I wanted to wait a week or so before writing this because I was livid. I still feel the same. She…read moreclaims to be a relationship expert. My experience with her was not only unhelpful, but actually left feeling more scarred than before. I was going through a very tough moment in my life and called around on a Sunday. She was quite eager to take me and in fact, rushed me to come as soon as I could. She told me her home was serene and I would appreciate the peace and quiet. I felt grateful but that should have been a red flag... Upon arriving, she met me at the door in her pajamas and led me into her chaotic sun room. I mean piles of paper all over her desk, statuettes everywhere, and that particular day was freezing. But I thought, "She's been on Oprah, and Oprah doesn't lie." After explaining to her my relationship situation, the first thing she asked was if I thought he was having an affair. And even when I replied with certainty that "Sure, anything is possible, but I truly do not believe that that is the problem." She pushed the affair angle further then quickly jumped into her own relationship problems! She talked about herself almost the entire time!! I probably know more about her "clinger/clinger" relationship than she knows about mine. Additionally, she kept pushing her books and CDs on me. Oh! The best part? She took a 5 minutes phone call in the middle of our 45 minutes session. Once she hung up, she told me about how the woman who called was a "stinger" and that is why she had to answer. When our time was up she did not even extend it. She had the nerve to ask me if I wanted another 45 minutes session. Honestly, I wanted her to be an expert. When you're going through a difficult phase in your life, enough to seek help, the last thing you want is someone who is dumping their baggage onto you... at a $195/hr price tag, by the way. Before leaving, I actually told her how I felt she did not truly listen or offer solutions. She pushed her books and CDs on me once more and I said that the session was already so expensive that I couldn't afford to spend more money. She said "My time is expensive but the books are $15." I said I already wrote out the check, She looked at me and said "You don't have another check?" Really??? Anyway, sorry about the rant but if you're looking for a therapist who is empathetic, effective, and worth your hard earned cash, look elsewhere. I felt robbed and genuinely hurt that someone in her position was only out for herself.
