    9 hole course.
    Miguel M.

Puerto gets 5 stars for many reasons but one if them is NOT because it's the best course in town. Often referred to by my friends and I as the ghetto 9. Puerto is devoid of the pretention that accompanies many courses. You wil see ALL types of folk here. If you're worried you won't fit in on the golf course thus place is for you. Simple 9 hole layed out just north of the airport has all the airplane noise one could want. It runs along low cost apartments on holes 6 and 7 and it's possible to see meth heads fighting on any given day. Don't worru they never seem to hop the fence. I especially enjoy the option of banking a ball off a city water tank! Night range during warm months and a friendly helpful staff. Love this place in part for the many memories I've had with friends over the years. (RIP Hardman) Purto del Sol will always be my main course in Albuquerque!

My first 9 holes of golf ever. Probably the best place I could have chosen for a first round since the course wasn't swamped and we didn't have anyone behind us and thus could take our time, track down stray balls and not have a bemused audience watching me slice ball after ball. My father golfs a bit and he was impressed by how well this course is, given that it's public. Also, the price points here are pretty damn reasonable, especially if you come at the right time of day. We arrived just before 1PM on a Saturday and an employeed suggested we wait a few moments to receive a special that essentially cut the price of 9-holes in half. In all, the golf cost around $25 for two. That's pretty damn reasonable. Also, a small bucket of balls is four bucks, medium seven, and large ten, so you can come here any day or night of the week and smack some balls around on the cheap. Finally, I noticed they had some good beers in the fridge, including Marble IPA and Pilsner, so I'll be sure to enjoy some of those next time.

Nice 9-hole course up on a hill so there's usually a good breeze. Friendly and helpful staff.

If you are looking for a long and difficult course, this is a good one. They have some very long…read moreholes, with lot's of traps around the greens. Greens zoom here, and most approach shots are uphill. when we tee'd off at 7am we played 18, and never saw the cart girl. Apparently it was too early. When we teed off at 4pm we saw her on hole 1, and she was done for the day after that. Apparently it was too late.... They also close the restaurant at the turn relatively early. We were unable to restock our beer supply there so we had to finish the round SOBER! and it really hindered our ability to play good golf...or at least it's my excuse! Not sure why ABQ golf courses seem to have a problem getting the beer to their golfers, but i'd imagine they lose out on a boat load of money because they can't serve adequately. if you go in the afternoon you can play for $40. At $40 it's definitely worth it. At $80 IMO it's definitely not! I think there is 2 holes with water which i would like to see on 5 or 6 at least. I know we are in the desert but at $80 a golfer you'd think there'd be some money for another pond or two. They do have a cool range that I like as well, and the marshal/cart manager has been nothing but awesome! very cool guy.

I think so as I was running a PGA of America pro fundraiser and the good players in the field love this course. I would hear many of them saying its difficult and mostly fair (Hole no. 10 appears to be the kick-in-the-butt). Walking out from between the modest LOBO pro-shop and the grille, you stand and see a great vista overlooking a good bit of Albuquerque. All the way across the city basin you see 9-Mile Ridge and just to the left are five extinct volcano peaks. To the rear and over the shoulder are the tailing portions of the Rocky Mountains. I did putt a few on the greens and they were very healthy ... and quick. The course ends the Front 9 with a par-5 and the Back 9 with a par-5. The grille had a very nice menu and they did the taco bar service at the close of play - tasty with lots of New Mexican flare. Should I ever have a chance to return to Albuquerque ... with my golf clubs, this is my stop. Play away, golfers! UNM Championship Course is suuuhweeeet!
