Ask for Griselda when you visit the branch. Griselda has restored my confidence in Provident Credit Union. I have been a customer for over 25 years, generally visiting the Hayward branch for convenience, and always left unsatisfied with customer service. The tellers were generally nice, however there is frequent turnover, and and apparently training was insufficient. Therefore, transactions took longer to process-- anything beyond a deposit. Further, management was unprofessional and rude. Consequently, when I decided to review the term certificate options I "branched out" since I happened to be in San Ramon area. It was my lucky day because I was the next customer to be served at Griselda's window, and I received excellent service. She was professional, personable, patient and extremely knowledgeable about the options. She made sure I understood the options, inquired about my objectives in each situation, and was patient as I made my decisions. This branch is always painful whenever I have to go in for banking services. Just a generally unhelpful group of employees that don't seem to value their customers' time or basic courtesies. Coupled with the outdated technology provided by Provident overall, I recommend a hard pass for banking with this branch specifically. If you don't don't have to go into this branch, and are ok with outdated technology for banking, other branches might be an option, but this branch is a triangle of sadness. read more

I'm giving five stars to Maricela and only Maricela. She is very customer service oriented, pleasant to speak with, and has my account pulled up when I walk up to her window. Since Karla Estelle left this branch, the management has not been the same. There has been an influx of assistant managers, tellers/customer service reps, who have worked there since Karla's departure, and then it shows the lowering of the bar. I finally finding my way back to this branch because of Maricela and the way she transact with her customers I work and travel throughout the bay area and have banked over a dozen of your branches. Although, San Ramon is the closest branch to me, I often will go to other branches just to avoid that branch, but now that you have that shining light there, I will frequent my hm branch more often. read more

This rating is only for the Manager at this location I have been to many Provident locations it this location the staff always seem stressed out and a simple task that requires management attention takes a long time. HINT: The only reason you need to visit a branch these days is because the issue cannot be resolved online or on the phone. The manager does not leave her office and she is usually on the phone, the poor tellers have to message her multiple times to even get an answer. I have literally walked down to her office and asked her to come and help your tellers. IF YOU CAN AVOID THIS BRANCH PLEASE DO SO , or plan to be in there for over 30 minutes for even the simplest task. read more

I've had savings and checking at Provident Credit Union for years, and I've always been happy with their service. Today Johndel went above and beyond. I called to ask about their credit cards. They offer several and I wasn't sure which would be best. Johndel answered the phone. He said he could help me. In about ten minutes I'd chosen a card and given him all the information he needed to submit my application. About two and a half hours later he called back with a decision! When I called, expected the process to take days. Johndel was able to get a quick decision, and a decision that made me happy! He was very clear in explaining everything each step of the way. I went in as a non member to cash a $2500 check. They unfortunately could only cash $1500 of the check saying that they don't have enough cash on hand to pay me out and that they would have to charge me a $5 service fee to do so. So let me get this straight - you can't cash the entire check and you're going to charge me $5 to do so? I'm really confused. My takeaway in all this - If you're a non member and have a check don't come here because they don't have adequate cash reserves on hand and they will charge you for doing so. I have relationships with various banking institutions and have even worked in banking at one time and this is the first time I've ever been treated like this. Update: so I talk to this AVP and she states that she'd like to "turn this around" so I gave my statement of what had happened but it really doesn't do anything to better what had happened to me. I don't plan on going back so I don't know what good is this going to do for me. Where is my consolation for getting treated so badly? Considering that this was a primarily white neighborhood, I can't help but wonder if I had been white would I have gotten better treatment? Since talking to the AVP I am more inclined to think that way now. read more

I went to the dublin branch back in last april to get an account, I was very ill at that time but trying to start up a business after being disabled for 14 years. Andy Kim at the dublin branch entered my information wrong and proceeded to tell me I was not trust worthy, I spent months establishing my identity, putting bills in my name and even got my passport so I could give them another form of ID. I go in today to find out that he simply never checked the correct maiden name... I was denied and made to feel like a criminal because he simple judged my frail sick state as unworthy of trust vs they made an error. Maricela Frannco, a new employee caught the error Andy Kim an assistant manager made and I was cleared for an account no issues. It's january... I had my life on hold since last April because I was judged. Skip the Dublin branch and hit this one...especially if you are female. Maricela deserves a raise as I was her first application done on her own and she caught the error a manager made.
