South River Rehab and Performance has no equal…read more It's late on a Tuesday evening, and our son has injured his leg at practice and walking is quite painful. In similar situations in the past we had gone to the ER or Urgent Care, only to get a long wait, followed by an evaluation from a "generalist" MD, costly x-rays, and a referral to an Orthopedic MD. This time, we just called South River, and drove from the field immediately for an evaluation by a licensed Physical Therapist (who also has a PhD.) That was a much better decision for us, and fantastic experience working through the recovery plan! We continued going to South River, but now as a family -- kids for performance and injury prevention, while we parents were getting fantastic, customized core workouts. As a coach and player, I've been using Physical Therapy and Performance training for years, most often in large urban areas (like Chicago, Raleigh-Durham, etc). South River owner's knowledge of cutting edge workout methodologies is equal to the best trainers I've worked with. It's the way SR customizes workout and rehab methodologies to the individual athlete that is superior (in my view) to other places we have gone.

From the moment I walked into the office, my experience with them has been outstanding. A thorough initial assessment suggested a potential inner ear deficit that would be amenable to a course of balance and vestibular rehabilitation therapy. Over the past month and a half, I have worked with 3 different therapists, including my 6 most recent sessions with John Osorio. All providers have been excellent, capable and professional but John, in particular, has been especially noteworthy. He is attentive, closely monitoring how I perform various exercises to ensure my form is good so that I obtain the optimal benefit from the exercise. He both encourages and challenges me to increase my level of effort to strengthen my core, improve my walking gait, and enhance my balance. John and his Synergy colleagues have definitely improved my balance, reduced my risk of falling, and enhanced my every day confidence. Almost 12 years ago I sustained a bi-malleolar fracture of my left ankle that required surgical repair and left me quite insecure about walking on uneven terrain. As a result of my Synergy experience, I feel much more confident walking outdoors and recently completed a 3 mile walk along the Woods Creek Trail without the use of my walking sticks.

When I spoke with the office manager to request a refund for the wrong boot, she was dismissive saying "you should have called us back" and "its the same boot we would have give you anyway," even thought it clearly was the wrong medical device. There was no apology, empathy or concern for the mistake or my son's condition. Everyone makes mistakes, but it is how an office handles them that matters. Unfortunately, Shenandoah Valley Orthopedics showed no accountability or compassion.
