Well.......
There…read moreare a few positives here, so dont let the "three stars" scare ya....
Provost is not a town where you can hit up a Westin or a Hyatt. There are few choices of accommodation. Honestly, i dont know how the Horizon compares to other "motels" in Provost. All I know, is how it compares to other properties I have stayed in. Based on my previous hotel visits go, this is definately the bottom of the barrel. However, in all fairness, the room was less than $90 a night, so i need to compare apples to apples.
I gave then three stars based on the following criteria:
- the room was clean. I checked out both the bathroom and the bed, and I am happy to report there was no concerns.
- no funky smells - it smelled like air. Not mildew, stagnant air or perfumes to mask problems. My nose usually tells me before my eyes tell me, and im happy to say it didnt stink.
- free wifi and a flat screen tv - technology always wins points with me.
The loss of two stars, quite frankly everything else. The decor was right out of a 1970s movie. I posted pictures of the room, and it was...... Not good. It looks like they decorated at value village.
Also, the furniture was not that comfortable either. I can sleep whether i am comfortable or not, but the bed and couch were both a little rickity. They didn't show signs of wear, but when you sat down, you could tell the bed was not a serta sealy or simmons. And the couch had no visible signs of wear, but when you sat on that burgundy plush couch, you could tell it has seen some life.
This place is in dire need of a renovation. Also, it could have used an extra piece of furniture for the kitchen appliances outside of the bathroom area. The microwave was under the air conditioner and beside the bathroom sink (again check out pictures). Also, if I was sitting on the toilet with the door open, I could touch the microwave. I wish I was kidding.
However, the three things that mattered were all provided (clean, no funky smell and wifi). And you can't beat the price.
Breakfast is also supplied, but i did not try it, so I cannot comment, but for those of you who are considering the Horizon for your next Provost visit, the continental breakfast is provided.
Last but not least, you pay in "advance" for your room. I guess in a place like this, you don't have to worry about ringing up any amenities. However, they are firm on their policy. You pay on the way in - not the way out.
