Phil at the front desk helped us with everything we needed. He answered all of our questions and we booked a unit that day and began moving into unit as soon as it was finalized. We were advised by him to use the cheaper online prices and managed to save a fortune on the overall cost, plus booking online saved any other paperwork or formalities. Huge timesaver. I have purchased boxes here on more than one occasion. The staff is always friendly and happy to help you choose the correct size. They get you in and out quickly and it's close to home. When I was looking to rent a storage locker last Fall I came here to check out their facility. I ended up choosing another location for several reasons. 1. Their prices were higher than other locations near by. 2. I measured the size locker I was interested in and it measured smaller than advertised. 3. The facility smelled like smoke. When I asked about it, I was assured smoking is not allowed inside the facility. So, either someone broke the rules or someone's stuff was producing third hand smoke. Either way, this was a deal breaker for me. read more

My experience with public storage started off good. The place was clean a bit pricey but suited my needs . I started midway through the first month and they pro rated my bill to reflect the actual days I would use it the first month. I was on auto billing and every 1st day of the month they took the payment using my credit card. I went there and told them I was going to vacate my space because I'm moving they said when the space in empty take the lock off , leave the door open and come into the office and we will close out your account. I did that on the 4th day in August and when I got the final document stating I vacated the space there was no indication they were crediting me for the days of the month I was not using the space . I asked them about pro rating me for the 27 days left in the month I was not using the space they told me they changed the rules last month that you pay for the whole month regardless of how many days you use it. I thought that was unfair and asked to speak to the manager. His name was Matt and I had to speak to him over the phone. He told me the same story. I told him that the contract didn't mention that and if they changed the rules or policies I should have been notified. He was arrogant and said there's nothing he could do. I told him I wasn't paying for a entire month when I was only into the 4 th day, he flippantly said he didn't care and also confirmed the contract didn't say it. I told him I would contact American Express and file a complaint and I did. I'm letting American Express fight for me I was thru talking to an arrogant person who really didn't care. TWO WATER DAMAGE incidents in three months. I rented a 10x10 unit on the second floor. Came in after one month to discover water in my unit from the dripping HVAC duct running over my unit so I moved to another unit down the hall. Two months later I received a call from the property asking me to come and inspect the contents of my unit because a "pipe burst" in the building. 24 hours later I received an email that described the situation as a "sprinkler issue." I don't know which is correct but I do know there was water in units on the entire second floor. There was water in my unit and some of my items were damaged. The purpose of a storage facility is very simple: keep customers stored items secure and dry. Public Storage Mount Sinai failed spectacularly. Stay away! read more

Absolutely would not recommend this place. Public Storage has left a bad taste in my mouth and I will never return and never recommend this business. I rented a unit to store my stuff over the summer and it was a poor experience from the beginning. BOOKING: I booked to see a unit online on their website and was called within a few minutes to schedule an appointment with the property manager. When the property manager called me, I specifically asked "what do I need to have to open a unit today?", to which she replied that I only needed to bring a credit card and ID. Upon showing up I noticed that the property manager was the only one working, which is understandable because this kind of business does not need a lot of staff to operate. After waiting for ~15 minutes after our scheduled appointment I was able to be shown the space, to which I agreed to rent. In the paperwork process the manager automatically added a padlock to the invoice (she did not say anything about it, just automatically added it). I asked if I could use my own lock, and she said that I could, but only if I had it with me when opening the contract. Of course because she told me all I needed were my CC and ID, I did not bring mine, even though I own one. I would have been more okay with the sales tactic, but they charged $19 for their lock!. THE LOCKER: Online I had booked a 5' by 5' locker. After booking I came back the next day with all of my belongings to start moving into the locker. After closer inspection I realized that the locker was NOT a 5x5 locker but was actually a 4x5 locker. Yes - I should have noticed that before booking and yes I should have measured it before booking, that was my mistake, I should not have trusted them. After moving all of my boxes in, THE LOCK DID NOT WORK. It was jammed! THE $20 UPCHARGE THAT WAS FORCED UPON ME DIDN'T EVEN WORK. Since it was 8pm and the office was already closed I had to leave my belongings in an unlocked locker to go and pick up my lock and come back. Never again. read more

Unbelievable do not use this storage location! Forced to make a reservation to check in, had an 11am reservation its now 11:30 no ones here tried calling every possible numbe, no answer to top it off sign says Be back at 10:30 am!!! should have went to Uhaul read more

History

Established in 1972.

The first Public Storage building opened in El Cajon California, but the new business was only supposed to be temporary. Two partners pioneered the concept as a way to use their real estate investment while they waited for the Southern California community to take off and value of their land to grow. They kept building, and people continued to fill their units. Eventually the pair realized that self-storage was here to stay, and they never looked back. Today, there are thousands of neighborhood Public Storage locations to choose from, many right around the corner from you.

But even if you do that, they still charge you and tell you it didn't go through and there is nothing they can do about it because its a 3rd party insurance BUT "Orange Door Insurance" is owned and operated by Public Storage. So... just be aware! Shady practices and zero customer service. We will be renting elsewhere next semester. Also the office is locked and empty during business hours so even if you do go in, you can't and they don't answer the phone, so you have to leave a message and they call you back, every time. the chat function is an easy out for them, they just say that they think they lost you and disconnect.

Contracted delivery window blown by over two weeks, no timeline, no accountability…read more Liberty Moving & Storage (Commack, NY), acting as agent for United Van Lines (Order #U0360-60071-6), loaded our full household shipment on June 30th for a cross-country move from New York to Phoenix. Our binding Bill of Lading contractually guaranteed delivery between July 6th and July 15th. It is now nearly four weeks after pickup and well past the contracted window, and we received only a partial delivery. The remainder, including irreplaceable artwork, our family's heirloom dining table, and multiple televisions, has been sitting in Liberty's own Commack warehouse this entire time with no confirmed delivery date. When we asked why the contracted window was missed, we were told the binding dates were merely "standard transit guidelines." When we asked about compensation for the delay, we were told our shipment didn't qualify for their delay claim program, a claim they could not substantiate with any actual tariff provision when asked directly. Most recently, our written requests for a firm delivery date have gone unanswered entirely. This is not what a binding delivery window on a signed, paid contract is supposed to mean. If you're evaluating Liberty Moving & Storage or United Van Lines for an interstate move, ask hard questions about what happens if your shipment doesn't fit on the first truck, because in our experience, the answer is silence and your belongings sitting in their warehouse indefinitely.

An island of calm professionalism during a very stressful move. I was enlisted into helping to move my daughter to Stoneybrook for grad school about a week ago. After a long hot trip we found that the house she was moving into it was a complete mess and basically uninhabitable. It was clear that getting the property owner to admit there were many problems was going to take quite a while and we could not move anything in. So, our "adventure" took us to the nearest storage facility, which was this Public Storage. I had rented space before at Public Storage and found that this was the easiest-to-rent experience yet. My reservation got processed by Carissa within about 15-20 minutes. I found the facility itself to be very clean (I rented only an outside space). I also greatly appreciated the wide clearance between buildings. The clearances are wider than other Public Storage facilities I have used. Essentially, we were able to buy the time and peace of mind needed to focus on other matters. read more

I just went through a move from Sound Beach to Speonk and am waiting to close on a home back on the north shore in Setauket . I stopped in to get moving supplies and I was severely overwhelmed as moving can really be a pain in the rear. A nice lady by the name of Christina i believe was EXTREMELY helpful and helped me get all the moving supplies in needed. Boxes, bubble wrap and stuff that had completely slipped my mind like slip covers for my furniture. I grew up in a small friendly town in Kansas and it really was a breathe of fresh air to meet someone so friendly and genuinely nice. I am going to need storage once the house is ready to move into and just going off how friendly and helpful she was and how clean and safe the store seemed I will definitely be back to rent. read more

My experiences with public storage have definitely been all over the map in the past, but this last experience reaaaaally takes the cake. In the best way humanly possible. The associate that completely changed my opinion on this place was Steph. Not only did she answer every question I had, but she went above and beyond to help me get in and get out of there as fast as it could be done, understanding I was working with a very small window of time. She was friendly, kind, understanding, and extremely knowledgable about the company and what needed to be done AND why. I highly recommend you do NOT use Public Storage. Prices are high, fees are higher. They do not tell you up front that if you move in the 4th and move out the 1st they are still charging you a full months rent for that 1 day. The office was empty and no one answered 3 out of 4 days I was there (I understand I mean they have 1 guy working there but that doesn't help when the manager hangs up on you and closes your account when you tell him you aren't willing to pay an extra full months rent when you moved out within 2 months. There are better options out there. Stay away read more

Michelle the new manager really turned the facility around. The grounds, bathrooms and overall areas are cleaner, supplied and we'll organized. 5-STAR EXPERIENCE! Michelle the property manager was great! I needed a 10'x10', I reserved it online and arrived a few hours later to sign the rental agreement. I was greeted by Michelle who was friendly and helpful. Michelle showed me the unit which I found to be clean and well lit. We returned to the office where she made the rental process easy and painless. if you are moving I would recommend going in and speaking with Shannon. What a great help recommending the supplies I needed for my move. Everything she said I needed and the way to pack went smooth.
