Poorly maintained and the trails are dangerous because of it. We are sorry we stopped. What a waste of money!

The grounds are spectacular with so many varieties of flowers and flowering plants. The waterways and waterfalls have a calming effect splashing over rocks and between ferns. At $35 for adults, $25 for kids aged 6-12, and free for kids 5 and under-- it's money well spent. Some might call this place pricey but after coming here, I disagree. Places like this are so rare and unique that they can just take my money. I've never been to a garden so full of exotic plants, flowers that I'd never seen before, mini waterfalls, a pond, and to top it all off-- getting to see the ocean waves crashing onto the lava rocks at the end of the garden. Prior to this I had never seen orchids growing in the wild off of tree trunks. These guys were everywhere here. And how do I know this place is cool even for Gen Z?-- I caught my 20 year old nephew taking videos of a beautiful flower that he was admiring. Of course I didn't make a huge deal out of it because he would have blown me off. Once you walk the paths and over the bridges, you can see how meticulously this garden is maintained. When you find out the history of how Mr. Dan Lutkenhouse Sr. and his wife Pauline who bought this parcel of land back in 1977 and decided to turn it into a garden, you'll be even more amazed. There was no machinery used to turn this place into the garden it is today. It was 40 years of Dan and his assistant Terry Takiue who worked with *just* cane knives, sickles, picks, shovels and a chainsaw to clear paths through the jungle. Another fun fact: He had no formal training in botanical gardening... Insert mind blown emoji here... Can you imagine that?? I can only respect that these guys did this just so that we could enjoy this garden paradise for us and future generations to see. Bravo to this place coming from our fam that came and loved it.

As coffee lovers, Heavenly Hawaiian constantly came up in my research and I'm glad we toured for ourselves. The grounds itself are absolutely gorgeous and that view from the hill onto the ocean is unreal! I can't for the life of me remember our tour guides name but she was such a joy and extremely knowledgeable. Learning about the different coffee variants that are grown such as Kona typica, Progeny 502, and the "boujee girl" Geisha was awesome to learn about and see for ourselves. Did I mention endless coffee sampling? Such a relaxing atmosphere to sip all the coffee you want and enjoy that view. And the cutest cats on the property were such a delight mingling with the guests. All staff members were so helpful and they even treated us with a goodie bag of freshly picked fruits from the farm and a bag of peaberry bites (my new favorite) all as a thank you for paying a visit on our honeymoon! Was not expecting that all but such a sweet gesture! I would highly recommend Heavenly Hawaiian farms to anyone if you're on the Big Island or in the Kona area. Absolutely worth the trip up the hill and to feel the aloha from the staff and grounds.

The land itself is absolutely beautiful, with stunning views that make you want to linger a little longer and soak it all in. You can tell how much care and pride goes into everything they do here. We learned so much about what makes these coffee beans so special, from how they are grown and harvested to how they are processed and roasted. It gave me a whole new appreciation for every sip. And Ben, our tour guide, was incredible. So charming, so knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about what he does. He made the experience engaging and memorable from start to finish. Highly recommend this tour if you are anywhere near Kona. It is an experience you will not forget.

Admission is $10 for visitors (which may be expensive unless you love plants), and thankfully free for kama'aina. It's not a large area, but it's filled with Hawaiian native plants. Many of them aren't the palm trees and plumeria you'd be expecting; these are the real ones, mostly hearty scrub type plants, plus many varieties of taro, breadfruit, and other staples. They had a nice variety of flowers. Parts of the garden are very sunny and hot, so dress accordingly. There are also shaded areas under trees and pavilions. They also have a clean restroom. It's collection started in the 1970s and once was a site for a zoo (which closed in 1997). Our party of four spent an early afternoon here, taking an Uber (got unlucky and hit surge pricing of $35) from a takeout lunch spot. The caretaker (who took our admission price of $10 per non-resident) was super nice, explaining how there is an app that one can download and can then use without internet to hear audio commentary on many of the plants in the collection. There is a modern bathroom building in the same area, along with a place to refill your water bottles. One can probably walk through the entire garden in about an hour if going fast, 2 hours if taking one's time and reading/listening. There are plenty of shaded places to sit, and because it wasn't too crowded, we never felt hurried. My favorite places were where they had the agricultural plants like taro, sweet potato, banana, and sugar cane (many varieties). They also had a small grove of coconut trees, cordoned off to prevent unfortunate accidents from falling ripe coconuts. They did have some flowering plants, including a hibiscus. But you wouldn't come here for that; instead its to learn about the plants native to Hawaii and pick up a bit of history along the way.
