Four years later, and Milwaukee power yoga is still just as legit. Especially as we move into the…read morecolder months, this place offers a brief almost mini tropical vacation from the brutal midwestern winters. It's a niche exercise facility obviously...you're basically coming there for hot yoga -- the regular class, slow flow, candlelight or beginner - all those are pretty self explanatory. They also do lots of workshops that are fun and generally on the weekends. Their sound system always seems on point- never too loud or too soft. Each teacher has their own style of playlist but I usually love all the music choices here. if you haven't take yoga classes (esp hot yoga classes) you may balk at prices but from going to other places, their prices are some of the most reasonable in the city. And if you're not sure and are new you can try the "10 days for $10" special where you can try out as many classes as you like in 10 daysfor 10$. It's hot in the studio (seems to go anywhere from the 80s to over 100)so bring a mat sized towel (and maybe a small one too)a long with your mat cuz you're probably gonna sweat! Don't have one? bring a beach towel - that works too! or rent or buy one from the studio. You can also rent or buy mats, and they sell other little accessories and water. Props for class are free for use. Only thing to remember is there's no showers-just changing rooms and bathrooms, and parking is pretty much street-only (with a lot of it being metered.) I'd highly recommend walking or biking. Namaste, yelpers! .

Even in the dead of winter, my best friends and I made a commitment to attending hot yoga sessions. When we arrived, we walked into the facility, and there were areas to place our belongings and shoes. The room we did yoga in was large, and had mirrors lining the walls. The classes were packed, so spacing our mats was hard, but we made room. Shows how popular it was! We began with beginner sessions and moved up to harder classes. I had a great time and loved how calm I felt after! We also took classes that were simple flow and stretch. I have not returned since COVID but I did enjoy my time at this facility! The instructors were respectful of my space and gave good tips for modifications.

Hard to believe that East Side Pilates (ESP) has yet to get a review. Two private lessons in, and…read moreI'm a huge fan of the studio. I can usually tell within my first 10 minutes of a first lesson on whether the teacher/student relationship is going to work out. I've been fortunate enough to have been taught by some awesome instructors in most major cities I've traveled to over the past five years. I've also had my share of crappy ones as well. Thus, I'm VERY particular with who I choose as my instructor. Being a future physical therapist who suffers from plenty of joint pain (and multiple operations), one of of my criteria in choosing a studio/instructor is whether I'd feel comfortable enough to send a patient there without the risk of the instructor injuring/killing them. I've definitely found a winner with Dawn at ESP. She's a wonderful instructor who actually listens to her clients. She's great at cueing students on what the particular exercise entails. Despite being classically trained, she's open to mixing things up a bit to keep me challenged and interested. I've taken lessons in the past by the annoying "classical purists/snobs" who refuse to change their routine - constantly name dropping and stating that "Joe" (as in Joe Pilates) did it a certain way and that's the ONLY right way. I guess they would be correct if we were still in the 19th century, but anatomy, orthopedics and biomechanics have evolved since then. Back on topic of Dawn, I have yet to take one of her classes, but plan on doing so soon. I know that she'll be equally as great teaching a group as she does a private lesson. The studio does offer group lessons at an affordable price, at least in comparison to studios in LA or NY. The variety includes reformed, tower, mat, jump board, and barre classes, and I believe classes are taught everyday. Classes run from around $15 to $25, and privates are $60/55 minute session. Packages are available, which can bring the prices down quite a bit. And for all you newbies to the studio, they offer fantastic introductory packages. I purchased an introductory three-pack for $160. In any case, East Side Pilates gets my seal of approval. I'm already looking forward to returning for my next lesson.....a very good sign that I found a winner indeed! Tip (an addendum): If you're a complete newbie or have an orthopedic/neurological condition, I HIGHLY recommend talking to Ann (the owner - who's awesome with coordinating lessons and communicating) and setting up a few privates prior to taking classes. Some of the moves can put your body into compromising positions with certain conditions, so it's better to err on the cautious side!

I…read morereally enjoyed their motivational atmosphere, good music selections, group support with high fives, and awesome instructors to help with either modifications or make sure I was doing the movements correctly. I like how the exercises can be personalized to one's own fitness and intensity levels and we can usually go at our own pace while going through different stations. We sometimes would get paired with someone - I guess so if we had a questions, we could ask them? Sometimes I would lose my partner if my pace was too slow or if I went to another area looking for the right weight to lift for the given exercise, but other than that, everything was fine. The bathrooms were clean, cubbies were available to store our jackets and personal belongings (no locks because no one steals here - I'm not entirely used to this since I am from the hood but I suppose with the membership fees, people have higher income brackets so no one is going to steal petty things. Overall, this gym has a great formula - good app for tracking workouts, help desk with support staff, child care area, motivational walk of fitness testimonials, and positive quotes on the walls of the gym. It is a great gym although the price is on the higher end for me. I will advise gym attendees to be careful with proper form and using the best dumbbell weight for each exercise to avoid injury. My month has ended and I will consider joining this gym in the future. Finally, I always look at the fitness level of the instructor for different programs and classes and the fitness levels amor these instructors are great so I definitely looked to them for inspiration and workout directions.

I had seen some of my friends posting videos of their workouts on their Instagram stories, so I had an idea of what to expect, and it encouraged me to finally try one out. (They do come and take videos during each workout to post online, so if this is something you would not be okay with...don't go.) There are people of all ages and fitness levels, but mostly women and they do have child watch services during your work out. I was also lucky to come during a cheap first month promotion, so I took advantage of that before signing up for an actual membership. The instructors are well trained and they come around and try to help correct technique as much as possible, but the class sizes are fairly large and the workouts are pretty fast paced, so it may not be a great gym for true beginners who do not have an idea of what proper form should be on a variety of exercises. It is an encouraging atmosphere, almost too many high fives if you ask me, but I take the good with the bad. I do enjoy the music, programming, variety of workouts, equipment available, and overall welcoming and motivational vibes.
