This place is the worst. Terrible customer service, the unit flooded twice, the first time I was notified probably because the pipe that burst was in my unit but the second time I was never notified and had to find it out the hard way. My stuff was growing mold and was completely destroyed. Thank god I had my own renters insurance because theirs doesn't cover hardly anything. A big joke. There are bugs and a rat problems here. There is a homeless man living in the back in his camper even though I complained to the office they did nothing. I'm guessing they are getting some kind of rent from him because he is definitely not security. I always felt a little nervous going there myself and had the unit for a few years and he never left. I would recommend you go anywhere else but here. Don't let the low introductory price fool you. They have mandatory price increases every year and they are pretty steep. And when it snows you better bring your own snow shovel because as you can see they don't shovel. When I went to the office to ask if they could shovel they said they didn't have one. Real classy. This storage unit has doubled in price since we began renting. They have had multiple pipes burst and every piece of clothing in my unit is covered in mildew. Do not rent from them! We recently went in to check everything after another pipe burst and there were other families there who all said they need to get out of there because they are paying a ton of money for their items to get destroyed. For these prices there should be climate control and there absolutely is not. DO NOT RENT HERE unless it's items that can't be destroyed by temperature/ moisture and you don't mind paying more than every other storage place. read more

Samantha at the Ronkonkoma Location went above and beyond during my tenure at Public Storage. She made it a point to go out of her way to help when she could of very easily had done nothing. This place is a dump. My unit had damage to the door frame that I requested be fixed. Months went by and it never got fixed, my items were easily accessible to anyone who wanted to walk by and pry my door open. The 'property manager' who is never there, and never answers the phone, has a bad attitude and no interest in helping the customer. The 'district manager' ignored my phone calls and did 0 to remedy the situation. On top of that, my items are soaked in mildew and now I'm dealing with the garbage insurance company they recommended, who won't cover anything! The customer service number never connects me to anyone, and when I get someone, they are inexplicably rude and nasty, almost like it's their goal to talk over you and be condescending, or they just flat out hang up or transfer you to another abyss to wait some more. The elevator in the Ronkonkoma building has NEVER been inspected. Code violation there. This place was horrible and I recommend you look ANYWHERE but here to store your items unless you like being treated like garbage, ignored, having your items ruined, and dealing with constant problems. 0 out of 10 read more

I ended up cancelling my reservation 2 days after making it - despite the fact that I was told the pricing would be valid for 1 week. This was apparently a lie, as 2 days after making my reservation - I got an email that my reservation had "updated". The promotions changed, of course raising the price. Making a reservation does not lock in the price - even though the website literally says to reserve and "LOCK IN YOUR RATE". After speaking to the person at this location, as well as a customer service phone number, the original price could still not be honored. I was given the phone number for the district manager, but at that point I was fed up. Both employee I spoke to were nice, but offered nothing to make my situation better. As to why the price changed after two days I got a response of "that's weird" and "I guess we should make our promotions more clear on our website". Expensive and terrible customer service. I rented a unit here for several years, and faced huge price hikes every chance they got. They had me over a barrel because I live out of town and could not easily switch to a more affordable location. I had a lock with 4 keys, and at one time they cut my lock to do maintenance and not only refused to replace the keys, but didn't even bother to call back after several messages were left with the desk staff. I was told a "district manager" could only make the decision of replacing my keys. The manager never called me back. I emptied my unit 5 days after they auto-billed me for a month. When I called, after several attempts to reach a live person, I was told they would not pro-rate a credit so I ended up being charged 3 weeks after moving out. They lost a $400/month customer over replacing $5 in keys for a lock they cut. They are shady. I recommend looking elsewhere. UPDATE: Manager, Aaron called me in response to my review. He seemed genuinely concerned that I was dissatisfied but offered no solution, as there are no partial month rentals- if you move out early in the month you're paying for the whole month. He apologized for them not calling me back about the keys. Updating to 3 stars for at least there was an attempt to reconcile, though no solution was offered. read more

Yesterday after working a full day. I rented a U-Haul trk in the eveing and removed the first load from my home rental to my newly rented storage unit . My apologies I was not aware that we're not allowed to be there past 9:00 p.m. we went over by 37 minutes . The alarms and everything went off like if we where robbing the place I did not have a great experience there . Did not have access to the carts either which is the reason why we finished 37 minutes later past 9:00 p.m. . All I was told upon signing my lease with my unit that they are open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. the office and they close at 9:00 p.m. and if you would like to use a dolly push carts you have to use them on or before 9:00 p.m. but I'll still not have access to them . She did not say we are not allowed and have to exit before 9:00 p.m. . I was not aware of the times as a first time customer there at this location . Overall wasn't that bad . Next time I know we have to be out on or before 9:00 p.m. I was given a courtesy message this morning lovely message to wake up to first thing I read that the facility was giving me one courtesy reminder that we are not allowed to stay past 9:00 p.m. . Overall my experience was rushing on top of it with all the alarms going off I was not happy to be there thank you. At 8:00 p.m. the dolly catrs where locked. Everything was done by hand. read more

Horrible. Did not honor online reservation. Told me they gave my unit away. I told them I was not going to use their storage and cancelled my reservation. 1 week later I received a bill for $25 surcharge. WHY!!!! I never purchased the unit, After 2 weeks of calling Daniel & Christopher and leaving messages with no response, I had to start a better business bureau complaint. I finally received a Call from Manager Daniel(stated he never got my messages) But confirmed his number. He said he will remove the fee due to an error. 2 days later I get a bill for $1.00(Are you kidding?????) He only gave $24 credit. Im so fed up its beyond crazy. Physical aspect of the facility is satisfactory. I have one major issue that really bothers me and that is the fact that I was told I MUST take their 3rd party insurance plan (at additional cost). I reserved my unit online and only found this out when signing the paperwork upon arrival. If I didn't make prior arrangements, I would've chosen another storage provider. The rental agent told me I had no choice - it was a requirement to take the insurance. I seriously doubted this but the agent was adamant. I had my truck full of stuff and signed just to get my stuff into storage. A few days later I called their corporate office and was told the agent was mistaken (as I suspected) and was permitted to cancel the insurance policy. Something tells me the on-site agents get a piece of the insurance. My homeowners insurance covers off-site rental and even if it didn't, I wouldn't elect to take insurance as the items I am keeping there are not high-value (bikes, seasonal toys for my child, misc. items, etc.). I also don't like that I must sign-out the carts, which are locked up near the office. This means I have to park near the storage building entrance, walk across the grounds to pick up a cart, walk it back to the storage building, walk it back to return it and then walk back to my vehicle. This also means that even though I can access the facility after hours, I cannot use a cart after hours because they are locked-up. Sort of defeats the purpose of after-hour access. I've rented at PS some years ago and they didn't pull that insurance BS and the carts were always available for use. I would probably not use them again or at least I would see if other competitive storage companies had the same policies, before using them again. * Update * I picked PS because they had a deal for a really low rate. 4 months into the rental, they increased it nearly 20% per month. The local agent said "that's to cover the cost of your unit". WHAT? What does that even mean? I perceive it as "we got your stuff here and it's really inconvenient for you to move it elsewhere, so since we basically have you over a barrel, we will raise your rate". read more
