I first learned about neurofeedback when my osteopathic doctor recommended Los Angeles…read moreNeurofeedback. At the time, I was dealing with chronic lower back pain, persistent inner tension, low energy, and anxiety. My osteopath believed that much of what I was experiencing was related to emotional stress and thought neurofeedback could help regulate my nervous system and expand my capacity to respond to whatever life brings. From my very first session, I noticed a shift. Instead of feeling tense and on edge, I felt calmer, more settled, and soothed. I continued going twice a week for about 16 sessions, and over time I kept noticing meaningful changes in both how I felt and how I responded to everyday life. One thing I really appreciate is that neurofeedback didn't make me feel like I was avoiding or suppressing my emotions. Life still brings stress, and I still experience triggers and the physical sensations that can come with them. The difference is that they no longer feel as intense (if they're intense at all), and they don't linger nearly as long. Situations that would have completely derailed me in the past simply don't carry the same charge anymore. I feel like I've made meaningful and lasting changes in how I respond to stress since adding neurofeedback to my care routine. That "boost" my osteopath talked about became very evident because it made all of the calming and self-regulation practices I'd been using for years feel much more effective. Meg and all of the facilitators at Los Angeles Neurofeedback are wonderful. They're knowledgeable, gentle, professional, and take the time to answer questions, so you always feel like you're in good hands. It's now been over a month since my last session, and I still feel more grounded, intentional, and able to take life's inevitable ups and downs in stride. If you're dealing with anxiety, chronic stress, inner tension, or feeling emotionally "stuck," I'd encourage you to look into neurofeedback and see whether it might be a good fit for you. My experience at Los Angeles Neurofeedback was excellent, and for me, it was time and money very well spent.

I had never gone to therapy before but it was something I always wanted to try. I found her through Yelp and was impressed with the reviews and called her for a consultation. She was warm and personable and asked some questions to see if she felt she could help me. Once she determined she could, she set up a weekly time that worked with my schedule. Through my sessions, I gained so much understanding into connecting with my inner self. I had already spent a lot of time dwelling on my childhood emotional traumas and I had felt like I had a good grasp of my emotional patterns. I just hadn't figured out how to heal from them. Her first hypnotherapy session (which I would describe as a guided meditation) was a profound experience for me. She helped me connect visually with the concept of "self love", something I struggled with my whole life. I'm so grateful for the experience, and she was such an incredible emotional support through a very difficult period of time in my life. She helped me maintain healthy coping habits and to deal with hard times gracefully and in a way I feel proud of looking back. She is a wonderful and authentic healer and I highly recommend her!

Be wary of one star reviews for treatment centers. There are some vindictive, bitter, angry clients…read morewho will blame anyone but themselves; and treatment centers and their staff tend to be a go-to target for abuse and retaliation. In short, Annandale worked for me. Short story made long: Like any treatment center, you will get out what you put in though. But a good treatment center will give you all the tools, support and understanding you need. And that is what Annandale provides: a structure and foundation for your success, which you build on once you leave. All the various treatment center bells, whistles and accoutrements don't matter without a good staff/therapists on hand to guide and support. Luckily, Annandale has both. The program itself focuses not only on getting sober/maintaining sobriety, but also on modifying negative thought patterns and the troublesome behavior that arises as a result. They know that you must focus on the problem itself, not just the symptoms, in order to recover. Drinking is a symptom of a deeper rooted issue. They also offer some unique elements to the program, such as equine therapy and soundbaths. I scoffed initially, but kept an open mind. And guess what? It was a great help. Other groups/activities included yoga, meditation, mindfulness walks, nature walks, art, gardening, etc. They take you to 12 step recovery meetings, but Annandale itself is non-denominational as far as I could gather. Which is a plus in my book. Great location in Pasadena. Right up the street from the Rose Bowl, where you'll take walks some days. Other walks go a block or two in the other direction and offer absolutely breathtaking panoramic views of the Rose Bowl, Pasadana and its environs, mountain ranges etc. It's truly a sight to behold. The house and its campus are extremely serene and quiet. The house is comfortable, a comfy "home" vibe with people that genuinely care. A special feeling to it. Doesn't feel like some "facility". Private bedrooms with their own flat screen TVs. Almost all have their own private bathroom. You get to place takeout lunch and dinner choices (with a mind towards healthy options from some great restaurants) on the iPad every day (which is included with your stay). But more than anything, it is the staff that makes or breaks the place. All complete professionals with experience and knowledge. Darryl is the owner and possibly the first person you'll speak to. a very kind, caring, genuine, astute and just cool guy. Very helpful and personable. I was in a bad way when I initially called and Darryl was an immeasurable help in easing my concerns and providing comfort in a very distressful time in my life. Remy, the on-site nurse, is extremely attentive and understanding. Dr Coe is one of the most brilliant doctors I've ever had the pleasure of speaking with--the guy pulled things out that shocked me, things that no doctor-therapist/psychiatrist has been able to reach or decipher in all my years. He gave me a true, unbridled diagnosis of where my issues stemmed from. My wife of 20 years co-signed what he said with a very troubling passion (haha). Said he was spot-on, and he was. Roxanne is one of the kindest and most lovely people I've ever met. The most gentle eyes, emphatic tone -- a truly calming presence who offered me immeasurable support so thank you . Jordan was relatable, friendly and easy to talk to. Very intelligent and understanding of how addiction and sobriety work. Kevin, one of the nicest guys I've ever met. Michael, who became a genuine friend and somebody I could always talk to -- and was always willing to listen. Becky, Carrie, Xenia, Alex, Chris and I know I'm missing a few, but really, everyone was great and offered their own unique approach/personality. This place quite literally saved my life. I was on death's door and couldn't even walk in my own when I went in. And walked out a "new' man.

Not only did she address my basic questions that we all have when looking at therapy options for the first time but she actually took time to talk to me and listen to me probably more than she should have about my issues in my relationship. She even asked questions. I felt heard and engaged with and for as brief as it was, it was like a breath of fresh air. I don't usually write reviews, but for someone who took time to listen when they had really no obligation to, I just had to. Highly recommend considering if you are looking at options. I never felt rushed. He makes himself available to clients in and out of the office before, during, and after treatment with a "call anytime" policy that isn't just for show. This is what truly sets this medical office apart from others I researched before committing. Integration work with a trained therapist was included and helped to significantly process the treatments. Alyssa and Rona, the nurses, were great! Calm, attentive, and reassuring during every session, checking in often so I could relax and let the treatment work. Maya at the front desk was warm and made I've noticed a real flexibility in my mood, greater clarity of thinking, and enhanced ability to challenge formerly ingrained negative thought loops. It's not a magic wand, but it's made a meaningful difference for me. The space is clean, quiet, and comfortable, and they even have snacks and drinks afterward. The entire experience was first class. Awful experience I…read morewaited several months from when I got the treatments in hopes that I might feel some kind of result after a little passage of time. I did not. This was a truly awful experience for me. The doctor recommended that I get 6-2 hour sessions. I got through four of them with no result except for feeling absolutely terrible after every treatment. Massive headaches and disorientation lasted until I went to sleep that night. In addition, I really didn't jive with the doctor. He didn't strike me as genuinely sincere. Also, and I'm sure there's people who find this comforting, but I don't think a medical professional should take hold of your hand and look into your eyes meaningfully when it was clearly uncomfortable with him doing so. I've very happy for those who got positive result from this treatment, but I was not one of them.
