I've lived in some cities (and villages) with some NASTY drinking water. Not only did it taste bad, but it was Erin-Brockovich sanitary. Hello, cancer statistics.
In my experience, I've found that Columbus' water is second only to the small village where my dad's family resides and well water is the way to go. Best of all, Columbus water is dirt cheap. My water bill is about the only bill I don't mind paying.
The city sewer is another story altogether. Every time we can vote to improve that, I'm saying 'yea.' I'm tired of walking down the street and smelling whatever is bubbling below. My Obama rally experience was nearly ruined by a nearby sewer grate and the complaints of the foreign woman in front of me. She kept holding her nose and protesting the smell and turning to look at me like I could do something about it. Everyone else was maturely ignoring it.
And the manhole covers, the ones on the corners of sidewalks - those suckers are dangerous. I've seen a handful that were totally detached from the curb. Can you imagine the horrendous possibilities here?! What if someone fell in there?!
Four stars for the drinking water, two stars for the sewer system. read more
