However, at this St. Louis location, I've been repeatedly told not to wear my shoes to my reformer. Yesterday, I asked a staff member to email me the written policy or rulebook for this location regarding footwear, but I never received it. To be clear, I do not work out in my shoes. I wear grip socks during class. My concern is that if I need to use the restroom in the middle of class, I'm not going to walk through a public restroom in my socks and then get back on the equipment. I also don't think it's reasonable to expect members to walk all the way to the front of the studio just to retrieve their shoes every time they need to use the restroom. I'm a paying member and I don't think it's unreasonable to ask to see the written policy after being repeatedly corrected. If this location has a different footwear policy than my home studio that's completely fine, but it should be communicated clearly and provided when a paying member requests it. As a customer whose membership helps support this business and helps pay the instructors bills, I expect consistency, transparency, and respect. Also, if we're going to focus on safety and studio standards, I'd like to point out that the reformer I used yesterday had a tear that was approximately 1 1/2 inches long in the upholstery. In my opinion, equipment in that condition should be repaired or replaced immediately. It seems inconsistent to be so focused on members walking to their reformers in shoes while damaged equipment remains in use.

Very nice studio. Kind of small but plenty of room to workout. Love the equipment. Well taken care…read moreof and lots of options for different workouts.

The instructors are all fabulous and very encouraging. They are very supportive of a new person trying to do the exercises properly. The 45 and 60 minute classes are over before you know it and you feel great mentally and physically afterwards. You can tailor things to your strengths and weaknesses with different sized weights and alternate positions. There are people of all ages and sizes. I can't recommend it enough.

The next two teachers didn't work as well for me - clearly knew their stuff, but weren't oriented toward beginners and seemed irritated when I would ask questions. I emailed the owner, Melissa, to give her some feedback on this and ask her advice. When I sent that message - friendly, complimentary of much of my experience while critical of the lack of beginner support - I expected a response in kind. Instead, I got some of what seemed like random boilerplate ("we offer group exercise classes" - yes, I know, I've been to three of them!), some defensiveness ("my teachers have worked here for five years!"), and some PR-speak ("Barre3 is as much about community as the workout itself. Our goal is for our clients to leave feeling stronger and more empowered"), but very few answers. I asked which teachers would be best for beginners and was told "all of our teachers have their own teaching style," which doesn't help. Melissa did say she would show me the moves to help set me up for success. I also asked why they didn't have any plus-size clothing in their boutique area up front, and was told that they carry only a limited selection in the store but they have a sign stating they'll special-order other sizes. She even sent me a picture of the sign, which cracked me up - I believed her. I mentioned in my email reply that having any item in the store in a plus size would have helped me feel more included, and the answer was, "We are absolutely inclusive." That's....not how that works. I had no idea when I sent my initial message that I was going to end up being unwilling to go back to this studio! I'd expected a conversation to happen and for me to go back to certain teachers that were best for beginners, perhaps armed with modifications. But Melissa was so defensive and so unwelcoming that I don't feel comfortable returning. Luckily, there are many more barre studios in St. Louis.

It all flows from a caring and welcoming owner in Natalie. I'm a beginner, but all classes are for all levels. Katy's been my instructor from day one, and she's continuously helping us do our personal best that day, offering modifications along the way in a completely judgment-free, fun and supportive way. I've done two classes a week since starting and will likely add one more. I've been looking for a place like this for so long and still can't believe how it checks all the boxes. I stretch in places I never thought I needed to and workout areas that normally do not get moved around that much. All of this is done without "breaking" me. It is a warm and inviting environment as I am NOT in shape but I have been here 5 times and have felt improvement each time I come. They have a deal for new people which is crazy good so it is worth at least giving a try. They are in the same building as "Just Dancing." TLDR: Worth at least trying. A non-judgmental environment. Good teacher. Off of Manchester near old Staples building near 141.
