Showed up more than an hour late for a quote (bad…read moresign), promised us that it would take 1 day if he brought 4 guys BUT at the appointed day, came an hour late, brought only himself (!), when confronted gave a lame a$$ excuse, didn't apologize & sat down to eat, text & yak on the phone for an hour before finally getting to work. Sigh. This is going to be a LONG day. He had to move all the heavy furniture himself & damaged a piece. He was dismissive & unapologetic (laughed) but made a feeble attempt at "repair" when confronted. Also, each time his phone rang (which was constant) he would drop & stop everything to yak only to eventually cradle the phone & try to paint. Not a reassuring picture! Of course, he couldn't finish so had to come the next day. Next day, he brought an additional guy (I suspect because HE was in a rush to finish because he had another job planned) but tried to skip out without putting any furniture/pictures back in place (again had to be confronted), left soiled papers strewn about & refused to give me a receipt for a cash payment even though told repeatedly beforehand one was needed as proof of payment. (I had to to make one up right there, on the spot for him to sign). He acts as if HE's the boss. Unless you set him straight. Bottom line: You'll have to be assertive (he's that guy) otherwise, he'll walk all over you & take advantage. And even then, it'll only be an ok job.

Late last fall, we moved into a house…read morein Queens, which required a decent amount of work given the age of the building - our scope of work included refinishing flooring, painting the entire building (4 floors), basement refinishing, changing lighting structure, installation of handrails throughout the house, and bathroom remodeling. As you can imagine, contracting is a stressful process, especially since it requires a lot of trust and the size of the investment. We wanted to find someone who could handle the entire scope of work. After soliciting ~5 quotes, we chose Tomas since he seemed the most knowledgeable about safety codes, asked questions that reflected his knowledge of construction (many general contractors just outsource work while Tomas does a significant amount himself), he had a quote that included everything (allowed us to pick out materials and to pay for cost differences versus the assumed budgeted amount, we could just tell Tomas what materials we wanted and he would pick it up for implementation), and the final price was very reasonable. We ended up having him paint our old Brooklyn apartment as well since we were so pleased with working with him. PROS: - Tomas is very trust-worthy and can handle very large projects reliably. In a situation where he saw a safety issue in our boiler room, he went above and beyond to cover the room in metal sheeting for fire containment. We gave him our keys for entry/exit for several months and didn't worry about security. Tomas is very honest and we really appreciated his expertise and hard work - Tomas can handle projects of different types so it made the renovation process much easier. We could add on additional jobs which came at a reasonable price. Unlike various contracting horror stories, we had a really good experience and felt that he was very fair and upfront about costs - Tomas does quality work and doesn't try to nickel/dime for his work. (EX: for our Brooklyn painting job, we had a painter quote added fees for closet doors, an additional fee for one crack in the wall, and an additional fee for the ceiling height in the kitchen. Tomas just gave one quote and fixed up all the unseemly parts under the fixed price) - We are very pleased with our final result! We love our new bedroom lighting (recessed lighting that required new sheetrock for the ceiling), our revamped basement/bathroom, and the fresh coat of paint on the house. The before/after pictures are really significant and Tomas really transformed our space - Tomas is really reliable. We had an situation where we needed something on a hard deadline and an unfortunate mishap occurred. Tomas came in and fixed the problem even when it took him to 2 AM in the morning. CONS: - This isn't a negative on Tomas per se (we recommend him very strongly), but if you are refinishing wood flooring, probably better to go with someone who specializes in refinishing wood flooring since this is an area where specialization does make a huge difference versus a general contractor. Tomas is great in lighting, tiling, general contracting (bathroom/basement in our case), painting, among other activities, but wood flooring is an area that I potentially would have done differently. I'm not displeased with the result and Tomas definitely fixed our most problem areas, but for those who care about wood flooring in older houses, I think hiring a specialist would be better here. We highly recommend Tomas! He is truly great to work with!!

Jim is a true artist. We have a prewar rowhouse with lots of finicky details and some unfortunate alterations over the years. So far we have hired Jim for two jobs, one to skim coat our dining room, after we stripped it down to the cracked and gnarly plaster, the other to patch up our master bedroom and then paint the walls and ceiling. The former looks like the day it was finished by off-the-boat Roman masons 125 years ago. The latter is a now maybe our favorite room in the house, not least because of the cool gold ceiling that Jim created in our sleeping nook. Beyond his skills, he is smart, clever, and professional, and he consistently gets the job done better and faster than expected, without charging an arm and a leg for it. I hired Ben and his…read morecrew to paint my apartment last December, and ultimately I wish I had gone with a different painting crew. The problems were myriad, including: 1) A shoddy paint job showing a lack of attention to detail. As you can see from my attached photos, there were large splotches of mismatched colored walls in my closet, and a doorframe to one of my closets was obviously not painted carefully as evidenced by the poor finished product. Dried speckles of paint were sprinkled literally all throughout my apartment's floors. I spent well over 8 hours cleaning off all of the dried paint that these guys left behind on my apartment's floors, so they quite clearly do not cover the floors with any protective layer, nor do they demonstrate any care when doing the actual painting. 2) Garbage left in my sinks, and dried paint left behind all over my sinks and bath tubs. Totally understandable that these guys would wash their equipment in my apartment, but totally unacceptable for them to leave a mess of dried paint caked all over my sinks and bath tubs that I had to clean myself. 3) Poor communication and lack of follow up when these problems were brought to their attention. I sent numerous emails to Ben about these problems and gave him multiple opportunities to fix them, but he simply stopped returning the emails. Clearly, Ben and his company show little concern or care for ensuring customer satisfaction. All in all, I would absolutely NOT recommend hiring Ben and his crew for your next paint job. While they are definitely not the most expensive paint crew, the old adage 'you get what you pay for' is quite evident here. The shoddy craftsmanship, piss poor communication, general carelessness and inattention to detail, and disregard for customer satisfaction all add up to money that is most definitely not well spent here, and I would highly recommend NOT hiring Ben and his crew to paint your next project.

Upon reaching out to him (in the rare case he answered the phone) he was pretending to be nice but actually was not willing to come finish the job and kept postponing and then not answering the phone. We had to chase him down for more than two months and ended up giving up and hiring another contractor to finish the job.

I hired this contractor after a basement water leak. The scope included patching and repainting the…read morebasement walls, reinstalling the drop ceiling, widening the doorway entrance, and a small paint job in the entrance foyer and near the second-floor fireplace area. I chose him for his Chamber of Commerce membership, strong Google reviews, and because he offered the earliest start date (May 11, 2026) of the three contractors I was considering -- despite being the most expensive. The project felt rushed from the start. For seven straight days, only one employee did the actual work; the contractor himself showed up only on the last day, to clean up. That evening, around 8 p.m. and after dark, I was pressured to pay the remaining ~$5,000 balance (total cost ~$10,000) before I had a real chance to inspect the work. Trusting it had been done properly, I paid. Afterward, I found numerous workmanship defects -- I've documented over 100 photos, a sample of which are below. I didn't feel treated with the professionalism I'd expect, and I'd encourage anyone reading the glowing reviews here to weigh them against this account. I've already filed a small claims case; the court's certified mail to the contractor's listed address was returned undelivered, but I intend to pursue this through other means. Please review the photos and do your own due diligence -- get everything in writing before paying.
