My pupusas filled with cheese beans and loroco were very filling and the calabacita platter was the same. I definitely preferred the taste of the pupusas as the calabacita needed a strong sauce for taste so I ended up using the red and green salsas from the pupusas. However, even though I marked for utensils the restaurant did not provide me any. I don't know if that was a glitch in communications between Uber Eats and the restaurant, but it made it a pain to go hunting for plastic silverware at a quiet hotel.

I will still order it again though to give it another try as with other interesting items on the menu.

But, when…read moreyou receive your delivery order over an hour late, food starts to get soggy in the styrofoam containers that the restaurant packs them into. I ordered two entrees. The first selection from the menu, Tacos del Pastor, al pastor tacos, topped with cilantro onions, a side of hot sauce, a lime, and cucumber for each. The tacos shells were homemade, and the al pastor had plenty of flavor. Three tacos come to an order, with two shells supporting each taco, and they're reasonably priced. The second entree, Fajitas Mix, is served with flour or corn tortillas on the side, with a mixture of chicken, beef and shrimp over a generous portion of rice, with a small portion of bean and a soggy mixture of lettuce, a sad attempt at coleslaw instead of what's listed on the menu as pico de gallo. The fajitas are cooked the traditional way, with peppers and onions. The ingredients are quality, with authentic Mexican flavors. A side of hot sauce, which you need to specify the heat, as is the case for tacos, is included. The entree is very reasonably priced. If I was ensured an on-time delivery, and the restaurant made an attempt to offset my inexcusably late first delivery, I'd likely order again. The corn tortillas were said to be gluten-free, from a call I made, prior to ordering, which offers an added bonus to include customers with allergies or insensitivity to gluten.

They were good and filling. My son got the chicken quesadilla with cheese fries. Again it was really good . I didn't know what to get so I told her I was STARVING and let her pick for me. When the Stewed chicken with beans and rice came out. The colors, flavors and amount were great!!! All was washed down with Horchatas and 1 Coke w/real sugar in the glass bottle. The restaurant was practically empty when we went in, and when the waitress came over to take our order, I asked her what she recommended. She told me that any of the pupusas were fantastic, the pechuga de pollo, or the carne asada; however, she told me that I should order la especial de La casa if I wanted to try a little bit of everything, so of course I had to go with that. When I looked at the picture given on the menu, it looked like it came with carne asada, a pupusa, and some vegetables. When I got it tho, it was loaded with almost everything on the menu! I'm not sure if it normally comes like this, but it was outstanding! Both the chicken and steak were cooked perfectly, the rice and beans were delicious, and served along side of a cream sauce, some fresh cheese, and avocado. But that wasn't it! Then another plate having some vegetables, a meat and cheese pupusa, and a tamal came out! I was definitely overwhelmed by the amount of food, but I wasn't complaining!! Everything was so delicious and I didn't leave anything behind! This all cost $16, which is a bargain for the amount of food and the quality of the food as well! I also had to get an horchata because it was recommended to us, and it was so good! It wasn't as thick as it can be sometimes, and went down really easily! I will be dreaming of this platter of food for the next couple of days, and highly highly recommend trying Oloculita out if you're in the area!

Although not very well versed in this specific cuisine, I have fond memories of a Pupuseria in SJ., from another chapter of my life. I called in a takeout with just a little bit of a language barrier, eventually someone came on the line who could help. I ordered 3 different pups and an order of chicken tacos( kind of what I had in mind when I started looking at Yelp) There was very good street parking right in front of the long blue building. On the second try I found the correct door to enter( hint: it's the middle one) The interior was nicer than I anticipated, some granite and mosaic tile accents, and a clean and sleek dining room( yeah, there's a large screen in it too). My order was being bagged up with care as I was still trying to look around. But I can say that this would be a good choice to eat in. I rushed home while being bombarded with smells which were urging me to pullover and have a look/ taste. I did not relent. Once I got everything unpacked I did take 2 phots which did not quite capture the awesomeness that this meal was. Let's start with the tacos: the 3 were rolled up tightly in foil, they were literally steaming hot when unrolled. The meat was spilling from them they were so stuffed. I can't recall getting a larger portion anywhere. The bird had definitely been marinated and then charred on the flattop grill. Tender and juicy, but still seared here and there. The topping was just a little onion and cilantro, but included in the box was Pico, a tomatillo sauce and pickled veggies. All of these were utilized, the Pico was incredible, the tiniest diced tomatoes onions and peppers I've ever seen, the tomatillo was very good too, and a thick version. The pickled veggies took them to the apex of what great tacos can be. The Pupusas were also very good, they have quite a selection and this time I had the plain cheese, zucchini and bacon and cheese. All very good, the squash was my favorite though. Were these better than my SJ memories? Yes. Mainly because of the Curtido( the pickled slaw that comes with them) their version was a finer shred, and had more than just cabbage though I couldn't narrow down exactly what. The vinegar component was perfect, as were the herbs and slivered jalapeño. The red sauce for this dish was very good too. As I write this I'm tempted to return today, either for steak tacos or chicken guisado, or both! But prior plans will not allow. It's pretty safe to say I'm smitten.
