I particularly like the Prospect Venue as I have found the staff there particularly friendly and always keen for a brief chin wag while scanning your goods....not too much of a chat, just enough to pass the check out time. No one likes a 'Chatty Cathy'! P.S. If you have a sweet tooth like myself you save a bundle if you stock up rather than going to traditional sources!

Anyhow, my point is that the 'use by' or 'best before' is just a date for legal purposes (for many but not all products)...there is a bit of flexibility here. Those of you unfamiliar with the Rite Price chain may wonder why I am bringing this up, so here's the deal: Rite Price is a discount supermarket. Not all, but most of there wares are on the shelves because they are near this use-by or past their best before and are therefore severely discounted. So here's a depressing fact - 20% of all our groceries go to waste...and I recall that when we had the supermarket, a lot of stuff ended up in the bin. It's such a shame to straight out waste food - but you can prevent food being wasted by supermarkets AND save yourself a BUNCH of dolla dolla by having a look at Rite Price! Now they don't have EVERYTHING but if you head here first, you can definitely plan around what you can find and as the previous reviewer wrote, yes there are always plenty of cheap treats for the sweet tooth. Recent bargains - HUGE wheels of cheese - brie, blue and all the fancy ones, still in date for a few days for only $4.50. Perfect for the weekend picnic, yes? Added bonus - they are now open til 7pm on Thursdays for all those who work all day long! - enjoy the cheap life!

Inside there are stacks of pastas, preserves, oils and vineagars and of course, fancy imported wine and cheese in which they specialize. In addition to functioning as a gourmet food store, Botega Rotolo also offer cooking classes at which one can be initiated into the cooking secrets of the Italian masters (like garlic is for slow cooking and onions for fast cooking and never the twain shall meet). The quality of the produce here is high and things are certainly not cheap, but it is quite good value considering what you are paying for.

Bottega Rotolo also hold their own cooking classes. After all what's the use of having all those ingredients if you don't know what to do with them. Their classes include everything from total hands on experiences to demonstrations as well as a combination of the two. Burger...Latin American food.....burger.....Latin American food. I think that bounced back and…read moreforth in my head for 13 minutes and 4 seconds whilst standing there on Magill Road in St Morris. The intention was to eat at Burger Foundry but I had missed eating some good authentic Latin American cuisine and so in to Latino House we went. The lady who ran the restaurant, Helen, was very warm and friendly and made us feel so very welcome. We got handed our menus and sat down. A lot of what is on the menu is very familiar to me. I had eaten and cooked this kind of cuisine for close to 10 years of my life. I was getting very excited! It was a hard choice to pick what we wanted to eat and were worried if we were biting more than we could chew, so after a short discussion and some help from Helen we chose our food to share. She did advise us that the food may take a little longer than usual as she was working on her own due to the chef having to go overseas at short notice. CHICHARRON CON YUCA This was two cooked pieces of cassava covered with a traditional type of salsa and crispy pork belly. I love cassava! It's white, it's fluffy and has a texture similar to that of cooked parsnips. The pork wasn't over seasoned, just the perfect hint of salt. My only peeve with this dish was there were a few pig hairs sticking out of the pork skin. BANDEJA PAISA This plate consisted of two chorizos (as Helen couldn't find the ground beef), frijoles which is refried beans and crispy pork served next to a pile of rice, two fried eggs, white corn cake and plaintain (maduro). For anyone who doesn't know what plantain is, its similar to that of a banana but you'd only really ever eat it cooked. Don't be scared about the sweetness of the plantain with the savoury components of the dish, it really is an amazing flavour combo. The rice, although looked plain was in fact very flavoursome. The chorizos tasted like the homemade variety and were very lean and had a delicious intense pork flavour. Frijoles were also delicious. Once again I had one peeve with this dish. The avocado was mottled brown. For me, the flavour of it was still good, but my Mum felt hers had an unusual sourness to it. Helen did apologise for the way the avocado looked. On the side we had a simple salad which really lifted the heavy carb load of the dishes. For a drink we decided to order the Aguapanela with lime. WOW!!! Honestly if you want to order drinks at this place, I suggest you order this drink. It's not too sour nor too sweet and is just beautifully refreshing. Just before leaving I decided to order a tamale to take away. Although the menu states Tamales, you only get one. Don't be concerned about that though, they are quite large and very filling. I haven't made tamales Salvadoreños in a very long time and this Colombian version's smell just brought so many memories back. It's very similar in smell, taste and that its also wrapped up in banana leaves. This brings a flavour dimension that will leave you wanting more. It really is hard to explain the flavour and textures of a tamale in a review without me writing a mini novel as I am just so passionate about these little parcels of deliciousness. So feel free to come on down to Latino House and order one for yourself. All in all I think this place is pretty good. There were a few things that needed room for improvement but I would still come back and eat here again as I felt like I was eating back at my ex-mother in law's place having a home cooked meal.

It'd be awesome if they started serving Sth American booze on their list too, but I know that's a whole bigger process to get licensed! The coffee is fair trade and strong, and the atmosphere is bright and welcoming, I will definitely be returning to give this place a try for a proper lunch or dinner with friends.

There are a few of these butchers around the area so if you want to get really picky about what you spend and how much you get for your dollar there is another place within a ten minute walk, where you can go compare the price and cuts of meat - on South Road - so even if you think you are getting a bargain you can go double check if you really want to. It does get busy at times and you may find yourself waiting a few minutes, but it is worth it. The meat is delicious and the place smells and looks very clean.

I'm going to digress, for a moment, to their website, which, as well as explaining where to find them, and showing a full list of specials available, also gives the best explanation I've seen to the cuts of meat that are made from lamb, beef, pork and chicken, but also shows the differences, the correct terminology for each cut, and where it comes from on the animal. Brilliant stuff. Back to the store - a firm family favourite here is the yiros meat they supply - we've previously gone with the fresh product and picked up sauce, wraps, lettuce etc and made them up from scratch, but the great solution for a quicker dinner is the $25 pack they supply, complete with one kilo of par cooked meat that takes minutes to finish off to a beautiful, juicy offering, wraps and sauce to make up ten yiros. Again, brilliant stuff. Speciality Foods prepare products that you'll see in stores all around Adelaide, as well as being able to purchase direct from their store. They have the freshest meat, and every cut and joint of meat you can imagine. It's a trek from my home, but the savings are definitely worth it for top quality product. The carpark gets a bit frantic at times, but Thebbie Rd is a bugger to park on, so slip on in and wait your turn for a park - they're masters at keeping the turnover going so spaces open up all the time.

I love sharing food and so this place suited me perfectly however my partner was hoping we would go out for the "main meal" after dining here! Every dish was incredibly well flavoured and spiced as well as being rich enough to be filling. It wasn't the healthiest meal but every we tried couldn't be faulted. From the thai chicken balls with a caramelly soy sauce to waygu meat balls, fennel and orange soaked olives (my fav) and the fried haloumi it all worked well with each other and what we were drinking. This venue is also deceivingly larger than you would expect as you walk up to the counter (in a room behind the front bar and dining area) and can explore a larger carpeted dining and entertaining area as well as seating out the side of the house. It has been furnished very classically with old wooden chairs and tables but given a modern twist with the quirky addition of wine glass chandeliers and a mirrored room indoors. Last night we got an off the cuff invite for drinks at 16:30 and to hear a band The Prospectors. Arriving late (that's our style) we missed the first set so sat out the back with a glass of bubbly and had a chat. There are a variety of rooms from the main with couches, large and small tables and bar stools, to small quiet intimate side rooms that can be used for groups. The wine is varied, many by the glass at fair prices and the staff are well versed in wine so are able to find something you'll like. The food is so very tasty. Mustard cheese bread, arancini balls, crushed potatoes and a three cheese plate. Ordered just at the end of the bands second set we were up on the dance floor. Tradition states with The Prospectors, that one of their last songs of an evening is 'dancing on the streets' in which you go and do just what the song says. A final note on the first Wednesday of the month they do a wine food pairing night with a local wine producer. It is a very popular event often being booked out weeks if not months in advance (we booked the last seat for the December event, 2 months in the future from time of posting) So expect an update in a few months.

Most of you will be purchasing your meat in the meat department at one of the big supermarkets, but let me tell you - there really is something special about the old school variety of butcher where they store the whole source in their cool room out back and cut it off as required. This is the case at Corinthian Meats up the road from where I live, and the difference is really something. The meat is less wet, the freshness is very clear and obvious and the scent is not at all like that old smell you get when you peel the plastic back off of the small back tray of meat you bought in the supermarket. I'm just saying. The other really cool thing is you can discuss the meat and what to do with it. You can have it cut in a particular way to suit a special recipe. You can even hire a spit to have a big home backyard roasted critter, such as a pig or a baby cow... I know it doesn't suit everyone, but for some this is just brilliant. For under $200.00 you can hire the spit, purchase the coal and get the whole lot delivered. The meat costs more obviously... I just think you can not go past a really clean and fresh butcher on the local level. Try it out and smell, see and taste the difference.
