I was quite eager to try Puerta but was highly disappointed with my experience. First off - I loved the look, feel and ambience of the place. No issues there. The guac was absolutely AMAZING and I highly recommend. What ruined the experience for me was the service. There was a bartender (red hair / black and white bandanna) that had the biggest attitude and several patrons noticed it. Her demeanor and overall attitude was quite frankly disgusting. I'm big on great customer service and I will not return based on that alone. read more

On my first visit I can honestly say it will not be my only visit . Me and my husband came without a reservation and our wait was like 35 minutes. If you're looking for drinks and delicious small plates and amazing service with great music I completely recommend this restaurant also to see the actual owner working on a busy Friday night was refreshing to see show his heart is where it need to be. read more

I'm still floating on a Puerta cloud almost 24 hours later. Had a drink at the bar before dinner (reservations are crucial), and our bartender couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. He explained the different tequilas to my husband to make sure he got what he wanted. My coin margarita was so good, I wound up getting two more. Oops. We moved to a table for dinner, and Sarah was our server. Since it was our first time, she told us the best things on the menu and helped us make decisions; I love a server with an opinion (and she was fun, to boot)! We split all these - note that the tacos are fairly small: - Lamb empanadas 10/10 - Pork belly chicharron 8/10 - Al pastor taco 9/10 - Chicken tinga taco 6/10 - Crispy fish taco 7/10 - Churros 8/10 Parking is much easier now that the free parking deck across the street exists, but we were able to snag a space in the back lot. I am from Guatemala and have travelled to Mexico extensively and I know how good real Mexican food can be. That's what I was hoping to find here. Instead what I found was some tacos that were rather bland and not as good as truck tacos. A cochinita Pibil with a very bitter mole. The rice and beans were so bland and flavorless it was funny. My daughter got some empanadas and that was the only good dish. The melted cheese was so watery, it was more a of a soup. In short if this was a cheap Mexican restaurant it would get 3 maybe 4 stars, but as expensive as it is, two stars is a generous rating. read more

I have lost count of how many times I've been here because after my first time here it was my favorite restaurant in Charlotte. I'm gluten free and soy free and I have so many options. I have told all my friends about this place and they soon understand when they come with me. The drinks are excellent, the tacos and every entre I've had is delicious, the queso is heated over a flame to keep it from going cold, but the dessert.... Do not skip the dessert. The churros are an addiction. So are the Cuatros Leches. And they are all gluten free. The monthly special in May is a choco taco. I told the waiter it was the best $10 I have ever spent. I do not have words for this gluten free choco taco. Anyway, I love this place. But please don't make it so popular that I can't get a reservation. read more

This place is amazing! We went Saturday for dinner and there wasn't one bite we took that we didn't enjoy ! We ordered so much lol started with salsa trio , ceviche, and the Jimica salad all sooooo good . For dinner we ordered several Tacos and the snapper ! Omg so good . We even discussed the meal the next day wow ! All of the waitresses and waiters were amazing and full of personality! They were all so knowledgeable on the food and drinks .Only issue I have is the bar not being avail for first come first serve and reservations being booked out so far ahead. Which there is the option to waitlist which was like a 45/hr wait which I get , but the bar option It takes away from the spontaneity of craving something and going for it . Although we didn't have a reservation the GM was able to Comfortably seat us and even sent us things to try and checked on us whenever he wasn't busy running food himself. Great experience here! The food and drinks were wonderful. They complemented each other in a way I haven't experience here in Charlotte. We sat at the bar and had great service from Justin and Eli. The knowledge of the tequila and the quality of the food made for an outstanding date night. Kudos to the manager who came around and greeted every table asking how they were enjoying every experience. He even brought us out extra guacamole bc he didn't like the size we were brought to begin with. Highly suggest this spot. Great experience from being a walk in to our exit. We ate inside and the AC was pumping so hard that we had to utilize the blankets to stay warm. My food was delicious but went cold before I'd even had half a taco. I was shivering. I have eaten here twice, once with a group of four and once with my significant other. I would say this is a restaurant to visit once in a while because of the price tag and small portions. The $8 guacamole is so hard to split between 2 people, let alone four. Each person gets one tortilla and a spoonful of guacamole. With my SO, We ended up spending $100 on a drink each, split guacamole, 1 small empanada each, and 2 small tacos per person. The appetizers were noteworthy. The tacos are just tacos, hard to justify $6 per. I've had better and I've had worse. I would say come here for drinks and a few small bites if you want a nice ambiance or date night. The service is amazing! Very attentive and helpful both visits. Food came out with a good pace, even though tickets were piling up. Drinks came quickly as well. I sat indoors both times and it was nice and lively. The decor is well done. I will say the best thing both times were the lamb empanadas. I would come back just for those. Tacos: nothing to write home about and too small to be priced at $6 taco, it's almost offensive. Entrees: pricey for coming without a side and the short rib was way too salty for my liking (my fiancé liked it enough but couldn't finish it). Basically, we thought this place was really cool but we thought it was another overpriced restaurant for the food quality. My brunch dish was absolutely wonderful. My husband was less than thrilled with his breakfast tacos. I love the vibe here. The music is loud but it is great music and really adds to the ambiance. I love the open feeling of the dining room with the bar that opens out onto a nice patio with another bar. I would not suggest getting cocktails however, since my $15 margarita was in one of the smallest cocktail glasses that I have ever seen!!! Ridiculous!
