If you sign up for class, tell them Megan Lamb sent you! ;) So, the process is such that, you can't just show up for your first class. You have to call and schedule an intake/one-on-one sort of thing. Sometimes they are booked out, but I was able to get my one-on-on within a week. Okay, so they're supposed to call you a day before to remind you of your workout and tell you to come a half hour earlier. This didn't happen so I showed up late. They were friendly and accommodating about it. So, when you come in a half hour early, they sit with you and talk to you about your goals. Then you workout with the class who has a main instructor, but you're also with a personal instructor. This instructor focuses on you so that you can learn the techniques and they can answer questions. After the workout, they sit you down to see how you like it and discuss the cost of the membership. I'm not going to lie, it's steep. However they sort of tack on an extra month, plus classes are unlimited, as well as a few other small perks like special classes and free gloves. You either can afford it or you can't, but honestly? If you go to class, it's worth it. They add you to their Facebook group to introduce you to everyone. This is also how they try to maintain a family/community feel. You can either choose to participate or not. I keep up with it because they'll have announcements and reminders, so it's a good group to be a part of. It's also good for accountability reasons. Everyone is super supportive, encouraging and helpful. What I like? The atmosphere is friendly, welcoming and motivating. The workout itself is extremely challenging, but it's for all age groups, shapes and sizes. Every type of person is there and there are always new people. You can tell that there are cliques; obviously there are people who are friends and/or who have been going a while. They try to make it feel like a family. And if you go regularly enough, you start to feel apart of it all. I've never felt left out. The music is fun to workout to. You can tell they put time into making playlists that will motivate you. This is important because music matters. Especially when you hate your life like I do during the warm-up. Classes are an hour long and they kick your butt. This is a lot like a boot camp class, but for me, way more fun. I mean, come on, who doesn't want to punch some bags?! It's a great, stress relieving workout. Since I have started, they have added more classes, especially in the morning. I don't have a problem with the schedule because there's always a class that I am able to attend. This has been the only thing that has gotten me motivated lately. I think anyone could benefit from this type of workout. It's seriously badass and a confidence/self esteem booster. Cons for me? Partner work is my least favorite part of the class because I am ridiculously uncoordinated, however it still can be fun. I mostly just feel bad for my partner for being so terrible. Also, knowing your left from right is hard! Staff are friendly and out-going. Members are nice. Studio is clean, as well as the bathroom facilities. There's a parking lot with plenty of space; it's right next to Kohl's. What are you waiting for? And what do you have to lose?! Go give it a try!

The studio has recently moved over the 222 E Eerie building on the garden level below Vita Physical Therapy. The new space is larger, brighter, and cooler! As far as Therese's instruction, my time with her has changed both my body (dramatically) and my entire way of approaching my relationship with my body. When I went to Therese, I was in a great deal of shoulder pain that is a side effect of working a lot on a computer. I've never had an issue with my shoulders again. AND my pilates practice has completely changed other physical practices improving my yoga practice by leaps and bounds. I've learned so much and gotten so much stronger, I can't recommend pilates or Therese enough.

I liked it enough, but I felt…read morelike the sales pitch at the end of the class was a bit much, especially at the monthly price points they quotes. A week or two later, I bought a class pack. Truly, the 30 class pack is a value compared to the 4 classes a month plan, and it's taken me about 10 months to use most of it, so I felt like the price point was worth it. I wish I would have known that the heart rate monitor was a separate purchase. I had already snuck a couple hundred into the class pack, so at that point, I felt like I had to, especially since renting one was quoted at $10 per class. But truly, the heart rate monitor makes all the difference. I've left it at home, and I know I don't push myself as hard at class, even though I'm very capable of checking a quick pulse. The biofeedback of knowing what heart rate zone you're in really makes this workout what it is. The instructors are good. They're great at motivating you while correcting form to prevent injury. I started with a sore knee and didn't injure it, so I'm grateful. Facility is clean, and there's a great skyline view of the city while you're doing floor work. I don't go here anymore as I've moved. It used to be walking distance from me, so I never worried about parking (which is metered street). Overall, try out the free class and see if it's worth it for you!

My favorites are Xiomary and Alexandra. They bring such positive energy, clear instruction, and thoughtful corrections to every class. It's been about a year since I started working out with personal trainer, Karah, as well as some of…read morethe other classes offered. I've never felt or looked better. I can do things I never could before and it makes me feel proud. Karah is a really skilled trainer and always gives us a well rounded, full body workout that keeps ramping up as our athletic ability does. Each week, when I walk in the door after my work out, my husband asks, "How was work out?" The reply is simple, "It was hard! But GOOD!" I think that just about sums it all up, don't you? I've also taken classes offered by Nick, and every single time I go, he drops some serious knowledge about strength, form, posture, the body, etc. A few months ago, SH moved to a new location (closer to my house! bonus!) and I really like it. It's a big open space with squishy floors and lots of natural light. Every once in a while, SH offers other cool events like guided meditations on nights with full moons and walks by the lake. There are lots of things to try out here and I think every body should check it out. The prices are reasonable and well worth it. Overall, SH is such a positive and welcoming place!

It's just a room with some weird ropes and big medicine balls and strange props? Some girl's going to tell me what to do and it's all circuits or whatever? What is this? What it is is awesome, my friends. One class in and already I'm hooked, and I'm sure I'll be returning with Ellie and the crew week after week on Monday nights. This... THIS... is just what I need to take my regiment to the next level. I mean, sure... I play derby, and I go to the gym and do my requisite half hour of cardio and core work 2-3 times a week, but this is a real challenge. This is how I'm going to TAKE IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL. Plyometrics, weight training, innovative cardio exercises... our class does it all. And it's not all "personal trainer screaming at you to keep going, or judging you for not having 7% body fat," either. It's encouraging and awesome and the vibe is really a good one. I dig. Worth noting is their group exercise classes held on the regular vary from yoga to intense "like the movie 300" workouts, so check their website and see what may appeal to you, and what classes are offered when and how much they run. (Not terribly expensive, and you can pay per class or buy packages.) Yay for Superb Health!
