These guys are crooks, I brought my vehicle in for a brake and light inspection. A 350.00 dollar inspection. The guy at the front calls me, does not leave a voicemail so I called back. He stated my vehicle failed the inspection due to a brake light being out. I work in collision repair and my lights were all in working order. He then tells me he will put a bulb in for 80.00 dollars.I explained all light we're working when I dropped off the vehicle. He said well they aren't now. So I asked if I could come put a bulb in myself. He said if I did that he would have to charge me 700.00 dollars. It takes less than 5 minutes to install a brake light. So he pretty much strong armed me into paying the extra 80 dollars. I even called back to give tho owner a chance to call me before leaving a review. I never received a call. I can't say enough positive things about Pro Tech, the staff and service. I have a home in Tehachapi and my shop and other home is in Northern California. Without fail, my van develops a small and annoying problem when I am here a couple of times a year. This time, it was the high pressure power steering line. Two other shops couldn't be bothered to even look at it so I had been told it was the steering box. I swung by to have it looked at Pro Tech and the owner told looked at the van and told me it wasn't the steering box or its seals but the high pressure power steering line. He told me to get the line and make an appointment, which I did and when the line came in to the auto parts store, I made an appointment. I dropped the van off with the line, got a ride from staff to my home and quickly the line installed, an hour labor and my van back in order. 5 stars all around for the experience. I recommend Pro Tech on J Street to anyone who want's an honest business man and business that clearly operates with integrity. 5 stars for Pro Tech, Tehachapi. read more

Mechanic was excellent and super informative. Did the job. Only downside was customer service at front counter. Asked service advisor to break down cost of diagnostics and repairs and she was extremely rude to me. Threw my keys at the counter and said, " your service is done, you can go" I tried to difuse the situation and requested to please break down the service. Eventually she helped me but kept a stern attitude and even said, "she just stands there and looks like an idiot all day and doesn't know anything". Hesitant to continue getting my car serviced there because of this incident. May need to look for another shop and take my business elsewhere. read more

To the owner of Protech, if the lady up front is family or not, reviews are important to businesses and that lady has made a name for your place with her p*ss poor attitude by looking at all of the reviews about just her. The tech should charge her the $900-$1000 you just lost because of her. Hell, we should charge her for having our vehicle sit for no reason for a full 24hrs. She made an *assumption* keyword, based off of one statement, no clarification to continue services. Just turned it into "come pick up your truck, no charge, he won't touch it". She called us liars because "she knows what she heard" but really she's just not willing to tell the tech she made an assumption after he started working on our vehicle and she fkd up. I recorded the entire interaction with her because my gut told me we were about to experience what other people experienced with her. Just as expected, she delivered lol. Now our vehicle is at another local shop being fully repaired by polite, non-condescending professionals. I 100% do not recommend this place to anyone. Don't waist your time and money. They don't want it enough by having her up front. read more

We took our Prius in because it wasn't accelerating on the freeway going up hill and we could hear a noise coming from the wheel well. They charged us over 200 to diagnose us with a bad catalytic converter and wanted over 3000 to repair it. Charging for 2 hours for a diagnostic that wasn't going to be put towards the final bill is nothing short of robbery. The worst part was how rude the man was when attempting to demean my partner and I by saying things like "oh you had to go ask the boss" because I went inside with my partner to get an understanding of what was happening with our vehicle. These guys are great! Got an appointment very fast. Cheerful and helpful service. These guys have a sense of humor. My Honda had over 130,000 miles on it, so I got the full run-down service, checking for everything. We barely had time to go get breakfast before they gave us a call and said they were done. Very reasonable pricing. They gave me an estimate before the service was done and managed to knock about $25 off the final price. Very helpful and honest. *** Didn't make me replace anything that didn't actually need replacing. They didn't try to take advantage. Good folk. We came across Protech on our recent trip driving from Oregon to our home in Orange County. While going over the pass our Tahoe overheated and we were able to hobble to Protech. We had purchased a new travel trailer in Oregon and it was a bit much for the Tahoe to pull. So here we are a Saturday afternoon 4th of July weekend. Richard informed us we had a a cracked radiator and he is unable to get the part until Monday when he can drive down to Bakersfield to pick it up. He welcomed us to park and set up our trailer in his parking lot and hooked us up with water and electricity. We enjoyed our camping experience right there. Early Monday morning he was off the get the new radiator and after repairing and test driving while pulling the trailer we were off early afternoon. Many many thanks to Richard and his staff for going over and above to help us. Oh pricing was very fair. read more

We take all our vehicles to Protech in Tehachapi for smog. They give a small discount for canned food donations for smog service. They always are on time and complete smog quickly. Today, I returned a week after having my ABS module bleed a week ago, I felt there was still air in the brake system. Jeff at desk got me scheduled right away. They re-bleed my ABS and entire brake system at no charge. Jose one of the mechanics fully explained the process he used to bleed my ABS module with their scan tool. I recommend and will continue to use Protech. read more

Protech took on a very complex job for me; an engine swap on a Porsche. They explained how to break-in the new engine and what i could expect. The car now runs great! Both my wife and I trust them to do the job right. Prices are very much in line with most shops and way less than the Porsche dealer. They are our go-to shop. read more

Watch your wallet! I was in for a routine front end alignment. They said it could not be done due to damaged inner tie rod. They quoted me over $300 for the repair. I questioned the price in that a premium part was less than $30 and installations was about 30 minutes. He told me they use NAPA parts and the part cost $75 with labor $225. I called NAPA and they said part was $24.49. He charged me $51 for nothing. I was able to replace both inner tie rods myself in less than an hour with simple hand tools and get an alignment for just over $100. read more

We won't take our cars anywhere else! In the thirteen years we have been in Tehachapi, Richard's and the staff at Protech's, honesty has saved us thousands of dollars. At a routine service, the dealership informed us that the "composite bushings" on our car needed to be replaced. They estimated the cost of at least $800. We took it to Protech for the job. They inspected the car, even called the dealership to confirm what was needed, and determined the car was fine. Hundreds saved. Another time, our truck's check engine light came on during a trip. We limped home and found out that the light indicated a problem with the exhaust system. Fearing replacement of the catalytic converter and thousands of dollars, we took it in. Turned out that the sensor was dirty. They cleaned it with a Q-tip! Thousands saved! read more

I had an appointment for a simple oil change for 1 pm. My car wasnt taken back until 150 pm, whatever I can understand things happen. HOWEVER this place is filthy, caked in dirt covered in dead bugs, spider webs, live spiders, etc.. and these guys in the back are cussing up a storm while my 3 year old daughter can hear them, I don't mean one word or two I mean every word in the book, being yelled at the top of that guys lungs. Unnecessarily loud belching back there as well. Then as the owner (I assume) is ringing someone up one of the guys comes up to the front and is yelling at him about how he isnt doing it right, demeaning and very rude. This is not the appropriate display for their customers. Other people had also been very frustrated with their wait and service. I won't be back here and I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone. UNFAIR AND DISHONEST. I do not mind paying high labor rates for time spent or even paying slightly elevated parts prices for a good shop. There is a limit though. I brought my car in for a front-end alignment for $79. They said I needed right inner tie rod and it would be $317. I asked for a price breakdown. They said the part was $75 from NAPA and 2 hours labor plus $79 for the alignment. I said forget it. They charged me $51 for nothing. I went to NAPA and they said the price was $22 for standard duty an $44 for heavy duty ($75 was BS) I installed the heavy duty myself in less than 30 minutes using a free loaner tool from Autozone. ProTech has a hoist and air tools. The two hours they quoted me was BS. I usually go to All American Tire for alignment, but they were booked. A year ago, I took my van to All American and the mechanic took me in the shop and showed me why he could not align it because of a bad inner tie rod. Unfortunately, it was a Friday afternoon and the part was not available locally. He said no charge because he only spent five minutes checking the suspension. I ordered the part on the internet and All American installed it the following week. They charged me an hour labor and said they cannot warranty the part, but would stand behind the installation (they did not supply the part). Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY FROM DON's PROTECH unless you like getting overcharged and mislead. read more

I brought my vehicle in for a smog check which it failed, and brought it back to get fixed. Staff at the front were rude and dismissive, and spent a lot of time in idle conversation, not regarding business, while I waited to be helped. But I'm patient, so I let that go as just rude people. However when I got my keys back after the repairs, I found that the front seat belt latch is broken. It was fine 24 hours before when I dropped it off, and won't latch now. They refused to do anything about it, denied any fault (I get it, accidents happen) and simply suggested I spray some WD-40 in there and walked away. It is not safe to use, so I gotta spend another $50 to replace something that wasn't broken when I trusted them with it. If you have to get your car fixed, this should be the last place you take it. It would have been worth leaving it for a week in Bakersfield to not have someone break my truck through negligence. read more

Sent my wife here to get an oil change and they quoted me 59.99, they told me it was there special price. When my wife got home they charged her for "Extra" oil and the total was over 70.00. I truly felt like I got ripped off, even though it was only 10 dollars. I called and Polietly voiced my opinion and they said oil changes are for only 5 quarts. I am dissatisified! I told the gentleman the year, make and model before I brought the car there. They just took me for a ride, I don't care that its only 10 dollar difference. read more
