I think so! it's a sickness. It therefore stands to reason that I am pathologically unable to even pass a bike shop without darting in and combing through every aisle like someone auditioning for Supermarket Sweep. I was 'up west' for a change. On the assumption that all West London residents drive Range Rovers I was pleasantly surprised by Cyclopolis, a small but perfectly formed 'half bike shop, half workshop' in Balham. So was it better than the inimitable 14 bike co, you might ask? Clearly not; but it's great for when you want a little splash of quality and style in amongst all the usual practical items. Like decent Kevlar tyres. A respectable range of Brooks saddles. More Abus products than you'd imagine in one place. Very well stocked indeed. they also do the bike to work scheme, if you are as scarred by Evans as I am. Oh, and there's stuff for your kids if you want to get them hooked too. It's more of a shop for people who ride Pashleys or off road, but they know what to do with fixed gear and single speed lovers too. No, and I don't mean slapping them.

I took my old road bike there, and explained that I was hoping to get an upgrade soon. They identified a number of problems with my current bike, and helped me prioritise which I should pay them to address, which I could fix myself and which weren't worth me sorting given that I was about to get a new bike. Very honest, and much appreciated as a woman who is often bamboozled by unnecessary bike jargon. They even tried to help me with parts for the new bike! I've returned several times, and Mark has offered me on-the-spot advice and quick fixes. I have now bought an expensive road bike and have absolutely no hesitation in taking it to Stratton Cycle. This is the first time I can say that after trying MANY bike shops in the area. The store front is very unassuming, but the service offered is second to none - I'd highly recommend for low to high end bikes!

Funny thing is I was about to spend some money on a new bike, but I'll take my business elsewhere. such a shame. don't go here, especially on a Saturday morning if the man I was "served" by is working, did not care about me what so ever

Avoid Brixton Cycles: Unacceptable Service and Rude Staff…read more Dear Potential Customers, I am writing to share my extreme frustration and disappointment with the service I received from Brixton Cycles. I brought my bike in for a repair that was promised to be completed within 2 to 5 days. However, it has now been over 9 days, and every time I call for an update, I am told the bike is not ready, but they will look at it right now. This has been the case for the past 4 days, causing me significant inconvenience and additional commuting costs. This is the second time I have used Brixton Cycles services, and both times the service has been delayed and mishandled. On this occasion, I called around 18:40 to inquire if my bike was ready. A woman informed me that it was not, but she could look at it. I expressed my frustration and asked how this could be, as every time I call, I get the same response. She then started saying she is not responsible for her colleagues' work and will not take accountability for their failures. She repeatedly talked over me, preventing me from explaining that I needed the bike ready before my holiday, which now forces me to rent a bike, incurring additional costs. The lack of responsibility and basic customer service skills displayed by the staff at Brixton Cycles is unacceptable. I cannot understand how a company allows such disorganized and dysfunctional behavior to persist. The employee's refusal to take any form of accountability and her disrespectful attitude reflect poorly on the business. As a customer, I am understandably furious. Not only have I been lied to repeatedly, but I have also been disrespected and ignored. To make matters worse, when I tried to explain my situation, the call was transferred to another employee who also talked over me and eventually hung up on me. When I rushed to the store, there was no one available to address my concerns. This level of service is beyond unacceptable. I have worked in customer service for 5 years, and I am appalled at the way I was treated. It is evident that the team at Brixton Cycles lacks basic customer service skills and manners. Such behavior should not be tolerated, and it is clear that there are significant issues within the company's culture and operations. I will never again take my bike to Brixton Cycles or advise any of my friends and family to use their services. It is incredible that this generation of young people has no social or professional skills to deal with customers, especially when customers have every right to be angry. I demand a resolution to this situation. I expect my bike to be repaired immediately. I don't even want any compensation for the additional costs I have incurred, nor a formal apology for the rude and unprofessional behavior of the staff because it is clear that Brixton Cycles allows this as part of its company culture. If these issues are not addressed promptly, I will have no choice but to take further action, including sharing my experience on social media and review platforms. I hope this review helps others make an informed decision and avoid the frustrations I have experienced with Brixton Cycles. Sincerely, Adilson Mendes

I am clearly an advocate of the lunch option - delicious cheese toasties and spot-on flat whites. Could it be any better?! Nestled inside the little labyrinth that is Broadway Market in Tooting, there is Pedal Back Cafe, a small bike workshop that also does decent coffee and lovely melts, as they call the toasts. I never went there to get a bike done, but I have been there over lunch. Unfortunately, Pedal Back Cafe is a bit too far away from where I work to go there more regularly, but every now and then, I hop on the tube and get off at Tooting Broadway station. It's just a short walk from the station, and without any doubt worth the effort. Service is down-to-earth and very friendly, and they do really good coffee. I am also a big fan of the cheese melt, made with proper, dark, savoury bread. If you have a sweet tooth, you will also find some tasty treats - my favourites are perhaps the macarons. Pedal Back Cafe is a hidden gem. Once you have discovered it, you will keep coming back. The only downside: you better be able to tolerate the market stall selling fish just a few meters away.
