I had a membership to Cole Harbour Place for a little over a year and I probably went regularly for about four months and then never again. Such is life. Still, as far as gyms go, I really did appreciate the CHP experience. The membership was crazy affordable as a result of a employee program, the staff on site are extremely friendly even at the ungodly hour of the morning when I'm essentially a crossbreed between a harpy and a mistreated rhinoceros, the range of equipment satisfies everything from 'getting ready for summer' to 'HULK SMASH! HULK MAKE MUSCLE! HULK EAT YOU FOR BREAKFAST!', and the number of machines on site were usually pretty good at handling the volume of people coming in. But of course, that's just the gym portion. There's also a hockey rink, a pool, a library, and a ridiculous amount of classes all held on site. So if you're a better person than I who can actually tolerate indoor exercise, Cole Harbour Place has got you covered for pretty much whatever you're into. Jut watch out for Hulk. He gets carried away.

I had the very good fortune to observe with Qing as part of my studies in TCM. She is a warm, caring, and super knowledgeable Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine. She's been in practice for 30 years, she was trained in China, and you couldn't be in better hands for treatment in Halifax. I watched one case come into her clinic so crippled up with pain he could hardly walk. 3 treatments later - he DANCED out the door. I watched her treat all kinds of complaints with very good results. She has a wall full of pictures of babies that were born after the mothers saw her for fertility treatments. People love her. You will too. And she's very funny. Yep. 5 stars.

I have been suffering with severe headaches and migraines for almost two years now. I've been for test after test, and tried many different medications. As a last resort I decided to follow a co-workers suggestion and try out a naturopath at Pillars of Health. I booked an appointment with Dr. Jennifer Salib Huber (who is also a dietitian), and immediately felt at ease. She asked me more questions than I think my family doctor has ever asked me, and then was able to determine a likely cause, and a treatment plan including dietary changes and visits to a chiropractor (not a pile of prescription meds!) In three days I had better results than I had had in the past two years, and the following week I went to see Dr. Denise Wright, the chiropractor in the office, who also helped me greatly but with no big whipping or snapping movements that I was scared of. She was also great when it came to putting me at ease, and always uses the gentlest method of adjustment possible. She also suggested I see a Registered Massage Therapist (Meghan L. Munro (Palmer), and all three combined have virtually gotten rid of my headaches. I know for someone without medical coverage this can be expensive but for those who are covered by an insurance plan I would highly recommend all of the staff at Pillars of Health. I also liked that they are trying to help me not have to come back. I know that my sound weird but sometimes I feel like (especially with private practitioners), they want you to keep coming so they keep getting paid, but here getting you better really is their #1 priority. They do direct bill to Blue Cross, and their clinic is very clean and welcoming.

Well it did work! I'm off narcotics, reduced the other medications and feel terrific. She's helped me through back pain, lack of sleep, reduced energy levels, thyroid issues, and more. I can't say enough good things about their willingness to help and want you to feel better. My first visit was a head to toe overview of an hour to make sure we would focus on what was required. She's worked to make me feel better and is never trying to make me come more often than required.

Tucked away off Cole Harbour Road, this little place houses a chiropractor's office and a massage therapy room. The small waiting room at the front provides ergonomically supported chairs and plenty of information on bone and spinal health. Your bones are your infrastructure! But for as simple as the place it, it has just what you need. Chiropractic medicine is not for everyone. You have to be comfortable having your bones pushed and prodded and cracked back into place. The registered chiropractor there is very gentle, and does a great job of answering all of your questions and alleviating any concerns you might have about lying down on a table that's going to slide around and pop your spine into place. Plus, she's going to encourage exercises and stretches you can do to help keep your core strong and straighten your back. She can plan a regimen that will help maximize your mobility and minimize your pain. If you're like me and your problem is beyond skeletal and encompasses your musculature, you might need some muscle manipulation to work out the kinks. Luckily, the massage therapy room in the back is there to welcome you to your next phase of healing. A comfortable massage table, soothing music, and capable hands are going to work your muscles into submission. Their prices are comparable to other spots, and they can do direct billing if your insurance is set up that way. A move and a depleted insurance made me stop going there a couple of years ago. However, now that I'm back in the neighbourhood, I'll likely be going back for a helpful crack now and again.
