I moved out of my unit on Nov 30th. They continue to charge me. I received an mail on Dec. 5th saying they would reimburse me. I was charged again. I try to call them, but the automated service makes you lose 30 min of my time without being able to speak to someone who can solve your problem. Now I will need to spend a couple of hours to drive to the location and talk to a human being or escalate the issue via my bank. I strongly recommend you rent from a local storage and not Public Storage which tries to automate everything, but reduces their service to a one star. read more

For the 2 years I have rented my unit at 6832 S State St , & it has been a horrendous experience. As I am writing this, I'm moving my contents to a new storage facility, Cube Storage on 1300 East. I dowloaded the Public Storage app so I would not have to enter manually the access code. It never works. When I bring this fact to the staff on site, she just says use the app. In fact one day, I could not get out of the facility, no matter how many times I entered the access code. I had to wait until someone left so I could follow them out of the facility. Very often, no staff is available on the premises. One day I had to leave my unit unlocked because no one was on the premises to sell me a lock. I found out later that the staff was on an all day conference. No notice for the customers. They provide no maintenance. Both the winters of 2022 & 2023, I could not open my unit because it was frozen. There was no attempt to help me; I was told it was my responsibility to get rid of the ice. Also, they do not maintain the roads to get to your unit. Unless you have a 4 wheel drive, you can slip & slide & crash on the frozen surfaces. No attempt is made to make these surfaces drivable. No salt, etc Most importantly safety is nonexistent. Recently a creepy guy drove up to my unit; he did not have a unit. So how did he get in? He came into my unit & he started trying on different items. When he tried a hat, he demanded that I give him the hat. I told him 'No.' No one else was around. Recently, the exit gate was opened for 5 hours. Anyone could come in. Whenever I call the Public Storage manager, he never returns my call. Recently someone left a broken dresser in front of my unit. I called the facility & they assured me it would removed. So far, it is still blocking my unit. read more

The manager on site, Kendra, has been absolutely fantastic! Their corporate office however, leaves a lot to be desired. We had our unit for 8 years, and got a 9.5% price increase every year. I'd like to say there was poor customer service, but you'd have to have some sort of service. I needed to reach the office multiple times (one being that the gate code didn't work so I couldn't leave the unit. Yes, it worked to get in, but for some reason, didn't work 30 minutes later. I had to wait for another unit to drive out and then follow directly behind them. Have left multiple voicemail messages for other reasons as well, and nothing. They removed our lock and placed one of their own locks without notice (we are current on payments so that isn't a reason) so we can't access our unit because they won't answer the phone and no one is in the physical office. I don't usually leave reviews because a lot of reviews are sour grapes, but I couldn't let this go. The inconveniences they've caused are beyond frustrating. We'll be cancelling our storage unit ASAP, which based on past experience means anything but soon (we have to wait for them to return a phone call so we can get the code to their lock). read more

Not sure why they don't allow 0-star ratings here, but this place deserves it. Rather than go on and on, I will list out the things I did not like. You decide for yourself: 1. Once you get in the gate, you cannot get out of the other gate. What I mean by this is if you enter the gate with 5 separate people using your passcode (helpers/friends/family), if one of them leaves early, the rest of the folks are locked in. It doesn't matter if you use the app, or type in your code manually, you will not be able to leave. This is a flawed system which management believes is fair. 2. The storage unit was dirty and wet, not good for mattresses or couches. 3. Management is clueless and never on site (almost impossible to reach). 4. The storage units have mounds/hills to drive around and pack/unpack things. It is impossible for a large moving truck to maneuver the corners without hitting something. 5. When you leave, your final payment is NOT pro-rated. What this means is if you leave June 3, you will pay for the entire month of June (not fair at all). 6. I rented a unit to keep items after water damage in my home. In 14 months, for the same unit, no changes- the price has gone from $140/mo to $185/mo to $229/mo and now a new increase to $269. Ridiculous! Unless you are looking for a super short time period, keep shopping. They get you with the "move in deal", then say it will be whatever per month after. But then proceed to raise rates 3 times in less than a year. No thank you. read more

Move in the 28th of a month and out the 2nd of the next. 5-days - 2 months rent owed! (exaggerated example of what happened to me, but that is their policy). Evidence of drug deals going on out of units. I was a customer for 2.5 years mainly because their shady practices do not show themselves until they already have you, your belongings are already moved in. No one wants to move around every couple of months, so you put up with a little rent raise not to do it again. But that is not the end of their rent raising. NEVER rent here. I have been storing my items at several different places and companies over the last 10 years. This is the worst location we have ever been to. The doors do not open smoothly and fall off the track, the location is not kept up, and the security gates are always open. The ladies at the front were very nice and we stayed because of their customer service but our final straw was our unit and several other units were broken into and we were never contacted. I know they knew about it because Public storage put their own locks on the door. We had several items stolen and had to file a police report. I contacted the corporate center and the district manager and neither have reached back out to me due to the lack of communication. Short story: NEVER use this company, customer service is terrible, they don't follow through with reservations, and will treat you like dirt while they screw you over. Long story: I originally reserved a storage unit with this company because I was moving away from Camp Pendleton where my husband is stationed, and needed to put all of our belongings into storage until he finished his active service and joined me in our home state. I was planning on making the move by myself with one other family member. Two days before our move, public storage called me and told me that the online reservation I had made weeks ago would not be honored and that they had no unit for me. My options were to down size (a smaller unit would not fit our entire apartment and all the furniture), move to another location further away from where I would be residing and across town, or to pay more for space that I did not need. This was TWO DAYS before I was to move my stuff into this unit. I was IN THE PROCESS of moving when they called to tell me this. The person that called me had a terrible attitude and was very apathetic about the whole thing, offered no help, and had terrible customer service skills. I essentially told her that this call had rocked my whole moving plan, and I had to check out my options. We can't afford to just throw money down on a unit that we didn't need. The company called me back on the day that I was supposed to move in, and basically laid out the same options and asked when I would be coming by. She basically blamed the online reservation system, said I was out of luck and she could do nothing to help me, all while having the worst people skills and a terrible attitude. Apparently people here hate their jobs, because they can't even pretend to be polite on the phone. I explained that there was NO WAY I would still be using this company and that I had found another who was giving me what I needed and had actually followed through on their end. She didn't even apologize for the mistake or misunderstanding or whatever these people are labeling it as. She basically told me there was no way to guarantee I could get anything no matter how far in advance I booked it, and that the reservation meant nothing. Someone should look up what reservation means. At the end of the conversation while I was mid-sentence she interjected and told me she was canceling the reservation and HUNG UP ON ME. I understand I wasn't the easiest person to talk to, I was VERY upset, moving alone without my husband, and this company completely SCREWED me over last minute, but I cannot fathom a world in which someone's customer service is so bad that they hang up on a customer. I will be letting every person I know especially every military family I know who are moving and deploying that they should NEVER use this company. read more

This place is horrible. Their prices went up 20% within the first six months and it should have gone down for a few reasons. First off, their website has been down for months so it's very inconvenient to make a payment. Secondly, they rarely answer their phones and will charge you a $20 payment fee if you choose to pay over the phone. Be prepared for HUGE increases in rental rates after you are settled in. The manager that initially helped me stated he had been there a few years with no increase. He didn't anticipate one any time soon, and if so, it would be small. The rates have gone up twice in a short time, the second one was quite substantial. I got my email invoice with this huge increase, but never a notification of it. When I inquired, they claimed to have sent a postcard a couple of week earlier. When the manager called to follow up and I told her we moved in the day before and I came to pick something up the next morning and it stunk so bad that I emptied our stuff out of the locker. I had to literally scrub everything and wash everything and some things still stink. When the manager called to see how we liked it I told her and she said someone would call me - they DID NOT CALL. For the life of me I cannot understand how this place has 4.3 Stars on Google. We needed a storage unit for a couple of months and decided on this location because it was convenient to us. The first problem was that the company placed their own lock on the unit without informing us that they were going to do that, and we had informed them that we would be moving in the next evening, so when we came to unload our U-Haul we found the unit sealed to us and had to call all the way up to the regional offices to have them contact down the line to have someone come unlock it for us (which would have take quite a long time, but I decided to try all the keys on my keyring and due to some miracle I found one I could jam in and undo the lock, also kind of scary that it didnt take more to open the unit). Second, we had our storage unit broken into (and so did multiple other people at the same time). This is not entirely the fault of the company, but they did not contact me in any way until 4-5 days after the fact even though they knew about it. They claimed to have tried to call (no missed calls, no voicemails left) and they said an email was sent (funny, their bills come through right away, but I never received that critical notice). This is a major problem when time is of the essence to file a police report and insurance claim. Third: They coerce you into buying their "Orange Door" insurance policy, saying that you are required to have insurance and not informing you that most renters and homeowners insurance policies already cover personal property in a storage unit, not to mention the fact that Orange Door insurance is basically just an insurance front for Public Storage, so they get that money too. The fourth problem is that it will be virtually impossible to navigate even a large car at this location in the wintertime because of how steep and side-angled the road paths are in the lot. With any ice it would be extremely dangerous to try to drive in the lot. I would recommend choosing one of the many flat storage lots that are around the area. Lastly, I moved out the 1st day of the month and attempted to have them prorate the last months rent or at very least take a little bit off since I am only using it for 1 day out of the month, or at very very least not charge me for insurance that I have found out that I don't need, but they are completely unable to comply with that request. The process was quick and easy. I loved having the option to reserve and make an appointment online. I liked that we walked in, looked at the unit, signed the lease, and off we went. We didn't think about the risk of this location being just off of state street, and the manager felt we had a very weak lock and kind of spoke to us as if she thought it was stupid to leave such a lock (even temporarily) on our unit. She could have suggested a better lock and left it at that. Having previously rented at Towne Storage, ours was just as exposed and we had no problems with thieves. The units (and surrounding areas) could definitely use a clean up. Dirt and leaves and other stuff are everywhere. Not sure if that is something the renters need to take care of or what. Also, trying to bring a truck in is a joke. The isles are VERY narrow and the property sits on bumpy land. Only cons I experienced there on my first day, but overall I am satisfied. read more

Avoid leasing a unit from this location. Staff doesn't understand the lease agreement and can't articulate the move in/move out requirements. If you become delinquent, the lock will be removed from the unit prior to the end of the grace period, and they won't let you get into the unit even if you have paid (unless you buy another lock from them). During the winter months, some of the units are not accessible due to snow pile up, and the units leak when the snow melts. Rental rates are not uniformly increased by unit size, and again the staff doesn't have a clue why that happens. Not the best location or rates in town, and unless you just enjoy the hassle of dealing with inexperienced staff (and management), I suggest you look for a better place to store your stuff. read more

Roads between buildings are awkwardly sloped, and extremely narrow. It would be almost impossible to take a moving truck down the road by building N, because it felt like a tight squeeze for my mini van, and we also saw a u-haul truck having issues. When we signed up, and we said we would bring our own lock they basically said--it needs to be stronger than the locks we put on empty units and it can't be a combination lock, but it doesn't have to be the kind we sell. Almost all locks say on the packaging when you buy them what type of bolt cutter strength it would take to remove the lock. It would be nice if they could tell you what type of bolt cutter rating they want. I signed up for a unit on saturday, on Sunday I got news that made the storage unit unnecessary. (Their office is closed on Sunday.) I told them Monday within 24 hours I wished to cancel. Jocelyn the girl that sold us the unit, said she'd check with her district manager about a refund and later told us they couldn't refund anything. I had paid $1 for first month, and $24 for processing. Since I picked up my lock after I called and notified them of the change in my attention they put the unit back in their vacant inventory so they could "resell" it. I'm not a lawyer, but it seems like there's a legal obligation to refund at least my $1 for a months rent when they plan to resell the unit. The next day I talked to them again, including alex allen the district manager and told them I'd do a chargeback, and leave negative reviews about my customer service experience, and they said that'd be fine and they'd fight a chargeback. (funny they don't mind a negative review now since they handed us an oversized postcard asking for a 5 star review on their service.) I did the chargeback, and my account has already been credited. They didn't get to keep my $25, and damaged their reputation by not taking care of their customers--poor business choices. Terrible customer service here, and awkward roads so consider using another storage unit. I used southtowne storage just a couple of blocks away 2 years ago, and that was a great transaction so you should look into that instead of this company. I rented this storage site unseen as I was moving from AZ to UT. Had I seen it prior to renting it I would not have. We arrived with a 24' moving truck. I was told prior to renting that would not be a problem. In fact it was a problem. We could not get the truck back to the unit they rented us. Original unit was near the back. Tight turns and alley size streets. There was no way a truck could get back there and even the gal in the office said so. She said the big trucks can't go back there. So why in the heck did they put us back there??? We had to take a larger unit close to the gate because of this and it was an additional $80.00 a month which they would not work with me on. If we had not been so exhausted and already locked into the rental I would have gone else where. I have stayed for as long as I have only because who wants to move again! The roads are very slanted and unkempt. Even in our car we have a problem navigating in there. Water has seeped under the door, this is a seal issue I'm sure. We have had some water damage with the boxes closes to the front. The people are very friendly running the place and I love the online bill pay. However I have been disappointed in the fact that they would not work with me on the added expense to get a different unit due to the fact that we could not get the truck to the unit they had initially rented to us. We didn't need a larger unit. We just had to get a unit that was on the straight road by the exit so we could back in from the street. read more

So I have been using this storage since Nov. of 2015. I have never had a problem with until after I let my daughter put her stuff in the storage. She is a college student and needed to put her stuff in the storage for the summer. The lock that we use is one of their locks. I am finding out that it is not a good lock. After my daughter put her stuff in storage, about 2-3 weeks later my storage was broken into and all of her stuff she had in there was stolen. This public storage is not very secure and there are no cameras on the property at all. For someone to just walk in and unlock the lock and walk away with your stuff proves that the security level is way below average. I would recommend that you get your own lock and make sure it is a secure lock and bolt cutter safe!!!!!!! I cannot even rate this storage facility.
