As many have noted, Randi and the other staffers are terrific--really nice people who aim to be helpful. We came to rent a very small unit, and ended with a much larger unit for the same price. (It has a non-standard configuration, but still holds much more than the unit we expected.) Prices are lower than many other places in the area. One star off for the other thing that many have noted--that there are only a few carts available, and that you need to find the office staff in order to get a cart. And in our seven visits so far, staff has been out of the office three times. It's important to call ahead to make sure there will be someone to lend you a cart when you arrive. For renters with an interior unit who don't have their own truck and moving cart, a cart is absolutely essential to move anything larger than fits in one's arms. I have to wonder if the staff and the company know how inconvenient it is not to be able to get a cart, either because they're all in use or because staff is out showing a unit or cleaning an area. When you can't get a cart, your trip is wasted. read more

It's not bad except the entire floor my unit is on smells like cat piss and I was taking down some clothes I had wrapped and hanging and rat sh#t came falling out garment. Just moved in today. Despite having today as a scheduled move in and their office hours for this location clearly listed in the app separate from the gate access hours when I arrived during "office hours" the facility was dark, locked and empty. Stumbled blindly through the facility to find my unit and when I did it was tied off with something labelling it as "sealed" with a tamper evident tag. No clue at all if I could or should open it. No staff to answer questions or direct me. The most accessible doors for my unit are literally bolted to the wall to keep people from being able to open them. This place is a disaster and speaks volumes about the lack of quality you get from the company. read more

1 star is not low enough to do justice to this heinous company. My rent increased from $120 - $216 within 6 months of getting a unit. Unable to afford such rapid increases, I cancelled the space in person with a sales associate, who failed to make it final online and I was charged a full months rent despite having vacated the unit. 10/10 do not recommend. read more

DON'T USE! These guys will lurer you in with initial bargains and then they will raise the rent every year! This April they will be "Adjusting (their) pricing..." by jacking up my rent $20.00. It's gone from $38 to $78 in two and a half years! They figure once you've put your stuff there, they've got you. There's a reason they only have at most 3 stars for their locations on Yelp: 1. Everything is automated from customer service, taking your money, accessing your unit. So, they have very little overhead. 2. There is Never any human there to provide answers or assistance. 3. You can rarely find a cart without walking around the entire facility (and even then you may not). 4. Expect a rent increase Every Year, and not just a few dollars! It's ludicrous! I want to be VERY clear with this warning to all. This Public Storage location puts all you care about at GREAT risk. I was a client here for many years. Everything was ok at first. It's not a clean facility and it's often a little frightening to be there as it seems few people are ever around, including management. But I think that's fairly common at storage places. About one year in, while moving a few more possessions into storage, I noticed that someone had used tools to pry the fairly cheap sheet metal used as walls between units. Fortunately they did not get into my unit, but the attempted entry was very obvious. How much time passes between the attempted break-in and when I discovered it? I don't know, but I assume an employee walked past it every day for weeks or perhaps months and did nothing. When I discovered it, they did act quickly to offer another unit. It was on a different floor, ground level, and the far side of the building. So I essentially had to move again. It was a lot of work, but worth it for the peace of mind that it was no longer in a corner unit that could have been compromised the next time no one was around. Fast forward a few years. I've moved to Mexico and on Christmas Eve I received a call from the manager. My unit has water coming out from underneath the door. Can I come and unlock the door? 1. It's Christmas Eve and 2. I'm in Mexico. My friend who lives in Portland and had keys to the unit was flying out that night for a Christmas vacation, but he scrambled to go and take a look. He and the manager determined that there was so much water coming in from the outside walls (and had been coming in for a long time) that everything had to be moved again. I'm trying to look at this damage on a video call from Mexico and my friend should have been packing and heading to the airport. I called numerous companies trying to get movers, but it was Christmas Eve. Desperately I posted on Facebook and two friends joined my other friend to move everything to a third unit and try to begin cleaning up, drying it all out, and salvaging what wasn't beyond damage. How did Public Storage respond? Well they cancelled the contract and wrote a new one for the new unit, which cancelled the monthly auto draft payment. Instead of a call apologizing for the Christmas Eve disaster, I got a call for the late payment CAUSED BY THEM. It wasn't until a few months later that my partner was able to fly from Mexico back to Portland for the sole purpose of checking out the contents of the unit. Needless to say, we lost a lot of our possessions and there's black mold on so many things. The flooding was extensive. I'll try to add some photos here. He did the best he could to sort through some of that and came back to Mexico. Once we moved back to Portland, we immediately retrieved what was left of our possessions. So here's a warning to all. This particular Public Storage location is not safe. If you care about your things, you will find somewhere else to protect your prized possessions. Oh and as a final note, they somehow got my review removed from another major site. So let's hope yelp has more integrity than that one. Rented a storage unit starting in May of 2022. Rent was $188 per month. Increased to $226 in August of 2022 and then May 2023 increased it to $316! I was told it was due to the going rate and increase in the cost to run the property. Insane that in the span of a year the rent increased $128 per month! read more

The Barbur blvd location of public storage must have been designed by AI. The key pad to open the secure door is a good 25 paces away from the door it opens so you are forced to leave your things next to the door and book it once you enter the code, although it's on a slight hill so if you're things are on a cart it will roll away. The single door leading to the units on floor 1 has another door which they don't have an option for propping open also includes a sharp, enclosed, 90 degree corner turn to the hallway for the units. The hallway is lined with doors that lead out to the parking lot (which is also small and poorly designed. Unless you have a backup camera - good luck) but you cannot open or use any of the doors with a more convenient path to the parking lot than the aforementioned 90 degree corner turn hell. Otherwise you'll set off an alarm. This facility was not made with humans who are moving in mind. There is no one ever on the property. On top of this they DOUBLED our rent in the span of 6 months from moving in. Highway robbery. Don't come here if you have any furniture items. read more

The facility itself is fine, if confusing since you can't go in and out of the same gate. Do not ask for or expect assistance of any kind from the on-site staff. They let every call go to voicemail and don't bother to check or return messages. Also, the company lures you in by advertising low initial rates, which they rapidly increase every few months, so that you end up paying the same cost per square foot as a luxury apartment (not exaggerating, I am currently in a 5x10 and paying $150/mo; $3/sqft). My unit at Public Storage at 8437 SW Barbur Blvd, Portland, OR 97219 is 75 s.f. and the monthly rent has been jacked up from $125 in late 2021 to $172 last month. The would make it's cost per sq. ft. more expensive than renting a very big, nice house. They've told me that there is no set rule for how much you'll pay monthly. They might jack you up 10% or maybe 20%. If you're paying on time and they're not having trouble , she told me that they are even more likely to raise your rent even higher. The person at the counter even told me that they can raise your rent as often and as much as they feel like. What can you say about a business where the facility desk jockey tells you that it probably isn't the right thing to do, but they'll do it to you when ever they feel like and by any amount that they choose? I'm looking for another storage facility nearby. I would like to say something nice about the people at Pubic Storage, but it's hard to say something nice about a company that has a policy of screwing it's customers. It's sad, but I recommend that you look somewhere else. read more

Our storage unit, along with several others, was broken into. The management took no responsibility and provided no compensation for what was clearly a failure of their security (we specifically chose an inside unit for additional security. When we closed our account 5 days into the month they provided no prorated return of funds. Management is difficult to get ahold of. This place sucks! While the units are nice and the facility is clean, it seems a bit unorganized and not customer friendly. For starters, the gate never works. Nothing is more frustrating than that. The 2nd thing that sucks is that when you give your 30 day notice they stop automatic payment with no notice and try to hit you with a late fee! I don't think so amigo! The 3rd thing is that it appears nobody is ever working- office always locked and never a note. Last but not least, the power recently went out and the flustered woman working was clearly in no way going to resolve the issue ( I get its not her fault) What was mind blowing is, she literally told us she has no idea when it will be fixed and that her shift ends at 6pm. THEN she just left while leaving all of us in the parking lot waiting- Lol This place is a joke --- Edit- At 7pm tonight a group of other tenants and us were all blocked in and you guessed it....Nobody answered the phone! I started my rental almost 4 years ago it is a 7.5×10 at that time it cost 96.00 then about 2yrs later my rent was increased to 135.00 a month now they are raising it to 172.00 and I am moving out! We hardly go there and have never caused any problems they do not value our business or that our rent was never late not once. I understand a rate increase is standard on most things yearly but they rent this unit for under 100 a month on there website plus a free month. So to me moving out is a no brainer yes a hassel but I do not trust a company that holds no value for there customers my money will be better spent on storage that values my business read more

On Memorial Day weekend I drove from southern AZ to vacate my unit. I was told by the person on duty that I was good til the end of the business day, June 1st. I vacated then (w/o a receipt as the PS computer was "down") with assurance and reassurance that I was paid up in full. Next, I get a demand letter (dated July 9) from a third party collection agency informing me that they'd accept 1/2 my debt to PS! PUBLIC STORAGE never contacted me by phone, USPS or email. I requested the employee on duty send me confirmation, yet none was forthcoming. The amount is so nominal a percentage of customers would pay what they don't owe just to make it go away. Not me. Whether a passive phishing scam, intentional bad practice, or simply incompetence, I don't know nor care. My credit rating is between very good and excellent. It will survive just fine. Other then someone working at the location that my unit is at , having a hard time talking to a live person was my only complaint. Being a smaller location they have different hours so when I would come in I had a hard time actually talking to somebody. Everything thing else was great once I was able to actually speak with someone they were great , very helpful . read more

It was "fine" when we moved in, and the rate was decent, other than as another reviewer pointed out, they nickel & dime you to death (admin fee to move in, insurance fee because they won't take your renter's insurance, buy our lock because yours isn't good enough, etc.). I suspect that is more about the company as a whole than this specific location, though. Other reviewers who pointed out that there is often no-one in the office are correct as well, and I've called on more than one occasion and had it ring and ring and ring with no one answering, and no voice mail picking up. Here's the real issue though. We've had the space just over a year and they've jacked the rate twice (once at the 6th month, and again at the 13th month), for a total increase of 63.8%. Worse still, they violated their own lease both times by not providing 30 days written notice. The only "notice" was the monthly invoice received by email 2 weeks before due date with the new rate showing due, but not even a mention that it was an increase. In my experience in the property management world, that does not actually count as a notice of change of terms to the lease, as required by the lease. We called to tell them that since they had increased the rent twice in such a short time with no notice, we would be moving out. We thought maybe that would be their opportunity to apologize, and maybe mitigate the crazy new rate. Nope. It was clear they couldn't care less. The new place we found has a much better rate, and a much more engaged and proactive staff. Sure, it's a hassle to move, but that's what they're counting on, right? Buh-bye Public Storage! read more

Not really thrilled with my experience at this facility. I booked it for a short month and a half use before a move as it's not easy storing a ton of boxes in a studio apartment. This facility had some of the cheapest rates nearby my location for a 5x5 room. The contactless feature was nice for "move-in" of my boxes. Upon arrival at the gate the issues started to arise for the premium price. First, the gate key box was a MILE away from the truck and on a massive downward incline. Every person had to park and get out partially to open the gate. When I tried to get in the first time there was a massive truck blocking the only way in. Not ideal as this turn immediately off the highway location. So after rerouting myself by a solid hour, I attempted to get in again. Great right? Nope. The elevator requires your entire gate code each time you press a button to operate. What even is that? Has Portland become so much more of a third world country of its own that security has to be that strict? Then to boot there were no dolly carts in use. The fellows for the moving truck that blocked the driveway earlier opted to use the only storage facility dolly carts and leave nothing for other patrons. I tried to call the property manager to see if there was another cart I could rent, no answer. Walked up there with my wife, not a single soul in sight. So we ended up carrying our entire load up without a cart or any kind of assistance. When we opened the "new and cleaned out" unit, there was trash and prescription medication residue and packaging all over the floor. Dust bunnies everywhere. Not thrilled about that at all. So before loading anything into it, we had to sweep the unit out and pick up the trash and gun powder reserves left from the previous occupant. The odor was quite nice... lastly, on move out day the elevators were down aside from one on the far end of the property. After the dolly cart experience it proved to be more convenient to just buy one outright. But with the lovely detour to experience more of the storage yard, it proved to have saved little to no time. Would have been nice to have known that at the gate instead of using the code a million times to get in to find it out of commission. All in all this was my least favorite storage yard experience. Definitely not thrilled I paid what I did regardless of how short term it was. I truly feel bad for the folks that spend long term time here. Definitely not the same as it was when family rented here in the past. read more

Moth infestation moving across units. My property had been stored for about two months when I discovered a moth infestation and dead moths outside my neighbors units. These units are not sealed from above. The district manager denies ever having an infestation here, but someone reported rats last December. Furthermore, he refused to allow a pest control company I called to make an inspection in my unit. All they provided was plastic sheeting and a new unit. When I returned with moth balls, someone had entered the unit to spray. They refused to let me speak to the vendor they used, which would be helpful for my insurance claim, for cleaning, and for prevention. The insurance they provide requires a $100 deductible and will pay $250 for infestation damages...my wool carpet is being steam cleaned to remove larvae eggs, and some cushions had to be tossed, so the insurance is unhelpful. I want to warn anyone renting here to wrap everything in plastic. Infestations do happen and spread easily with unsealed units. If you experience any kind of infestation, you are on your own. read more

I moved out Saturday, August 1st. Turns out that they charge for the entire month of August. The website allows you to schedule any day for move out, but doesn't provide any warning that they don't prorate. Even if they did, it's a pretty crass jerk move. No reason at all they couldn't prorate. And then there is the raising of prices by something like 60% after an initial period. I will certainly look for a different option if I need storage again. It could have been worse - the facility was reasonably clean and convenient, hence two stars instead of one. read more

Came to clear out my unit, didn't have gate code so needed to get it from the manager, however the manager was no where to be found, front office was locked and no sign posted of when they would be back. After waiting 40 minutes she shows up. I get the code, go in, and clear out my unit. Head back to the office to return my lock and end my unit lease and what do you know, manger is gone again... Door locked to the office, no sign saying when she'll be back... Waited a half hour and finally just put my lock through the mail slot and left. If your going to have posted office hours, A. Actually be there during your office hours or B. Leave a sign saying when you'll be back. read more

1.) I misplaced my key. I have to go to the office to fill out form and then wait two weeks for the manager to come up from Salem and drill open my lock. The woman on the phone was helpful and I don't blame her. There should be someone local to handle these situations. 2.) Went twice to have this handled. 2:20 pm and no one in the office. Lunch is supposed to be 1:30-2. Went again at noon, no one in office. 3.) Never a cart or dolly available. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Public Storage. Unfortunately, a horrible experience. The manager is hardly ever, ever in the office. Have had two instances in last year of office vacant for "Hours" (no exaggeration). Illness was used as a post facto excuse on both occasions. Not buying that explanation from notably "amped up" manager. A large pile of leaves collected right at storage entrance last Fall. Never removed and allowed to turn into a slurry of leaf soup that customers were forced to track through over the course of the entire winter. The entire winter! Moved out due to theft, poor security, and poor service. Got nearly twice the space for similar cost and with better security and service just down the road. Highlights: - 1 successful break in resulting in loss, another attempted break in - The security gate was broken and wide open for months. It wasn't dealt with until someone waltzed in and tried prying open locker doors. - The light in front of my unit was burned out for a year with no repairs despite repeated complaints - There is a gap between the front gate and the personnel gate big enough that only morbidly obese people would be prevented from climbing through it. - All the carts are locked up in the office, reportedly due to theft. If you need a cart, better hope someone is in the office to let you use one. - They reportedly do not retain video from all their security cameras, meaning the ones without retained video are virtually useless. - repeated calls to the District Manager were never returned. In short: this place doesn't seem to care about security or their customers. A better more secure facility with better rates was easily located just down the road. read more

They provided a storage unit which was great; however, they only have two dollys for the entire facility and they managed to lose them while there. I had my unit down an elevator and down two hallways. This made moving anything in virtually impossible. When I asked the attendant for help finding an alternative she told me I could call other locations but made no effort to help. read more

This place is probably as good as it can get in terms of storage facilities, based on reviews of other places I've read! I've been storing the entire contents of my apartment here for about 6 months. They have indoor, climate-controlled facilities, which is great for ensuring your things don't get moldy in the damp Portland weather. The office manager is great and incredibly helpful, and the facility is always very clean. A code is required to get in the building after-hours, and at all times to get in and out of the gate, and up and down the elevators. I've been out of the country, so the online payment option has been really convenient. read more
