I just contracted with Protect Environmental to have all well water tests except for Gross Alpha, Uranium, VOC's, SOC's, and PFAS. I got 3 apples-to-apples estimates, and P. E. was substantially the best price. Their technician who came to the home, Jacob Smith, was knowledgeable, precise with the steps he took to carefully gather my water samples, cleaned up well, was very courteous (a "yes, please" kind of person), and he even did a quick check/calibration of my own pH meter to make sure it was reading well! We recently had a passive radon system "activated" by this company which essentially consists of installing an inline exhaust fan since the passive setup wasn't doing the job. The quoted price was reasonable and the installation crew arrived right on time and completed the job in under an hour. They were very professional and obviously knew what they were doing. This company lied on my face for the installation price! Be aware, it is not an honest company! I wanted a radon mitigation system for my house. Called them as it was recommended by my neighbour. I was told it is $825 , I thought it was reasonable BUT when I asked further, they added another $800 for applying permission and to pay for the election, which is 1,600 per household !! I my next door neighbour got it don recently, it was only 825, then I was told , this is a new rule for Ann Arbor area, started 8 month again! So, this is the funny part---- my neighbour had it done in April which is in April, the " NEW rule " ( if it is ever a real thing ) should starting in February, why they didn't apply a this " new rule" to my neighbour?!!! I am completely disgusted by their dishonesty and bad attitude! Called another company right after, quoted $795 for the same job. read more

Hi, I moved into a house where ProTech had installed a Radon remediation system. The radon level in our basement was originally a 7.0 and their system dropped this to a 3.5 to 4.1. But it occasionally bumped up to between 4.2 and 4.7. I have small children and wasn't happy with this marginal result so I called ProTech to come out and fix the issue. They refused, telling me that unless the long term average was above a 4.0 they wouldn't fix anything. I ended up having another company come out to fix it. When they removed the PVC pipe they found that the pit that was dug was about two inches deep and three inches wide which is not how this should be done. The new company widened this until it was a foot deep and about 16 inches across. They also drilled holes out the side of the pit through the footing of my basement to pull in air from the outer perimeter of my foundation. I am happy to say the new company fixed my problem and my radon level is now about 0.5. It took them about 2 hours to fix the job that ProTech botched. I would avoid ProTech because of their poor initial install, and their subsequent refusal to correct the issue. Air Quality Control Agency is the outfit that fixed it up and made it work. They only charged me $125 to fix it and I was happy to pay it. read more

They were very knowledgeable and gave us options for where we could install the system. They were able to install the mitigation system quickly and it looks great. The cost was also reasonable and came with a 5 year warranty. I would recommend this company for radon mitigation systems. read more

My wife and I bought a new house and our radon reading was 3.9 (just below the threshold to have remediation). We decided to do it anyways since we will be using the basement as a gym. The two staff who came (Eric and Brett) were super friendly and informative. As they did an inspection of the basement they noticed a pre-existing "passive" system and were able to do a "passive to active" conversion. This saved us about $200. They explained everything to us and did a good job cleaning before they left. I would definitely recommend Protech if you are looking to get radon remediation for your house. The customer service was good from start to finish. Calls were answered right away, I was given a reminder call the day before the day of service and even had some follow up contact. The price was very reasonable given the danger posed by radon. read more

We just had radon mitigation done with this company. After searching around, making multiple calls and interviewing several other companies, we went with Protech. They have the best website with very helpful and accurate information. They are very opened about their policies and make sure you know what to expect. they have a great score on the Better Business Bureau, with no complaints (or few complaints) whereas some competitors had LOTS of complaints! On the day of service, a 2 man team came in, explained what would be done, and kindly asked if my 3 little kids would be napping soon. They were sure to get all the loud drilling done before nap time, which was GREAT for me! When they finished the job, they walked me through everything they had done, how to check to make sure it was working, what to do if it seems to fail (and to avoid a $125 service fee if someone just turns off the power to the fan!) and the warranties provided by the company. Overall, it was a great experience and they made me feel safer about the house. This could be a very scary situation, with radon being so closely associated with cancer, but they made sure to allay our fears and their produce should ensure that we have no future problems. read more

And we used them again when we were worried that the home we were selling had mold (turned out to be mildew, which scrubbed off easily - phew!). In addition to being very personable, the team was informative, professional, and timely. There was one small snafu that they handled quite satisfactorily. Initially, Protech set up our radon mitigation system well. However, after having the system for nearly 5 years, we noticed the fan was making a lot of noise. I called Protech twice to report this and both times they assured me that there was likely just ice in the fan and we shouldn't worry about it and the problem will likely resolve itself. Sure enough the fan system failed. However, by the time it actually failed, we were no longer covered by the five-year warranty (we were covered when I initially called). When I called and told them about this, Protech would not honor the original warranty and it cost us nearly $400 to replace the fan. read more

We had a very good experience with this radon abatement company. A representative came to measure the size of our basement and to look at where the tube would go in order to take the gas outside. The estimate was very reasonable. Then a team of two guys came and in and after about 2 hours they had installed a tube going from the sump pump hole to the outside and and then a vertical tube going above the roof line. They also covered the part of the crawl space that is behind a pegboard wall. They looked like spacemen while putting the plastic sheeting into that part of the basement. A motor sucks the gas out - it is so quiet that we have never heard it. The radon levels went from the teens to below 3.0! Pretty amazing. I feel much better going into the basement now. We got an electric radon monitor (the 1-time use devices are helpful only if you use one and find that the radon levels in your living spaces are below the EPA safety level) but I'm about to turn it off because after several months the levels are very stable below 3.0 (varying between 2.6 and 2.7). Maybe I'll turn it on once each year to make sure the abatement is working correctly. read more
