    Over spray under the hood
    Matthew L.

Hey guys, If you're reading this then you're probably looking to get your car customized and also wondering why I"m rating this a one star business. For those who want the short version: I don't feel at all that the business is run honestly or right. My car suffered serious damage that only friends that were auto professionals could help me fix. If you want your car dipped or wrapped I would recommend checking out CB3 Customs in Carollton. The long version: I was shopping around for a 370z and finally found one with all the options I wanted. The only problem was that it wasn't in the white color I wanted. The dealership offered to have it dipped the color I wanted in and include in the price of the car if I agreed to buy it. Now, there was a lot of pain in getting the car dipped in a timely manner and also negotiating the price after the fact with the dealership, but I found out the dipper they were going to use was Psychotic Modifications (Psychotic Dips at the time) and I reached out to the owner, Jeff Long, directly. At first and for awhile, I thought Jeff was doing right by me. Over time, I discovered the truth was he was covering his tracks as best as he could. The following are details of how my car had improper work done to it by Psychotic Modifications: 1. When I first got the car back from the dealership after they picked up the car from getting dipped, I noticed a lot of black dots and stain marks on the car. At a distance it looked good, but if you were within 15-20 feet of the car, I could easily notice the imperfections. There was also a lot of over spray under the hood, the trunk lid, and actually pretty much anywhere over spray could be, it was there. I'll have photos showing this. 2. I took it back to Psychotic Modifications and they agreed that the car definitely was not up to standard and repaired it. It definitely looked better, but it wasn't perfect. Overall, I felt it was good enough to where I wasn't gonna raise an issue. After all, I'm not a professional that does this, I wanted to give Jeff the benefit of the doubt. 3. My car got dinged, but luckily the dip protected the car and Jeff said he'll fix it up as well as touch up my wheels that he dipped. I paid him an extra 20$ just because I appreciated him helping me out and because he stayed late to give me my car back. However, he also said he would fix all the little imperfections and while the car definitely looked better, it was definitely not at least within 85% perfect. Over spray and everything was still everywhere. I asked Jeff about the over spray at this point because I started to get really bothered by it. He told me it was standard and that without it the dip would peel off too easy. At this point, I still believed him. 4. After a lot of recent storms in Dallas, one part of the dip got really bruised so I decided to try peeling off just that one part of the panel on the car and it really hit me how bad things were messed up. I saw improper base coating splattered all over the car and dirt after I peeled off that one panel. I'm not a dipping professional, but anyone in the business will tell you that you always wash the car and get it perfectly clean before dipping. Also as I began to ask around, all the other professionals said that over spray and proper base coating should be well taken care of through proper prep work. 5. As it happens, I saw Jeff posting pictures of recent cars he worked on and noticed that in certain ones, the engine area under the hood and trunk were properly masked off. However mine clearly was not. I called Jeff and was talking to him about helping him fix up his website because earlier on he said he would like help with it and casually asked him about the over spray again and the prep work as well this time. Jeff finally admitted that the dealership paid him less than the job was worth, but he took the job anyways and only did about 85% to 90% of the prep work he was supposed to do. He told me: "You get what you pay for. Since I only got 85% or 90% of what I was supposed to get paid, we only did 85% or 90% of the work." I'm a firm believer in paying someone what they deserve for their work, but the dealership and him worked out the price and not me. If Jeff had a problem with the price then he should have just told me he wanted more money or not taken the job instead of taking the job and messing up my car. As I'm writing this review, I'm having a good friend of mine that works in the auto industry to completely remove the dip, the over spray, the bonded contamination that's on my car, and every last bit of bad prep work that was done, from my car. It is my personal experience that I have been lied to and as a result I have spent over 1400 dollars at Psychotic Modifications for unethical and bad work. Maybe other cars had a better experience, but my 370z definitely suffered. ***Owner response is false and half true at best.
