We used Liberty Moving and Storage as part of our move with United Van Lines from NJ to AR. The problem began when we were given the arrival date for our belongings. We were told that not everything fit onto the truck and that the overflow would be delivered at a later date. We were not given the option to delay the arrival of the majority of our things until everything could fit on the truck. We also were not given an ETA for the remainder of our things (including clothing, furniture, children's toys, bikes, school supplies, etc). I tried calling Liberty Moving and Storage at least 3-4 times a week for about 3.5 weeks before anyone could give me any type of information about when our things would arrive. There was not one single instance that anyone called me back when they said that they would. Every communication was initiated by me. I was told that there was no obligation from the moving company to compensate or reimburse for overflow delays. This is not how the contract is written or reads, but again, no one will return my phone calls. When our overflow items finally did arrive, 26 days after our initial delivery, numerous things were broken. This wasn't just fragile items. The boxes were crushed and torn. A metal chair leg was bent in half and expensive carpentry tools were broken. These were not items that could have been broken easily, but rather things that were clearly dropped, shoved, and mistreated. This move was nearly $11,000, plus the added fees of needing to purchase items that were delayed in delivery, plus the hours of time that I spent trying to understand when my items would be delivered, plus the costs of replacing what they broke. Contracted delivery window blown by over two weeks, no timeline, no accountability. Liberty Moving & Storage (Commack, NY), acting as agent for United Van Lines (Order #U0360-60071-6), loaded our full household shipment on June 30th for a cross-country move from New York to Phoenix. Our binding Bill of Lading contractually guaranteed delivery between July 6th and July 15th. It is now nearly four weeks after pickup and well past the contracted window, and we received only a partial delivery. The remainder, including irreplaceable artwork, our family's heirloom dining table, and multiple televisions, has been sitting in Liberty's own Commack warehouse this entire time with no confirmed delivery date. When we asked why the contracted window was missed, we were told the binding dates were merely "standard transit guidelines." When we asked about compensation for the delay, we were told our shipment didn't qualify for their delay claim program, a claim they could not substantiate with any actual tariff provision when asked directly. Most recently, our written requests for a firm delivery date have gone unanswered entirely. This is not what a binding delivery window on a signed, paid contract is supposed to mean. If you're evaluating Liberty Moving & Storage or United Van Lines for an interstate move, ask hard questions about what happens if your shipment doesn't fit on the first truck, because in our experience, the answer is silence and your belongings sitting in their warehouse indefinitely. read more

I really wanted to leave a good review because there were some people at Liberty who genuinely cared. Carlos was awesome. He worked his ass off, communicated well, and did everything he possibly could to help us. I honestly have nothing bad to say about him. Unfortunately, Liberty completely set him up to fail. We paid around $13,500 for a full-service move from New York to Nashville that included packing and unpacking. On delivery day, Liberty in Nashville was sent Carlos a day early without even telling us, and they sent him by himself. The only person there helping him was his wife, who wasn't even an employee of the company.What should have been a relatively easy unload into our new house with a full crew and a complete unpack turned into a 13 1/2-hour day. My wife and I had to drop everything and spend the entire day carrying boxes, moving furniture, and helping unload just to keep things moving. By the time Carlos and his wife finally left late that night, the house still wasn't completely unpacked. That's not on them--they worked incredibly hard. They were just never given the manpower to do the job we paid for. They had a 13.5+ hour day at our house and had to drive 4 hours to load a move 2x our size in KY the next mornign early. I can only hope they gave him help there. After the move, I spent weeks trying to work things out directly with Liberty. Amy, our move coordinator, was always nice, but almost every conversation ended with, "I need supervisor approval," and nothing ever really moved forward. Andrew, who booked our move, was fantastic during the sales process, but once the problems started, he became completely unresponsive. I gave Liberty every opportunity to make this right before taking the next step. Unfortunately, we couldn't reach a fair resolution, and I ended up having to file a charge dispute with American Express. I was simply asking for a small refund back to compensate and make it right and they couldnt even do that. This review isn't about Carlos. If anything, I feel bad for him because he was put in an impossible position and did the best he could. My issue is with Liberty's management, their planning, and the way they handled everything after the move. When you pay over $13,000 for a full-service move, you shouldn't be spending 13 1/2 hours unloading your own truck and then fighting for weeks afterward just to get the company to take responsibility on a small scale. I realistically should have demanded more than the measly 15% i asked for. I hope they figure it out because they have good people working there. They just need to do a much better job supporting them and standing behind the service they're selling. read more

Liberty handled our packing, moving and furniture storage quickly and efficiently in a highly professional manner- I think you would call it white-glove service. Before calling for estimates we tried packing our own kitchen-ware, small appliances, closets, artwork, etc., but soon gave up and called three companies for an estimate. After one other bidder had come, Mike, the Liberty rep, was so much more professional and knowledgeable in outlining the process and costs and giving references that we immediately signed and canceled the third. On moving day the clean, well-dressed crew was a whirlwind packing the breakables in bubble wrap, cutting up boxes to encase and protect our paintings, bubble wrapping lamps and putting them in heavy cardboard boxes and essentially taking the job out of our slow, inefficient hands and getting a big job done in six hours. They didn't waste time gabbing and moving big heavy furniture was like a well-choreographed dance. Not only were we extremely pleased but they saved us $4,250 in storage charges! I seem to recall Mike saying they are a third-generation company so it's not their first rodeo. Horrible.. They moved me back in September, from NY to La Quinta CA.. Kyle was the mover.. a lot of my "stuff" was broken.. missing.. everything was dumped in various rooms.. I was shocked and deeply disappointed. I had 1000 dollars to tip Kyle and his movers.. I kept that tightly in my hands while the reality how horrible these people were. Liberty helped our family move from Long Island, NY to the Nashville, TN area. Liberty was able to offer our family storage space for our items while we were staging our home for real estate photos to be taken and our open house events. Once we were ready to move Liberty added our storage items to the items that they picked up from our home and delivered them safely to our new home in Tennessee. I also remember that Liberty was able to offer our family used boxes in different sizes as well as wardrobe boxes to help our family pack our belongings. The Liberty movers had a very thorough and efficient way of labeling our belongings in order to account for everything that they had possession of. The only thing we would have liked to have done a little differently was the amount of time that it took for our belongings to make it to Tennessee from New York. It is about a 15 hour drive but due to other moving stops along the way and a stop for the driver in their hometown it took a week and a half for us to receive our belongings. Proceeded to tell me that a quid pro quo stance on giving a refund only if a negative review is taken down is considered the industry standard. When I provided push back that this isn't a way of apologizing and admitting fault, he proceeded to act as if his team did nothing wrong. At the end, he said he will love with a negative review. That's fine. This is not white glove service. This company and its owner has no integrity. Mayflower should stop doing business with this company. I'd advise you not to do business with this group. Updating my review - they took $200 off my charge for a good review, but I had to pay upon delivery, so had to leave a review prior to delivery to get the discount. Most of my stuff is damaged, and a bunch of boxes did not arrive. Liberty was great on the pickup, sucked on the delivery. The workers on delivery were local guys, and I'd be unsurprised if they had no certification or training, and no accountability if something went wrong. Communication got very poor in last 24 hours, even to the point where they kept not calling me back with information about how to pay. Dealing with Liberty was better than Premier Van Lines and Moving and Storage Squad who I originally contracted (and who lied to me that they do not subcontract), but in the end all three companies were awful. I will be filing claims and a lawsuit. --------- 10/27/2021 I got lucky my move was subcontracted to Liberty. I had a horrific experience with the company I contracted with but Liberty's exceptional service saved the day. They were very nice, quick, reliable, and communicated excellently. Please please read my boring account of what happened with this company and do not use them. They have cost me a fortune in money, emotion and time. I've moved from NY to the UK and, due to Covid, I couldn't get back to oversee the move. I feel that Liberty took full advantage of this. Took my money and the guys just went in, threw stuff in boxes and STOLE a brand new iPad with my name engraved on it, a mega boom speaker and designer purses. They did not have enough time to pack and were desperate to not have to do a second day and this was definitely a 2 day job.They also did not have the correct inventory as Steve Eschbacher, my contact, hadn't updated it, though he had updated the cost of course. They were rude to me on the phone and Steve did not pick up the phone to me that day (or since) and I was doing what I could over FaceTime from London. The person that was overseeing for me said it was complete chaos. They left belongings behind and they didn't even get her to sign the release form as they were so desperate to get out of there. Some of what happened. Chandeliers - thrown in boxes and smashed. Incredibly valuable antiques - not wrapped. Chipped and scratched. One just in a hanging clothes box Brand new iPad - Stolen. Megaboom speaker - stolen. Designer handbags - stolen. 4 Venetian mirrors - smashed. Had to tell the movers in London to take one of them away as too damaged to repair and the broken glass on arrival was dangerous for us all. Mirrored table - smashed. Had to tell the movers in London to take it away as too damaged to repair. Dressing table - legs broken off. Had to throw away. They even took the TV remotes even though they didn't bring the TV so I had to post them back to my buyer (idiots) The guys who delivered it this end could not believe the way it had all been packed. They were embarrassed at all the damage. DOLPHIN, the partners this end in the UK. Asked for £550 extra because some items had to come through the window. Delivery guys said this was not an abnormal or difficult delivery and it shouldn't have cost more. I paid the £550 to Dolphins turkish bank account. The money arrived at the Turkish bank but not in their account according to my bank, and they wouldn't release my belongings until I paid again. I spent about 4 hours on the phone to my bank, Nat West who cancelled the transaction. Nicola at Dolphin was rude and patronising and almost accusatory that I hadn't actually sent the money and they wouldn't release my container until they received it. I refused to send it to Turkey again so they gave me a UK account where the money did arrive. I have received most of this money back but not all as I had to pay my bank a cancellation fee and the turkish exchange rate. This whole process has cost me a fortune and been so emotionally draining. The antiques that are damaged were gifts from my parents and grandparents and it's so awful to think that people went in and just didn't care. Photos attached. How I wish I'd never got the name of Liberty and used someone else. When I moved from London to NY there was one wine glass broken. That was it. I feel quite violated. I now have to spend an enormous amount of time and energy claiming on the insurance and I'd only insured $10,000 (which cost me $350) worth and who knows what I'll actually get. Total ball ache. Photos below. Please find someone else. Spend more if you have to as I wish I had. The whole thing cost me over $10,000 and I've lost so much. They are also so disorganised that they have twice asked me for a review even though they know what's going on (so here it is) and they didn't even get my last name correct on the 119 boxes that came. I've read some of the positive reviews and I can't believe that the same company could provide a good service. I also don't recognise names of the people mentioned. Please be careful. Usually, I dread moving. It's always a stressful and nerve-wracking experience. But that was before I had the good fortune to use Liberty Moving. The moving team worked with the utmost professionalism. Not only were they kind, courteous, and respectful, but they also worked very quickly and efficiently. Due to the impending snowstorm, the team barely took a 5 minute break between loading up the truck with my belongings and arriving at my new residence. Once they arrived, they worked non-stop to ensure that all of my belongings were placed in the right rooms. This was no easy feat, since there are two flights of steps from the street level to the front door of my new home. These men were exceptional workers and truly kind and considerate human beings. They greeted my entire family with smiles and never once complained about carrying my belongings -- including a small piano -- up the two flights of stairs to the front door. I am beyond satisfied. Liberty provided a perfect farewell to Long Island for us as we made the move cross country from Melville, NY to Marina Del Rey, CA. We asked our rep Gary for as full service as possible (except unpacking and box removal), and he definitely came through for us. The quote was competitive with our other top contender, which was Mayflower/Molloy. While the Mayflower quote was slightly less expensive, that company wanted us to hire a separate company to crate three items, and that quote came out to around $650. Liberty packed those three items (large TV and two marble tops) in regular boxes, and they arrived without a scratch. Packing team came on Day 1 and packed just about everything over the course of 8 hours or so. Packing was very thorough, and amazingly there was no damage to our shipment. The packing volume was apparently quite a bit over what Gary estimated, but because he provided a binding estimate, there was no additional charge to us. Our driver Carlos came to drop off the trailer on Day 1 as well. There was some finagling required (had to ask neighbor if we could block his driveway temporarily), but we made it work. Load on Day 2 took about 8 hours and went off without incident. The transit time from door to door was 8.5 days which we thought was pretty good because they were held up by a blizzard in NY. We had two drop offs - an apartment and a storage unit, and it seemed to go just fine. One thing we would have done differently is indicate (and mark) exactly which items were going to which destination. Because we didn't do that at the pickup, we had to do it while unpacking at destination 1, and a few things did end up at the wrong place. A little more communication at the front end would have helped alleviate that. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised by the level of service we received. Moving is never easy, even with full service, but given the magnitude of what we asked for, they did a really great job getting our belonging across the country in one piece. We hired Liberty Moving and Storage in January to move us from Hicksville NY to Henderson NV. From start to finish we were very pleased with their professionalism. it was a very stressful time for us, but they we're constantly in contact with us making the move as smooth as possible. They arrived at our old address on time and packed our things with unbelievable care. The driver kept in communication with us as he drove our possessions cross country telling us exactly when he would arrive at our new address. I had heard horror stories about unscrupulous moving companies holding your belongings hostage until you paid more than the agreed upon price, but not Liberty Moving and Storage.
