If I could give this testing center minus one star, I would. Do not go to this testing center. I had an exam schedule for December 4th, which I prepared for over several months while working full time. I have Diabetes and use Insulin, and I had an approved accommodation from ADA and The Board of Pharmacy allowing me to bring sweets into the exam room because hypoglycemia can be fatal. Despite the official approval letter, the proctor did not follow the approved accommodation and didn't allow the candy inside the testing room. Instead, it was placed outside, and I was told my exam would be paused if I needed to retrieve it. I did not argue and complied. In the middle of the exam, my blood sugar dropped. When I asked for the exam to be paused so I could get a candy, it was ended instead by mistake!!! They were unable to fix the issue, and I was sent home!!! The next available exam date was 2 months later. Nearly 3 weeks have passed without resolution or the ability to reschedule. I contacted the center multiple times, but no clear responsibility was taken. A manager at the Board of Pharmacy informed me that this type of incident is extremely uncommon and had not occurred in many years. Exam accommodations exist to provide equal access for individuals with medical conditions. In my experience, this situation was handled improperly and resulted in significant stress and delay. This PSI South Bay testing center is conveniently located on Hawthorne Blvd just a half block south of Manhattan Beach Blvd, next to the 405 freeway. The building has a dedicated parking lot (positive), next to the freeway (positive) easy to locate, but with a decent sized homeless encampment adjacent to the parking lot (big negative) under the freeway. For safety reasons, I chose not to park next to the tents (as a female traveling alone) and instead squeeze my SUV into one of the tight compact spaces on the north side of the lot. The testing center was relatively easy to find. It's clearly a lot older than the Prometric sites that I'd been to before. Older carpeting. Old lockers with numbers written in sharpie on masking tape. Visible storage/clutter. Probably 12-15 chairs. The staff was friendly, and professional (just to add though, at this point I was feeling a little more like an inmate rather than a professional) but there were a few rules (different from other test centers) that I wished I knew about before going in that were NOT indicated on the test confirmation. *No hoodies or pockets. They made everyone remove outerwear, including light sweaters. I felt fortunate to have worn long sleeves today as it is chilly outside and I run cold. Had I been wearing my normal sleeveless tank/tee under my sweater or hoodie, I would have been VERY upset. The temp inside the testing room might have been around 70, so colder than comfortable without, in my opinion. *No obvious bathroom or offer for the bathroom. It was a short exam this time, so not a big deal, but testing centers/proctors usually offer a chance to use the restrooms prior to exam taking. *No fingerprinting services even though it was requested for my appointment. They just don't do it anymore. *No chewing gum. I wasn't, and don't, but I've never been asked before. My car was still where I'd left it and appeared undamaged (just the mere fact that I thought about it caused me a little more unnecessary anxiety). But otherwise an ok experience. read more

If you can go to a different PSI location I WOULD! My letter instructed no appointment needed but I had to wait for everyone else to check in first THAN they can take care of me and all I needed was a photo. An hour wait just for a photo. read more

I took a test at this location not to long ago. Upon arriving to the location you can find lots of parking. However the parking can be confusing as I saw many signs for certain suites to park in designated locations only. Certain areas of the lot seemed sketchy so I didn't want to park to far away. Entering the building I found a sign with all the suites in the building listed so that was quite helpful. Only one elevator was working at the time and the one that was was actually taking quite some time to come down. Once I got on the elevator I felt as if I was going to be trapped because of how it sounded as it came to stops on each floor. When I finally got to my floor it seemed like a whole two minutes gone by before the doors opened. Finding the PSI Suite was not hard at all as I saw a sign with what suites were on the floor. When I entered the testing room I wasn't greeted I was immediately asked by the young man close to the door if "I had anything on under my sweater because I am not allowed to wear that in the testing room" then the young man proceeded to direct me to lockers where I went through a security search if you will. I felt like that was so unprofessional not even being greeted before I fully walked In making sure I had the correct suite and being asked if I had anything on under my clothes??? As I went through the security check at these lockers I understood it was just standard procedure which I'm fine with. I didn't understand the excess of removing all my jewelry but I just wanted to take my exam so it didn't matter as much. I was instructed to sit along with others while we waited to be called up to a computer. As I waited I read signs in the office and watched the procedure of being I guess checked in as they called it. One important thing that truly bothered me which is why I am giving this review is how it seemed certain individuals were being spoken to before they went into the actual testing room. The shorter young man who stood at the door seemed much more rude, and or different towards certain individuals that came up as opposed to those who maybe resembled that of whom he looked like or where he possibly came from. Two gentle man went up to be taken in for the exam and were spoken to calmly and in a friendly manner, and even in a bit of his native tongue with standard English. When the next two gentleman went up after him it was like a code switch situation. One gentle man being a young Caucasian and a young African American. The shorter young man at the door spoke to them in a much more condescending tone and and not once cracked a smile or greeted them as he did the other two gentleman. When he told the other two gentleman about the locker key he only stated that they would be holding onto it. Then he stated that they couldn't sit like the woman in the picture he pointed to. When these two gentleman came up it was not the same level of respect or tone. He told them "make sure we can see your feet, make sure you keep yo hands above the desk at all times"and continued on as if he was walking them to a prison cell. As he walked them in and came back out it's like he changed back to whomever he feels he really is because the tone was normal again and the next person in front of me went. Again the "normal greeting and tone was given to this woman who he again spoke to in her native tone and in standard English" Then it was my turn. No greeting just a "alright this is your materials, YOU KNOW HOW TO USE THIS" speaking of the board I was to write on. After that everything else was rushed and I wasn't asked if I was ready to go into the testing room he just opened the door and I was to follow. I had a question but it seemed like he sped the answer up to hurry out the testing room. I'd wanted to bring this up to the lady whom I seen might have been in charge but at that point I was just ready to get out of that place. I'm not sure if these type of people are trained on racial and gender biases in the workplace but maybe that needs to be done. Also the unprofessionalism of asking someone before they've gotten into a room or even made sure they were in the right place before asking if they have something under a jacket or sweater needs to be discussed. I felt Highly Uncomfortable. My exit experience was much better than my arrival and check in process. Maybe it was because those gentleman weren't present when I came out and I dealt with the two kind younger ladies at the front at the desk. Do Better PSI or Hire Better at least! read more

I went for a test here Aug. 11 2020. This place was great, the doors werent locked, you just went in and went right up The only complaint I have is that there was probably 5 of us in the testing room and the windows dont open I dont think, masks are required, other than that the staff is great. read more

I recently went to this testing site location for my boards certification exam. Once I got my authorization letter to test, I went online to schedule a test date. Process is super easy. When I arrived, I checked in with a lady where you're given a locker to place your belongings. I was able to put my purse and jacket in there. Unfortunately, they don't let you wear hoodies because it's not approved. So don't wear anything with a hoodie or jacket with pockets. It can be a bit chilly in the computer room though. The staff was accommodating and friendly. Computers are well maintained. I did not have any issues with that. The testing process went smoothly. There is a restroom available, but you'll need to ask beforehand because you'll need a key. Other than that, I recommend this place for testing if your exam is affiliated through PSI. Also, parking is free, and there's plenty of spaces. read more

After using prometric for so many years this is quite the downgrade. The proctor was incredibly rude. When he began my test there supposed to be a 15 minute practice portion which he skipped over and wouldn't let me use. The location is in a nice enough building but facility itself it's just kind of run down. The guy barks orders at people which really stresses everyone else out too. read more

This PSI testing center is like others I have taken tests at. It is quiet, sterile, and clean. The staff is friendly and efficient, and rigorously follows the protocols required by the exam. Lockers are available so that you do not have to leave your wallet, etc., in your car. The computers and monitors are, however, decades old. The monitors are so old that type dithers when rendered on screen. If you are not of a certain age, you may not know what dithering is. Every current technology renders the letters in the questions and answers absolutely crisply. On PSI's monitors, the letters are fuzzy - this is due to dithering. If you wear vision correcting lenses, make sure they're polished up and of the right focal length for a screen, or you will struggle reading each and every question. read more

Went to take board exam during covid time. Arrived too early for my appointment and the door was locked. No number available. Waited until my suggested arrival time and then it was open. Very clean, very efficient and nice people. I would suggest they place test takers further apart in the room though. read more

I went to this location for my board law exam. The door was locked and nobody was there. I called PSI and they contacted the supervisor. Supervisor said they are there and testing is going on. I've been standing outside their door and knocking and nobody is there. They lied and they don't show up when I have the confirmation letter to take the exam there that day and time. What a waste of an hour drive and another hour of waiting outside their door! So unprofessional and unacceptable. WTF? I can't even reschedule until PSI finds out what happened at this location. read more
