    Shelley our tour guide

What a great time! Our guide to the spirits was Shelley and she was fantastic. It was rainy but she was a trooper and took us from place to place while keeping us entertained with her knowledge and sense of humor. I'll definitely take the tour again next year.

This was a fun tour and a great way to learn about Providence's paranormal history. It was a beautiful evening to be on the river with guide Courtney and Captain Tom. They were both very knowledgeable and entertaining. Thanks for a great time!

I couldn't have thought of a better way to kick off my favorite holiday season than with Providence Ghost Tours! The tour guides were funny, informative and provided a great way to experience Providence from another view. Starting at Prospect Park, have your cameras ready for some beautiful photo ops. The park oversees all of Providence and truly is a beautiful space. The tour continues around Benefit Street and the East Side making frequent stops at historical locations or places with a creepy history. (Queue my best Dracula laugh). I've done Ghost Walking Tours in several other cities and Providence's does not disappoint. Even local Rhode Islanders can expect to learn new information about Providence's history. Be prepared for a night of laughs, shocks and oh's and ah's of information that you never knew about Little Rhody. Recommendations: comfy shoes, a bathroom break prior (the tour does not stop along the path) and appropriate attire for the elements

I'm fairly certain that's a blue orb on the steps. The only "ghost" thing I caught, but still. It's crazy.

I've been working at Brown for 2.5 years (living in PVD for 3) and I didn't know ANY of the information I learned on the tour. I found it totally fascinating, a little eerie (the appropriate amount), and I would definitely recommend it for visitors and locals alike. We went on a drizzly night, which really leant itself to the mood. The group left in shifts (the first group left EARLY, talk about kill joys), but we were in the "latest" group with Stephanie...we're like the kids who sit at the back of the classroom and have the most fun. Steph did a great job--she was clearly knowledgable, good humored, and a great story teller. Courtney, the tour operator, also jumped in for a spell (ha, get it?) and gave the creepiest rendition of the University Hall Revolutionary War Hospital. She'd be great around a camp fire. The best part was that they incorporated historical events with contemporary stories (last year one of the guides saw a spector, for instance, while giving a tour) and I think skeptics, believers, and everyone in between can walk away with a good experience.

Sometimes when you're on vacation, it's tough to find evening activities besides eating and drinking. The Providence Ghost Tour was a great "local flavor" option that sure beat sitting in the hotel room watching TV. The $15 online ticket price seems quite fair for a 90-minute tour, and besides the tales of murder, mystery, and mayhem, it's a great way to see one of the most architecturally and historically interesting portions of the city. In late September, our 7pm tour was starting just after sunset, affording awesome views from Prospect Terrace Park. Thus it was quite dark for most of the tour, but the neighborhood was still bustling with pedestrian and vehicle traffic, which undermined the desired spooky atmosphere. It would be much cooler if the tour could start at 9 or 10...or midnight? I would be totally game for that, but I suppose that it might not be feasible. We didn't detect any spirits on our tour, but the stories were quite enjoyable and sometimes chilling; plus we learned a lot about the city and the university to boot. Oh, and at the beginning, the guide taught us the hierarchy of spirits--orbs, apparitions, spectres, and poltergeists. You never know when knowledge like that might come in handy, like writing a term paper on Scooby-Doo or some such.

We did the tour and had a blast! The ghost tour and historical stories were fantastic. Walking through Brown and RISDY was a fun bonus.

We had never been to anything like this or even really heard that much about it so we were interested to see what it was. WaterFire started about 30 years ago as an art installation that was meant to bring more people to the area and it definitely works. They light the braziers along the rivers, pipe beautiful music through the air and have volunteers on boats going from spot to spot, tending the flames and refilling the wood. There are tons of people there. Just walking and enjoying being outside and being together. The vibe is so relaxed and so peaceful but yet busy and exciting at the same time. It's kind of hard to describe unless you see it for yourself. We headed out around dusk when there was still light in the sky and it was a little chilly but I soon forgot about that. Words can't really express how you're just sort of drawn into the piece and beauty of this whole thing. I feel like this review can't even do it justice. We walked around for over an hour but our dog did start to get cold even though we had her in her jacket, so we headed back to where we were staying for a little while. Once it was dark and we were all warmed up, we headed out again because it was just so enjoyable to be there that we really wanted to come back. The second time we wandered through the street fair area and looked at some of the tables and street vendors. I got a really cool ring that was made out of a an old ornate spoon. There were also food vendors but everything was pretty busy so we ended up getting food on the way back to our hotel. There were families and groups of friends and couples, all just soaking in the magic and ambiance and ultimately we drifted back towards the water again because that is where the real magic is. We sat for a long time watching people float by in gondolas and watching the volunteers slowly push the boats through the canals, adding wood to the flames causing them to rise up. Everyone was friendly and in a good mood and strangers were chatting with each other. There was a real sense of community and peace. This was honestly one of the most romantic evenings I've had with my husband in a long time as well. We nuzzled noses and shared a few kisses to the music and the flame. If you are anywhere near Providence during WaterFire, don't even think about it just go. It's totally free! You don't need tickets or even to plan really. You can just enjoy the fire light and the music and being together in a beautiful place. It's absolutely unforgettable.

One of the Chinese dragon boats from the Pawtucket Dragon Races made an appearance as well. The event was very well attended, with many areas of the Riverwalk at capacity during peak times. Foot traffic jams made it difficult to navigate freely around the basin area. Lots of vendors and food trucks located around the RISD campus gave the event an even more festive flair. A great way to bring downtown Providence alive !
