South River Rehab and Performance has no equal…read more It's late on a Tuesday evening, and our son has injured his leg at practice and walking is quite painful. In similar situations in the past we had gone to the ER or Urgent Care, only to get a long wait, followed by an evaluation from a "generalist" MD, costly x-rays, and a referral to an Orthopedic MD. This time, we just called South River, and drove from the field immediately for an evaluation by a licensed Physical Therapist (who also has a PhD.) That was a much better decision for us, and fantastic experience working through the recovery plan! We continued going to South River, but now as a family -- kids for performance and injury prevention, while we parents were getting fantastic, customized core workouts. As a coach and player, I've been using Physical Therapy and Performance training for years, most often in large urban areas (like Chicago, Raleigh-Durham, etc). South River owner's knowledge of cutting edge workout methodologies is equal to the best trainers I've worked with. It's the way SR customizes workout and rehab methodologies to the individual athlete that is superior (in my view) to other places we have gone.

When I first came to Ivyrehab, I had not yet had an MRI but was told by the PT at assessment that…read moreit was unlikely that I had torn my mensiscus as I had none of the symptoms. I actually had all of them and the MRI revealed a complete tear. I hesitated to return but I was in a lot of pain and decided to give it a try. Through the month or so that I went to the center there was no consistency, no real indication of their grasping the degree of pain and diminished mobility I was experiencing, and no real focus on the task at hand. The therapists or interns changed at each session so if progress was made with a therapist, it was lost when another directed a different course. It was confusing. I felt somewhat better after each session but I never made the progress I had hoped to make. Just as I was starting to see some long term (more than a few hours) improvement the head therapist decides I need no more therapy. He relayed this information in a harsh, nearly rude manner. Of course I left and called the orthapedic surgeon who will be doing my PRP treatments and she recommended that I continue PT with one of her therapists until the PRP injection and afterwards for as long as its needed. Overall, I feel this practice is disorganized, unprofessional, and not focused on the individual clients. At times it has a hectic atmosphere that is distracting and out of control and not at all conducive to a healing experience. Therapists often work with multiple clients and are unable to focus or keep up with them. There are some good therapists there but it is not being adequately managed. I would recommend some corporate oversight to ensure that the center is brought up to a higher standard. I will not atend my next session or return to this center under any condition.
