We've only ever had a pretzel here as far as food goes. It was tasty but not why we came. The ability to get non-ipa, quality German import beer done right was exactly why we came and were not disappointed. About 10-15 options so not a fall full of choices but all are quality and well curated not just peddled. The ambiance is great inside, it's a little taste of a Bavarian pub and the outdoor dining options about too. Some bbq from Matt's and a giant German beer? Yes please. The service has always been excellent as well. Personable bar tenders what help but aren't lurky. Don't forget to ask for their loyalty punch card. We are working our way to our own personal lederhosen and should be there in 50-60 more years. :) read more

Cute hidden gem on Mississippi. It looks unassuming from the outside but once you step in, it is very lively. Everyone that works here was so friendly and had great recommendations on what to get. I got the pretzel and the beer cheese soup. Dipping the pretzel into the soup on a cold fall night with good company around you was honestly kind of healing. At Prost right now for the USA vs Australia world cup game, we waited in a line outside the door for the bar for an hour and someone (We believe he was an employee) opened a side gate and let people who weren't in line in before everyone else. On top of that they have two small TVs inside the bar and on the porch for the hundreds of people that show up. The outside area with food carts has a good amount of tables and the TV is huge. Service is still good and the bartenders are nice, just wish it was set up for the world cup game they are advertising. read more

May be we went on a very busy Friday night, but the service and the whole vibe was off putting. First of all, it was so hard to find even standing room anywhere. All the tables were occupied and some of the patrons were inconsiderate to put their feet up on the benches so no one else can sit. The staff at Prost were also cold and unfriendly in service we felt - may be they are just tired and overworked, which is understandable for a busy night. Overall, didn't feel welcoming or like a nice place at all. With so many great breweries and food pods in Portland, I don't think we'll ever come back again. read more

We have been going to this bar for years! This bar has grown in popularity! If you are looking for solid beers then this is your place! Especially if you desire German beer! If you are a non beer drinker the menu provides hot toddy's, mulled wine and more! A drink for everybody! There is a small food menu as well that features sausages and soups! The area outside the bar has food trucks too! Plus there is a second bar outside! The seating consist of a few stools at the bar and bench tables! Some tables are communal! There is more seating outside with fire pits! We had some refreshments and snacks during our visit! I had the beer cheese soup. A bowl without bread is 7 dollars, a little high! The soup was super salty! And for the price it should come with Bread! Also the menu said chives would be on top of the soup but the soup did not have chives! Husband had landjaeger for six dollars that came with two small pieces of bread, mustard and very little meat! He was not pleased with the amount of meat per the prices: he spoke with the staff and the staff responded with that's the amount they always provided! As we been coming here for years, we questioned that response! Given our food experiences I would skip these food items! Just come for drinks or try the food trucks! If you like sausages: the sausage sandwiches did look good! If we were to rate this place on our waiter and drinks, we would give this place five stars! We enjoy German beers & food, so I had this place on my radar to try. The decor is cool & they have a big covered patio, too. There is also a few food carts next to the patio with otter food options if you don't want their German fare. The service was slow & I don't think the same server came back twice, but a bit slow is to be expected on a Saturday evening in hip Boise neighborhood of Portland, I guess. We had a couple rounds of good beers and I had the bratwurst sampler for dinner, which was quite tasty (2 kinds of sausage, 2 kinds of mustard, kraut, & rye bread). The Hubs and our friend both had the pretzel-bun sandwich, and they both said it was good, too. One odd thing was the music they were playing was current pop music, which is a bit at odds to their German-theme. Prost is great! Really enables anyone to enjoy a cultured European-esque lifestyle that includes extremely large beers for a pretty good price. In this early stage recession you really have to take what you get and a $14.50 (12.72 euros) 1L (33.184oz) is truly a special experience. I mean technically you can order two beers at any bar and have the same amount of liquid but the cups are not big enough. Ambiance is quite fun but their rewards incentivizes a concerning amount of beer consumption. To get liederhosen you need to spend $62,500 (54848 eur) to drink 5000 beers! Quite impressive. A great way to spend a night putting down some pints with your friends (blokes). read more
