Unacceptable Billing Practices and Poor Customer Service at Public Storage I have had multiple storage units with Public Storage at the Highland Village and Lewisville locations, but my recent experience has been beyond frustrating and unacceptable. On 1/15/25, I made an online payment of $885.60 using my AmEx. Later, I realized that I had been mistakenly charged for a unit I had vacated more than two months prior at the Lewisville location. Thankfully, the Lewisville staff handled the issue professionally and refunded the incorrect charge of $295.20 without issue. Then, on 2/28/25, I received a text saying my units were at risk of lien, but to disregard the message if payment had already been made--which it had been on 1/15/25. The next day, I received a rude voicemail from Pam at the Highland Village location stating that my lock had been cut, liens had been placed, and my unit was going up for auction! When I contacted Pam to clarify the mistake, she insisted she could not see my payment confirmation but oddly could see the refund of $295.20 from Lewisville. I repeatedly informed her that my payment had been made, but she refused to acknowledge it and demanded a letter from my credit card company as proof--not an email, not an online statement, but a mailed letter! Meanwhile, my unit and belongings were at risk of being auctioned off due to their incompetence. To make matters worse, on 2/1/25, Public Storage refunded my AmEx $590.40--essentially returning the rest of my original payment without explanation. When I logged into my account, I now owed $1,302.20 in storage fees, late fees, and lien charges; I paid this to ensure my items would not be auctioned off! This entire situation is unacceptable. Public Storage's system is clearly flawed, and their customer service at Highland Village is disgraceful. I paid on time, yet I was treated like a criminal customer and forced to jump through hoops to prove a payment I had already made. If you're considering renting with Public Storage, beware of their questionable billing practices and lack of accountability. I DO NOT recommend Public Storage, particularly the Highland Village location and their management. I have been a customer since 2022. I have experienced consistent rate hikes, sometimes twice a year. I was told I needed to have renters insurance through their vendor for $15 a month. I could have been using my homeowners policy this entire time. I am beyond disappointed that I am still waiting for a call back from a manager Tawanna 7/5/2025. She has been left a courteous message every morning with no follow up on her end. Today is 7/8/2025. The lack of care and delay in handling customer service is just wrong. I contacted store 29236 on 6/19/2025 to advise management that I was moving. I arrived on 6/21/22025 spoke directly with manager Pam to advise I was ending my contract and to confirm final details. I understood that I was good to exit. On July 3rd I was notified via text that my rent was overdue. I immediately contacted the customer service number to resolve. Customer Service processed a ticket and the next day i was contacted by Gerard. I was still in possession of the key to my storage unit. I told Gerard that the previous manager Pam told me I keys were mine and I was good once I vacated. I quickly made a visit to the Highland Village location on 7/4/2025. I stopped my plans on a holiday weekend to go directly to the store to resolve this issue. Gerard told me I "Misunderstood". Clearly, I have completed my due diligence by contacting the store, and visiting with the manager in person. Perhaps it was Pam who miscommunicated the steps that need to be completed when terminating a contract at your location. I am still waiting for someone from Public Storage to return my call and resolve this incorrect billing issue. Do not do business with this location. read more

I am very disappointed with my overall experience at the Public Storage in Highland Village. First, Pam is the manager of this location and every encounter I have had with her is a negative experience. My phone calls are never answered. I left a voicemail for her this morning and she made the excuse of telling me there was no voicemail left on her phone. If you voice your concerns to her, then she gives you an attitude and puts the blame on you. She is very unprofessional and her customer service skills have room for improvement. Second, WARNING it is a "corporate policy" for all of the Public Storage facilities to not allow a pro-rate of your rent if you need to move out your belongings early. For example, I moved out all of my belongings on 7/05/25 with my rent being due on 7/01/25, and they STILL made me pay for the full month of July. Both Pam and the district manager, Tewanna, gave me the same excuse - "this is the corporate policy". Well, maybe there needs to be some reform with your corporate policy Public Storage. In addition, my rent for my 10 x 10 storage unit has increased TWICE over the last 2 years. My rent was initially in the $100's range and this year they increased my rent to $232 (rent for storage unit and $15 insurance included). Public Storage is a greedy, money hungry company and I pray I never have to use a storage unit in the future, especially with PUBLIC STORAGE. As you can tell, I am an unsatisfied customer and both Pam and Tewanna did nothing to help satisfy me. DO NOT RECOMMEND! read more

Great storage facility. Felt like my stuff was safe. But i can't handle the price increases anymore. Opened this in 2019 at $56/month. It used to increase $5 or so a year. Last year (2022) it went a full $20 from $76 to $96. This year (2023) it jumped another $18 to $114. For a 5x10 on the 3rd floor. Ridiculous. So time to move out. read more

They will continue to increase your monthly rate and tell you it's due to "current market rate" which is a complete lie. The "current market rate" can be seen online and is lower than what we initially joined for, so instead of lowering our rate to the current "market rate" our rate was increased AGAIN. Additionally we were asked to log on and give them a 5 star review while getting our keys and signing our agreement right then and there. No joke. So don't expect the rate you're quoted to stay the same for long because it will constantly go up. Started off well but have raised prices by 25% after only a few months. I was not enrolled in a special promotion, they just decided to raise the cost. Additionally, this storage facility is not very secure. Every time I've been there, the front sliding door is broken and left open. Additionally, the "access" only door to the facility is frequently left ajar. Too many other locations around to deal with poor security and greedy owners. read more

This makes it VERY INCONVENIENT for people who are trying to move early in the morning or in the evening. Had to make 8 trips with one item each trip which should have only taken one with a cart. Sparkling clean storage unit. Organized so well. This is not my first time to have a storage unit but it's so nice that this one is al inside, secured, and temperature controlled. This is great for your personal stored items as they do not get damp, mildewed, or damaged from the heat/humidity. Not long ago, I was unable to get in the gate on a Sunday and I pushed the button for assistance and figured I would not get a response. A lady responded and helped me not only figure out the entrance code but advised my husband had got a larger unit and told me where to go inside because it's like a maze. I work in customer service. This company is the absolute worst run company I've ever encountered. I'm with a non-profit entity that moved into one of Public Storage's unit for $244/mo. in September of 2021. In December, 3 months later, Public Storage tried to raise their price to $310/month. $800 more per year! I went into their office for an explanation 3 times and the manager was never there. All three times I was told the manager, Sandy, would call me back. The poor customer service agents behind the desks are trained to never give out Sandy's email address OR phone number. Basically they're there to take whatever a disgruntled customer dishes out. I'm surprised they don't quit. Sandy should be ashamed of herself leaving them out to dry like that. Anyway, I never received a phone call. SO, I called their company 800 customer service number and got the phone number to the Regional Manager, Jessica Moore. Again, I left 3 messages with her. Not a word. Do yourself a HUGE favor. Use Yellow Door Storage just a few minutes west of this Highland Village site. Same size unit $90 cheaper a month at $220. AND they are AWESOME to deal with. Wow! What a beautiful new space. Clean, safe and organized. The word Pristine comes to mind. I've had storage nearby and it wasn't even CLOSE to being this nice. This place is nicer than many apts we've seen! Typical amount of ppwk to rent a unit, but online pricing wasn't bad. You must have insurance as per anywhere in DFW and but the online interface should make paying each month a breeze. Overall, I'm happy our goods are safe here. The building seems secure for intermittent weather and should have no vermin. Which Is a frickin BONUS. Staff is super accommodating. I've talked to Cynthia and Brennan and they were both really nice. read more

Rates just went up 38%. This time they blame "corporate increase" not the "supply & demand" excuse used previously like they did Sept 2020 - It was a 32% increase then. If it were indeed supply and demand, we would see increases and decreases as their occupancy rate cycled. Do not use this place for long term storage. They punish their best customers and reward the ones only staying a month or two who subsidize the long term customers. Pub Storage Highland Village raises rates twice a year! Rent never goes down (what does?). But double digits every time? And last year the security was non-existent. Examples - the security gates are broken so they leave them open until they can fix. The code-coded door leading to A/C storage was off its track, broken. It too remained open until it could be fixed. Excuse was, of course, COVID. Oh and you must buy their "Special" locks. Forget about standard Lowes or Home Depot. read more

The tactic at this location is to force you to buy their key hole lock at approx double the price you can buy them online. Even though I had a very good padlock, they insisted that a key hole lock was required at this location. When renting a space, a lock is on the floor in the space & they would not give me a refund until I did have a key hole lock. (the rental agreement does not require a key hole lock). read more

Wish I could give this place 0 stars! At first I was really impressed with how clean the storage facility was. However, they had multiple issues setting us up to move in and it took well over an hour because they couldn't get the code set up correctly. Fast forward a couple of months and now apparently we are being asked to move out items into another storage unit because they apparently are doing construction. It seems really irresponsible and disorganized they would let us move all of our furniture in then 60 days later tell us we have to move it all over again. Who wants to move furniture ever, much less move it TWICE because of their failure to plan? Also, I just had a baby and they forced me to get my 1 week old out because I had to come in and fill out all new paperwork on top of being asked to move units. Now, they offer to move the items to the new unit, but there's a catch--they want me to sign a waiver saying if they destroy my property that they are not liable!! How is that fair? It's not. This place is poorly managed and does not care about the inconvenience they cause. read more

Bait and Switch! They lure you with low price and 1st month incentive. The price offered in office is higher than on-line (employee suggested I book on line to get best deal). Then you find out you have to buy a useless lock that only fits their locks. When within a year they hit you with a 71% increase! Then another 50% increase a few months later - all within a year and a half. Rewarding good customers? - Hardly! I guess they figure as tough as it is to get all your stuff moved in (you need to enter security code to drive in...to drive out...to get in door [Arms full or not]...to make the elevator work), you won't want to move out anytime soon. The redundant security codes I guess could be viewed as safety conscious, but when their power went out earlier this year, they offered no credit. Even told us to use our cellphones for lights in the pitch black stairwells (elevators were down for days). read more

Four months into my rental they raised my monthly rent $70 per month. I can either pay up or pay movers hundreds of dollars to move me out. They know you're stuck so they stick it to you. Never again will I use a big chain storage place. They were already overpriced to begin with. read more

I was the very first customer that moved into this location when they first opened. They run a special that your first month's rent is free, but it's not free. Within months of moving in the rent increased the amount of what the free rent was. Fast forward 6 months down the road from the first move in date, rent increased again, then another 4 months down the road rent increased again. From that point every 4-6 months the rent increased. More than 2 years later they STILL are increasing the rent and this time it increased by $60 p/month. I called from the first rental increase and each time since and never received a response/return call/email, etc.. Over 2 years later I finally receive a call from the area director. At this juncture I had already filed my move-out after being a longterm customer of theirs. Her response was she was out of town, I guess for 2 years! In addition to all the rent increases, lack of communication/customer care, most of the time one of the 2 main gates for entry is broken or power is down. Being on the 2nd floor and no power makes it a little difficult to justify the continual raise in rent. I went into the main office yesterday and spoke with a few of the employees who told me that they could not believe I could not get a call back after all this time and they had been there when I first moved in and saw all the calls I made/requests put in without a response from anyone. They also told me that not only was I paying more and my rent increasing so much for no reason, but that there were other customers paying much less for larger units who were there longer. While moving out of a unit is a pain, it's more about the priciple here and the location is just not suited for customer care/storage or anything. read more
