I used to love to shop here always found something different however I received a gift from there and wanted to exchange it and they refused to take it back saying the tag wasn't on it.of course it wasn't when you purchase a gift for someone they remove all tags and wrap it for you.The same bag was on the shelf all I wanted to do was to get one I would use you know your merchandise they should have exchanged it.now they lost not only my business but my family and friends.poor customer service will never shop there again! read more

I have shopped here on several occasions and every time I regret it. The items sold are lovely; Vera Bradley, Brighton jewelry, Alex & Ani- all of which can and should be purchased elsewhere. The owners of this store ruin the experience. They are rude and condescending. I always leave feeling a bit uncomfortable and I regret spending my money there. My mother uses a walker for mobility. One of the women who work in the store literally followed my mother around and kept telling her to be careful and not hit anything with her walker. When my mother informed the woman that she is careful and would be sure not to hit anything, the woman said to her again that their store was different and that my mother needed to be careful (again). This store IS NOT disability friendly. You will be followed around as if you will destroy the entire store. Do yourself a favor and find another store. read more

I didn't feel like driving far last week and was in a pinch for a gift so I stopped in against what my friends told me about this place. The older women stared me down didn't say hello, didn't ask if I needed any help, it was so strange and uncomfortable. This store is delightful. It has nice gifts for others (or yourself). They carry brands such as Vera Bradley, Alex and ani, Brighton, and other specialty gift item brands. They have gifts that suit many price ranges (got my boss a couple bead bracelets that donate % of proceeds to a particular charity for $20, Brighton earrings for sister $20, a little notepad stocking stuffer for less than $10. There are plenty more items that are pricier if that is what you are going for). Variety of items to choose from-bags, accessories, gloves, jewelry, pens, you name it! The employees are all extremely helpful and patient, making appropriate suggestions without being pushy. read more

Great local store with lovely items whether for yourself or as a gift. Very unique baby/young child gift ideas such as a dog house made of fabric with little detachable puppies looking out the windows. Large selection of Alex and Ani. Salespeople always point out the new and exciting. read more

I know that Protass has been around for years.....a staple for many of my friends....but this is the first time in a while that I have walked in and boy have I been missing out! My granddaughter wanted a special/trendy bracelet that apparently they specialize in. The saleswoman that helped me knew exactly what i wanted and brought me several to choose from. ...but I couldn't leave. The displays were so tempting and the stuff they sell is beautiful.....if my friends are reading this....Christmas/Hanukkah has been taken care of this year. No one rushed me and I spent close to an hour picking out gifts and a few things for myself as well. Protas is a true neighborhood find. read more

Don't shop here. Don't support staff who treat customers the way the women at Protass in Oceanside do treat people. I'm a lifelong resident of Oceanside and a teacher on the South Shore of Long Island. I came in to the store once, dressed well with my children (not babies or toddlers, mind you) who are very well behaved. They looked me up and down and I suppose from the first moment they saw me, they decided I was worthy of being followed around and hovered over. Why? No clue. They made for an awkward, cold, and invasive environment while browsing for jewelry as a gift for my sister, constantly interrupting my small conversation with my children and loudly interrupting a phone call I was on (asking a family memeber about a gift I could have bought there!). The final straw happened when they told one of my children not to touch or smell anything or put their mouth near anything, which was unnecessary and made no sense. I felt like giving this old, cranky, uptight woman a piece of my mind, but I have a reputation to uphold around here. Don't support a business that isolates customers who they want and who isn't worthy based on superficial judgements of customers from the moment they walk in the door. We don't need this pretentious business in Oceanside. Places like this aren't what make this town great. We walked out. I won't give this place my business, ever. read more
