I really wanted to like this place and we were excited to try it. When we arrived there was NO ONE there. The host greeted us without a smile and seated us. The waiter was very over the top friendly and pushy which made us feel like we were dealing with a used car salesman. When we mentioned we were there for Happy Hour the friendliness then turned to dismissive as he told us we would need to sit at the bar for that. We were sitting at a table next to the bar and the bar was all high tops. Again, NO ONE else was there. I asked if there was any low top seating that would count as sitting at the bar due to having a condition that would make it painful to sit on a barstool. He unapologetically stated "No". I was not going to pay more for my food and drink due to geography, so I stood at the bar. As we looked over the menu the bartender, host, and waiter stood at the end of the bar talking and gossiping. It seemed very unprofessional since we were the only ones there and we could hear their entire conversation. The bartender was very friendly. We ordered the bowl of queso and the bartender asked if we wanted it loaded and we told her no. We also ordered the bistec and chicken tacos with no pico de gallo. When the queso came out it was a small cup full of what looked like onions, but probably pico de gallo. We told the bartender we ordered the bowl and did not want the pico. She took it back and then gave us another small bowl and it was topped with meat. She could tell we were not happy and asked if everything was okay, so we explained we had ordered the bowl, not cup and just wanted plain queso, but at this point we told her it was fine. When the tacos arrived the bistec were covered in raw onions. This was not listed on the menu and not something either of us wanted which is why we said no pico. We sent those back as well but told her we did not want them replaced. We split the chicken tacos and were not impressed so we didn't order anything else. read more

I saw the neighbor salad plates looked appealing. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. He was kind to suggest the tacos. Frankly I suggest that you try something else besides the tacos. I also ordered the brownie and ice cream. It was drenched with hot fugue chocolate which made the brownie soggy. I placed the ice cream next to the brownie. Had the standard beef enchiladas, rice and beans but their menu is very diversified with lots of great entrée choices. When I walked in there were two very long tables full of people. A bit loud but very festive and enjoyable. Staff is super helpful with very friendly service. Came here for the first time today for brunch a couple of weekends ago.Our waitress told us they have been open for about a month. This is exactly the spot Harlingen needs! The inside was clean, modern and well-decorated. The staff was friendly and kind.The food came out promptly and was well seasoned. I got the asada y huevos, and although the steak was a little tough for my taste, it was still pleasently enjoyable. The star of the shows was the churros! It was hot, fresh and not too sweet. I tried to hide the flavor with the queso dip it came with. I almost broke a tooth with the rice. Every bite I would take, the rice was uncooked. My husband said the same about his mahi-mahi tacos. He said they were good, just preferred without the jicama. But his white rice was hard as well. A bit on the pricier end for Mexican food. Once we were ignored standing at the front while staff congregated around the bar, restaurant was mostly empty . This time we decided to try the crab cakes as an appetizer. The queso and crab cakes came out about 25 minutes later.. the crab cakes were burnt on the bottom and with no sauce . Our server said " oh yeah we are out of sauce" we sent the dry crab patty back lol. The rest of dinner was fine but the server was inattentive even though we were her only table. Halfway through the rest of the meal the server came out and said "we were able to make the sauce if you want the crab " . We passed .
