Another RENT INCREASE

DON'T USE! These guys will lurer you in with initial bargains and then they will raise the rent every year! This April they will be "Adjusting (their) pricing..." by jacking up my rent $20.00. It's gone from $38 to $78 in two and a half years! They figure once you've put your stuff there, they've got you. There's a reason they only have at most 3 stars for their locations on Yelp: 1. Everything is automated from customer service, taking your money, accessing your unit. So, they have very little overhead. 2. There is Never any human there to provide answers or assistance. 3. You can rarely find a cart without walking around the entire facility (and even then you may not). 4. Expect a rent increase Every Year, and not just a few dollars! It's ludicrous! I'll be moving out this April.

I want to be VERY clear with this warning to all. This Public Storage location puts all you care about at GREAT risk. I was a client here for many years. Everything was ok at first. It's not a clean facility and it's often a little frightening to be there as it seems few people are ever around, including management. But I think that's fairly common at storage places. About one year in, while moving a few more possessions into storage, I noticed that someone had used tools to pry the fairly cheap sheet metal used as walls between units. Fortunately they did not get into my unit, but the attempted entry was very obvious. How much time passes between the attempted break-in and when I discovered it? I don't know, but I assume an employee walked past it every day for weeks or perhaps months and did nothing. When I discovered it, they did act quickly to offer another unit. It was on a different floor, ground level, and the far side of the building. So I essentially had to move again. It was a lot of work, but worth it for the peace of mind that it was no longer in a corner unit that could have been compromised the next time no one was around. Fast forward a few years. I've moved to Mexico and on Christmas Eve I received a call from the manager. My unit has water coming out from underneath the door. Can I come and unlock the door? 1. It's Christmas Eve and 2. I'm in Mexico. My friend who lives in Portland and had keys to the unit was flying out that night for a Christmas vacation, but he scrambled to go and take a look. He and the manager determined that there was so much water coming in from the outside walls (and had been coming in for a long time) that everything had to be moved again. I'm trying to look at this damage on a video call from Mexico and my friend should have been packing and heading to the airport. I called numerous companies trying to get movers, but it was Christmas Eve. Desperately I posted on Facebook and two friends joined my other friend to move everything to a third unit and try to begin cleaning up, drying it all out, and salvaging what wasn't beyond damage. How did Public Storage respond? Well they cancelled the contract and wrote a new one for the new unit, which cancelled the monthly auto draft payment. Instead of a call apologizing for the Christmas Eve disaster, I got a call for the late payment CAUSED BY THEM. It wasn't until a few months later that my partner was able to fly from Mexico back to Portland for the sole purpose of checking out the contents of the unit. Needless to say, we lost a lot of our possessions and there's black mold on so many things. The flooding was extensive. I'll try to add some photos here. He did the best he could to sort through some of that and came back to Mexico. Once we moved back to Portland, we immediately retrieved what was left of our possessions. So here's a warning to all. This particular Public Storage location is not safe. If you care about your things, you will find somewhere else to protect your prized possessions. Oh and as a final note, they somehow got my review removed from another major site. So let's hope yelp has more integrity than that one. If this review disappears, I'll be creating a website dedicated to the incident. So it's your choice, Public Storage.

This is what happens when the gate wont open and traps their tenants inside- wish we could give them zero stars

I should have just gotten my friends and a uhaul to move, but i was promised it would take 5hrs. i was billed 5.5hrs. tip top of the money i had left. and they didn't even have time to move everything. why? because their recklessness with my things i didn't want them carrying my computer monitors. they were hired to pack and move stuff across portland. they came at 1:30 when they said only to tell me that they didn't know they needed all the packing stuff. they eventually arrived nearly 2hrs later and towards the END Of the original window i was promised without any 'hey we will be there at this ETA' they said they got stuck behind a train, which is fine i guess? but no update after that until i called and complained, which got me a 5% discount, which is nice i guess? but like everything that happened after were MASSIVE red flags, both for the computer and the 'movers' which felt like contractors they just hired for whatever without properly vetting. i had a small move, 2 rooms. they were the slowest movers and most reckless movers i've ever hired. but i don't really blame them fully for that. supposedly they were working since 8am and just drove up from salem or something. they didn't even eat lunch. is that even legal?! no wonder they came to the door exhausted already and out of it. These 2 guys did the best they could, but honestly with how exhausted I was from helping them (something i SHOULDN'T HAVE HAD TO DO), they were doing a good job, but that doesn't really matter. in the end this guy ruined my 2000 custom built standing desk for music. not sure if i can get it repaired or fixed. he undid it and said he will put it back together. it was pretty easy just a few bolts into the joints between the wooden top and the legs and putting on the keyboard tray. easy stuff for the most part (when you have a drill, i don't own one). this guy didn't even look at where he was drilling or understand how the desk was put together after showing him specific things. he just drilled in the bolts and they hit a part that they're supposed to go into but was put in backwards making it impossible (on purpose) to get the screw in. this guy just kept drilling harder and harder and when i asked him about it he was like yeah it's supposed to sound like that. He either was so exhausted he couldn't think straight or just took on tasks he could have said 'yeah i don't know how to do that, can you do it?' either way now i have a broken desk that's only partially built and put together. i am really glad i moved all of my expensive stuff to my place with a friend last weekend, because they definitely would have broken a lot of very expensive things! I also gave them a mattress cover to put on the mattress, and they struggled doing that. You are movers wtf?! i zipped it up about half way and moved on. Then when we got to my new place they didn't even use it and put the mattress on the pavement to get a better angle or something. like what was the point in bringing it?! They also dropped a bunch of precious memories i had in a bin in a bin, they said they took them out because the outer bin couldn't close (bs). They were holding it open wrapped around their arm and i asked them to close it as it doesn't look secure and he said it would be fine, then immediately drops it with pictures and papers dropping on the ground and getting dirty. Anyway this all just happened. and there's no way I can live in my new place due to the lack of time they afforded to me to actually place things in the right spot. At least my bed is in the right spot. luckily for now i am in a short term rental because my last place had mold and why I am moving. i am highly allergic and being there as long as i did, both to wait for them to show up and how slowly they worked on loading the truck, I am feeling sick again because of it. The estimate was low balled to say the least because these guys move at a snails pace because this company overworks them and treats likely their staff like crap. these are probably more desperate people looking for an easy pay day. one guy was like 'i worked 4 days this month' and the other one worked 6 days in a row. a 12 hr day without a break outside of driving (which isn't a break) isn't really fair or legal? I paid nearly 1k for this move, and you can't afford to give these people a proper break between moves? I'm sure they weren't making nearly enough either. Lastly they pressured me to sign a thing at the end of the receipt that says everything was delivered intact, which i didn't sign. Anyway go with another company, not worth the risk. I didn't have another weekend to do this move as i need to have a livable space and that takes time as well. Anyway the movers were careless, slow, expensive, and ignored instructions.
