My wife and I attempted to use the Public Storage facility on Big Beaver Rd. in Troy. We created an online reservation and arrived to find water damage on the floor. We attempted to bring this to the attention of management, but there was no one on-site (this is Friday, by the way, in the middle of the morning). We attempted to contact customer service and it took 4 attempts to get a human being on the line. The human being on the line was unbelievably unhelpful. Customer service reps at this company apparently cannot see which additional units are available or whether such units might be damaged. After a 30-minute-long, mind-numbing, bang-your-head-against-the-wall-type phone call, we were given another unit ... which also contained water damage. They apparently could not bring a manager to the site so we were told to come back for a scheduled appointment the next day (which was inconvenient as we had brought out items in a rental van with meter running). Given this hellish experience, and the sad, regret-filled looks on all the other consumers who we saw on-site, I would strongly recommend searching elsewhere for storage needs. By the way - beware, there is also a 'one time administration fee', which is mysterious, never explained, and, of course, non-refundable. read more

Also, despite posted hours until 9 p.m., access is cut off earlier, and I was even warned for being there close to closing. It would be greatly appreciated if corporate would stop giving incorrect information out to their customers so when their tenants come in with questions, the verification process is smooth and seamless, however, this time it was quite difficult. I'm having an incredibly terrible experience right now (8:22am/11-11-25) at the Public Storage facility at 3220 Cooley Lake Road. I cannot gain access to the building. There's a message at the gate stating "Please use Publuc Storage App to enter through Exit door Entry door is broken". Tried their suggestion, and the app doesn't work. After failed attempts to gain access last night, I arrived this morning hoping to see an onsite manager who could let me in. There's currently noone onsite. Maybe they will arrive at 9am. When you pay for service, and then receive substantial unexpected rate hikes, you'd want to pull and have access to your property. Especially since I have to pay the movers regardless. And now, I cant get anyone on the phone to provide assistance. Who do I need to contact to get this rectified. Extremely dissapointed that I chose Public Storage to house my property!​ read more

I rented storage at the end of October and didn't move my stuff yet as I am moving on the December 1st. So I called Public Storage on Big Beaver and spoke to Terri, I confused her because I was confused myself. Then I went in Terri provided the best customer service I could imagine. She was very friendly, kind and personable. She gave me all the info I needed and I felt comfortable. I am giving this place a 1 star for POOR customer service. After moving all day, we were naturally exhausted and the last thing we needed was a rude person greeting us at Public Storage. Her name was Megan. First, she had significant difficulty finding the storage unit that was reserved for us. Before you reserve the space, a staff member takes you to the unit to show it to you and she got lost taking us there. Then when we went back to the office, in the process of signing the contract to rent the unit, she was extremely rude in explaining the various sections of the contract. When asked further questions, she did not know the answer and would just quickly point at the space where she needed my initials. She also did not understand the concept of prorating the space if you did not rent the unit exactly on the first of the month. Some pros: The facility is very nice and clean. It appears well taken care of and very secure. They also have dollys that you can use for free to help with the big stuff. Some things to be aware of: They charge $20 for the lock that you use on your unit. This did not show up in my initial quote that I was given online. Also they have a $1 for the first month special but they charge you $24 for the initiation fee. read more

Bruh public storage is a joke. Customer service is unbelievably bad. I got a text to "check in when the office was open, before 630pm". I arrived at 1pm and waited outside the office because there was a note posted that said "helping other customers, please wait and we'll return" I waited for 20 mins then called the hotline only to find out that "one manager operates 3-4 properties" and the manager was off site for the day. I got a callback from the manager 24 hours after, which is ridiculous considering I was told to move in that day. So this was my first time utilizing a rental facility - so I had no clue. OMG, the woman that helped me out when I came in was perfection - seriously the best customer service I have ever had!!! When I saw her the next day - she had the same warm smile & welcome! The facility is super clean, easy to access, well laid out. It was everything that we needed. They do not reimburse for anything. I wanted to move out on the 6th of the month and they are charging me for the full month! I also had to get their insurance for $15 dollars because they were closed for the holiday and when I went in to tell them I no longer needed their ins. they would not reimburse me for the remainder of the month. We also misplaced both keys and they said it will take 7-10 days to cut the lock. Their prices are Great though, so as long as you have no issues and move out JUST before the 1st of the month-then I would recommend them - but they surely make their money. read more

Initially, was so very happy with the service The unit is big enough to help me keep clutter out of my home. The dollies are very useful. Staff was polite and helpful. There seems to have been a huge change in moral. Staff will talk to you without looking up. They seem to always have an attitude, as you are interrupting their day. Policy changed on the dollies, they started locking them up and I had to walk over icy parking lot., through mounds of snow to get to the front desk. And back.. Mind you, I use a cane. Staff took their time when they only had to come out the office door to unlock the dolly, tired of being asked why the are now locked up? They just replied they alway were. Not true but I it's too cold to deal.with this much attitude. Today the building doors are not working so you cannot get to your unit AT ALL. Called to make sure the doors worked as they did not on the first try was told yes they are fixed to show up to have the attendant just say some one is coming. Wasted lunch hour. I stay because it's convenient. But it should not be stressful. It's a good.plaxe if you don't have to deal with the staff read more

Lots of tiny issues such as gate has been broken/open for several days, bathrooms were locked for over 18 mo since I've been there, prices went up significantly and a lot more expensive than other units I was able to find. Office is closed most of the time. There are only 2 carts available to use, and they're barely ever available. No trash cans anywhere. And finally my auto pay was not working nor did it let me save. So every 4-5th of the month I will receive txt saying I'm late on my payment. read more

This is a horribly run company. Dont ever lose your key, as you will be relentlessly punished. Its been 10 days since i reported losing the keys and i have heard nothing! Basically its only one person who can cut the lock amongst many district! That is unacceptable ! I sent an email on the corp site and have not heard back from it. I also called cust service and they gave me a district managers and it goes only to a voicemail, so i havent been able to talk to her. Alone from all the fees that are not on the website when you get there after you book it. Do yourself a favor and go elswhere. read more

Went to my storage unit today and I was locked out. I've been a customer for 2.5 years and rent has increased 54% above and beyond their initial incentive. Upon reviewing my payment history, I have never missed a payment. Their office hours prohibit me from getting into the storage unit until 9:30 a.m., and they did not even have the courtesy to call me. Further, I cannot get invoice details from their online service and my last payment was over double my rent, and now I'm locked out. Something's fishy at Public Storage. read more

This is my third time renting a storage unit, first time at a Public Storage. If I have the names right, Betty (the blonde who travels to different stores) and Robbin (the regular manager) are so professional and have true customer service skills. Even when an irritable customer late on his payment came in, Robbin handled it well and even made him laugh. Betty was awesome. We were looking for a storage unit at the last minute because our previous reservation with U-haul storage was cancelled due to them overbooking us. So we found Public Storage and they had a great price for the amount of space we needed, cheaper than anything U-haul could provide. The unit was great but the customer service was horrible. The lady that worked there was stressed and full of irritation because she was the only one working there and was not really understanding of our situation until the end of our transaction. She was not helpful with her attitude and real short with me and talking to me like she was my parent. I would not recommend her as an employee, but the unit itself is pretty amazing. They do trick you on the price by not telling you upfront that you HAVE to have insurance on the unit, and if your own homeowners/renter insurance doesn't cover your items in the storage unit, you'll have to pay an additional $15/month through them. It's not terrible, it just should be told to you upfront. All in all, they need better customer service trained employees. read more

Storage unit itself is fine, and a couple of the people who work there are lovely. However, one employee asked me for my phone number once and when you are in an empty building with one other person you feel obligated to say yes for your own safety. A significant amount of time had passed and this person friended me on Facebook, which means that they looked at my information that was on file to get my name. I find both of these things extremely inappropriate and it makes me nervous to actually go to my own storage unit. The worst of all, my rate for many months was $87. Now, I am being charged $103. With no email or notification that my rate was being raised. As a struggling college student who is financially independent - $16/month is a big difference. I called customer service and they said they couldn't help me because I didn't have my driver's license number on me, so now I have to wait until I get off of work to talk to someone about my own unit, account, and money I am giving these people every month. Extremely unprofessional and I am extremely annoyed with this place overall at this moment in time. read more

Bought a very small unit inside a building July 2017. The cost was 63.00 with insurance they make you buy. Less than a year they have increased my monthly rate 3 times without any notice! When I called the representative said the contract signed indicates Public Storage can raise the rates if they want - less than a year I'm paying 75.00 now. I think this is simply theft and fraud. They need to communicate they will raise your monthly rate no matter what you sign up for!!! And you're stuck. read more

Unfortunately I am still here.. Only because I have too much stuff to move and staying for the convenience.. Scott is the coolest Mgr there.. However I would NOT recommend this place to anyone.. They have a sign that says; "We care" well in a nut shell, then don't give a shit.. I have been there for 3 yrs and you would think that by being a loyal customer they would keep the prices the same or not raise it that much.. I went from $156/mo to now $236/mo UNBELIEVABLE... I called corporate in California and asked if they could waive the increase, or give me a break.. In a nice way they said "Go F__K yrself..They didn't care, they said go somewhere else if you cant pay it.. Actually we had a long talk and they just don't give a shit.. I hope I'm out of here soon..
