Well....... There…read moreare a few positives here, so dont let the "three stars" scare ya.... Provost is not a town where you can hit up a Westin or a Hyatt. There are few choices of accommodation. Honestly, i dont know how the Horizon compares to other "motels" in Provost. All I know, is how it compares to other properties I have stayed in. Based on my previous hotel visits go, this is definately the bottom of the barrel. However, in all fairness, the room was less than $90 a night, so i need to compare apples to apples. I gave then three stars based on the following criteria: - the room was clean. I checked out both the bathroom and the bed, and I am happy to report there was no concerns. - no funky smells - it smelled like air. Not mildew, stagnant air or perfumes to mask problems. My nose usually tells me before my eyes tell me, and im happy to say it didnt stink. - free wifi and a flat screen tv - technology always wins points with me. The loss of two stars, quite frankly everything else. The decor was right out of a 1970s movie. I posted pictures of the room, and it was...... Not good. It looks like they decorated at value village. Also, the furniture was not that comfortable either. I can sleep whether i am comfortable or not, but the bed and couch were both a little rickity. They didn't show signs of wear, but when you sat down, you could tell the bed was not a serta sealy or simmons. And the couch had no visible signs of wear, but when you sat on that burgundy plush couch, you could tell it has seen some life. This place is in dire need of a renovation. Also, it could have used an extra piece of furniture for the kitchen appliances outside of the bathroom area. The microwave was under the air conditioner and beside the bathroom sink (again check out pictures). Also, if I was sitting on the toilet with the door open, I could touch the microwave. I wish I was kidding. However, the three things that mattered were all provided (clean, no funky smell and wifi). And you can't beat the price. Breakfast is also supplied, but i did not try it, so I cannot comment, but for those of you who are considering the Horizon for your next Provost visit, the continental breakfast is provided. Last but not least, you pay in "advance" for your room. I guess in a place like this, you don't have to worry about ringing up any amenities. However, they are firm on their policy. You pay on the way in - not the way out. 14/30

Stayed for for about three months over the winter in multiple rooms. The heaters never worked…read moreright, they couldn't hold a consistent temperature. The rooms only got cleaned two or three times a week. They would do your laundry but I wouldn't count on it being done within 24 hours. I asked them to do my laundry once on a Wednesday morning. I waited until Thursday night to ask about it. I rang the bell at the front desk to get the lady out of her lair. I asked if my laundry is done? The lady who worked there was the most unpleasant person in Saskatchewan. She doesn't look at you, she doesn't say anything. She went to the laundry room and I hear the dryer start. She comes out and says 'no' and goes back to her room. There was one cleaning lady there who was the most helpful person there and she could barely speak English. Apparently she went back home to see her family over Christmas and the owner wouldn't bother to sign the papers that would let her back into the country to work. I also want to say how good the staff at the restaurant is. Awesome people work there but they said the owner would make them pay for their uniforms, which are just a black t-shirt with a logo, for $28. Ripoff. The staff didn't like him and I don't blame them. He also owns the other motel in town. I practically lived there for a winter. I hated the seahag at the front desk, I hated the owner, and as great as everyone else in the hotel and restaurant was, I hated staying there.

Hit and Miss. The inn didn't have the reservation from when…read moreI called a month earlier. But the place was practically empty so we easily got a room. It turns out that they cater to oilfield workers (surprise!) and on the weekends the hotel is dead. So as we headed to the room, we were silently dreading what sort of a room we were going to have. But we were pleasantly surprised, the room is very nice. Everything seemed to be recently renovated so it had no scratch marks or dings you'd usually find in most hotels. The bathroom was just as new and had a very tall shower-head which is a great thing instead of the typical lowering your head to wash hair like most hotels. The room is also very spacious, having a kitchenette, a 2-seat dining area, a loveseat, and a king-sized bed. The ceiling is also remarkably tall - almost 11 feet tall or so (maybe its just an upper floor thing?). So if this is a hit & miss review, where are the misses? It's the employees. I've already mentioned that whomever took my reservation screwed that task up. But we had other issues as well. We had a room for Friday and Saturday nights. Come Saturday morning at 7:30am housekeeping is knocking at the door. Honestly, housekeeping at 7:30am?! Also in the miss section is that the hotel only coded our room keys for 1 night instead of the required 2 nights. Not a huge deal, but annoying since it required multiple trips to the front desk to finally get the keys to work. So the inn is surprisingly nice and I would recommend it (not that anybody is ever going to use this review for a pleasant getaway to Hardisty) but you have to work around the employees at the hotel... they're nice but not he greatest at their jobs.
