Today, my Truck needed a jump. I was sitting in the Vogue Center in St. Matthews. I had called AAA and asked them to come out and jump the truck. They said I had reached my annual limit for assistance and were going to charge me $90 for service. I explained that I thought we had a much higher usage of 12 times during a year. I said I would pass. Well nevertheless I was about 30 yards from Pruitts Chevron. So, I walked over and asked them. At first they said normal price is $35 for a jump. I thought, well, that's better than $90 and was prepared to pay. But the attendant said he would talk to his Boss since I was just 30 yards away. The word came back that there would be NO charge. We walked back to the truck and he jumped it and I was off. I have dealt sporadically with this gas station, but after today I will definitely use it more often. Plus, they are full service!! I recommend using these guys services to everyone. We all just need to look out for each other! read more

While I've used Pruitt's before some routine maintenance on our cars and have always been very satisfied, my most recent experience is a great example of why local businesses really are the best. I was about to run a few errands on a Friday afternoon and it took a few tries to get my engine to turn over. Knowing precious little about cars and always skeptical of getting scammed, my first call was to Pruitt's to see if there was any chance they could help me that day. As usual, the guy who answered the phone was polite and professional. Even though it was a Friday afternoon and I know they're always busy, he did not hesitate in telling me to drive on over and they'd take a look immediately to see if they could get me going for the weekend. I parked next to their building and before I could even make it inside an employee approached me, knew that I had called, and was testing my electrical system after less than three minutes on site. It turned out the problem was just that my battery was dying. They checked the size, informed me of the prices for everything, and got my clear ok before doing the work. In less than 45 minutes I was back on the road. Not only did they install the new battery, but they did a full electrical system test afterward and printed a copy of the results so I could see that there was nothing wrong with the alternator. Since I'm not a car person, and I think that's pretty obvious, a less honest shop easily could have told me there was a problem and charged me several hundred more to replace a part that was working fine. Professional, polite, and honest service. Plus fair prices and prompt help. We will continue to use Pruitt's and recommend it! read more

Pruitt's is just fantastic. I've frequently gotten gas there for many years, and always appreciated the nonchalant courtesy windshield cleaning in the process. But I'd never thought of getting my car serviced there until I got fed up with the dishonesty from other car repair shops. Since I started going to Pruitt's a couple years ago, I've never had a problem. Pruitt's is 100 percent trustworthy in my experience and they always do an excellent job, carefully explaining the issues and options. And when they don't have what I really want, which was the case with tires once, they told me and advised that I go to the dealer. It might not be easy to get your car in quickly at Pruitt's due to its popularity, but that's the only downside. I highly recommend it. read more

This is by far the best place to get your car worked on. My wife and I lived in Louisville for 6 years, and we went to Pruitts in a pinch and never went anywhere else. They are incredibly friendly and seemed to be reasonably priced. Even if their prices were slightly higher, they'd still be the best place to go. There is a Starbucks just right up the road on Frankfort Avenue that makes a great place to get work done while they work on your car. read more

I've been relying on Pruitt's almost as long as I've been driving! It's a place where I feel I'm not treated as an inferior because of my sex or complete ignorance of all things automotive. If I'm dressed up and don't want to pump gas, or am feeling bad, a cheerful attendant will pump it, check oil, tire pressure, etc. on a recent visit, my tire was low. The service person found a screw in the tire and patched it within minutes, understanding that I was in a hurry. This place has been family run for years and earns it's reputation as trustworthy! read more

They have the highest prices for gas and they couldn't pump gas into my car. The pump stopped while they fiddled around. When they returned, I had to pump the gas myself. Self Service for full service prices. I was looking at another review. They didn't wash my windows or check my tires. I guess that's something you have to do if you want full service. read more

Doing business with Pruitts Automotive is always a pleasure. The mechanics are thorough, kind, and treat their female customers with respect. Pruitts is a small mechanic shop in St. Matthews, and they do perform a lot of services, but check with them first about performing extensive repairs. I've been to Pruitts for oil changes, airing up my tires (which they gladly do for me at no charge-I tip well because they are providing a valuable service to me!), and had the cabin air filter replaced (which is a big deal in my car as the whole dashboard must be removed). The prices are reasonable, and because they employ such nice, skilled mechanics I could not be more satisfied. read more

If you're short on time it's a good place to go for minor things. $18.50 to replace a valve stem isnt too terrible but $22 to replace a rear bulb.. Well, that's an ankle grabbing price. $4 for the bulb and $18 for labor. I've replaced bulbs... That only takes a few minutes. read more

Pruitts has always treated me well. I don't know anything about cars... Im always worried that the mechanic is going to take advantage of that, but I have full faith that I am getting a good deal and only getting what needs to be done on my car at Pruitts. And not only that, they go above and beyond!! I went here a few years ago to get my car diagnosed, it turned out I needed a new alternator. Originally they were going to fix it in the morning, but the mechanic realized it wouldn't even hold a charge long enough to get me home and back. He stayed two hours past close (on a Friday), making sure I was safe. And they did not charge me for his overtime! Another visit I came in to diagnose a funny noise. Turned out it was my struts needing to be replaced. If you have ever had to get those replaced, you know they are expensive! But the guy was honest and told me I could wait on the repair a bit longer. They've quoted me a price better or equal to most of the local shops and dealers on all the repairs they have done for me. I fully recommend their work and will continue to be a loyal customer! read more

Old time service! At the full service pump the attendent pumps the gas, checks your oil and washes your windows. Even at the self serve pump, the attendent washes your window and checks your oil. Great service you will enjoy. read more

Rocky Pruitt contacted a distributor to plead the case of my 3.5 year old distributor going out! and got a reference to the manufacturer, whom he persuaded to warranty the part after the fact ... It was shipped from the factory and installed with only a reasonable labor charge. BTW, the bad distributor originated at another car repair shop. This is above and beyond the call of duty, and also speaks very well of Rocky's standing in the auto repair world. My sister said it was a miracle. I agree - but miracles are instigated by caring people. Top place! read more

I was visiting friends in Louisville for a couple days during a road trip from South Florida to Minnesota. An hour before getting back on the road I noticed a screw in my tire. You would be hard pressed to find nicer people than the people at Pruitts! I've always gone there for my oil changes and been pleased. However, I went in the other day after my tire pressure was dangerously low, and not only was I treated with upmost curtesy (as usual), they were quickly able to diagnosis and fix the problem (a nail in the tire) for minimal expense to me! While we waited to ensure the patch worked they even cleaned my windows. Definitely stop by Pruitts for any of your car needs! read more
