suddenly feel an intense burn. They will take you through about 15 minutes each of Arms, Abs/Back, Glutes and Legs. It is not for the faint of heart, but don't be scared off by the challenge. It becomes addicting! Pilates was still tough but incorporated enough yoga elements to give your muscles a periodic break. I recommend this for those just starting over the ballet bar. I didn't get to try the yoga, unfortunately. I also wanted to address the stereotypes head on - a lot of people are intimidated by places like this because they think everyone will be too fit, too wealthy and too snooty. You will see the lululemon crowd here to be sure, but I also saw a range of fitness levels, body types, fashion choices and ages. Yoga guys in loose sweaters would do planks next to high school students and seniors. Tanned fitness buffs would chat with new moms and people with muscle injuries. It's very diverse! Personally, I never felt out of place, although I am not very fit. I think it may have something to do with the instructors - they put out a very welcoming vibe to everyone, and do their best to remember everyone by name. Element 22 only has a few downsides. When you first start they will often publicly correct your form, which can be a little embarrassing. You may also not make it through the entire workout. But different instructors have different styles and they have a good variety of personalities and class types to try until you feel comfortable. All of the employees are extremely outgoing and personable, so it's totally okay to pull them aside and ask them anything (like modifications for injuries, which I saw a lot of). I suggest going for the first week, giving it a try and seeing how goes - I think almost everyone will be pleasantly surprised!

I can easily balance my workouts and come 7 days per week and never get bored! The instructors and their training are the best I have found. I can do the peloton bike and stretch after with yin or yin-yang yoga, strengthen and balance with pilates or barre , or have just have a fun day at WERQ with the dance and music! Try a week and you will see !

I signed up for an early morning class, bad idea on my part! lol Pure Barre technique is a total body workout. It's a mixture of yoga, Pilates, weights, bands and dance all in one class. The overall experience was fantastic. Let's just say, I'm still sore and it's been two days. I will most certainly be back.

In fact I'm not even 100% certain I know what barre is. Always been curious about this place, that's located at the corner of 24 mile road and Schoenherr, so the other day I popped in on a whim. I knew going in that they sold Lululemon apparel and other fitness brands. I was in the market for some new leggings for my own yoga practice and for teaching. I walked in and was greeted my 3 very smiley and energetic employees. I told them I came in to check out what kind of apparel they sold. They were very welcoming and began to tell me that their birthday celebration was coming. I was in there on a Tuesday. The employees told me that beginning that Saturday they were offering discounts and deals on all their apparel. I told them great I'll just wait to purchase some thing this weekend then. They weren't put off by the fact that I didn't wanna buy anything right there in then and explain in more detail what kind of discounts they would have. Before I leftI checked out a few items and inquired about what exactly bar barre was. The one employee explained the outline of a typical barre class. I left more knowledgeable than when I first came in. Come Saturday I revisited this location and picked up 2 brand new pairs of yoga pants. One was priced at $98, the other was $90. Now for those of you who know me know that's too rich for my blood. But because it was their birthday bash I scored both pants at 40% off! What a steal it was! I wasn't certain how they would fit so I asked for a changing room and the employee pointed me down the hall to a very roomy changing room/bathroom. Both pairs fit perfectly. Both pair cost me only $112 before tax. One pair was Alo Yoga, the other pair was Beyond Yoga. For those of you who know fitness apparel, know how costly it can be. $112 was a Great deal! Especially considering I live in my work out gear. I won't just wear these for an hour or two a day. I will wear these every day-from the time I get up til the time I go to bed. Money well spend. The employees are super welcoming- even though I don't participate in their classes. I will visit in the future, when I'm in the market to add to my wardrobe. First class is always FREE, for those of you interested in barre.

I was very…read moreskeptical of this place since I've been to some really amazing fitness studios in NYC and Portland. So imagine my surprise when I set up a time for a PiYo (pilates-yoga flow) class here. The space is large and very well maintained and clean. (God, I love clean, I hate when you're in down dog and spy a hair cluster that sweeping missed). Lovely space. Good class selection. Seriously, if this were on the coast, users would probably pay $150+ a month to join. I've been to one class, hope to get in one more, but from one pro to another, Sarah Fechter has a good thing going. Keep it up and keep giving Saginaw a place to get their fit fab on. The only thing preventing me from giving it a full five stars was the reservation system. I found it really odd that FB posts/replies were how spots were reserved. They would probably be better served transitioning to MindBody or MYiClubOnline for class reservations so you don't have to wait for a FB reply to see if you're in or not.
