Caruso's Fresh Foods on Jetty Road at Glenelg is much more than just a greengrocer. While they…read morestock ample supplies of all the best quality fruit and vegetables sourced daily from the Adelaide Produce Markets, they also carry a range of other foods making them a one stop shop - more like a mini market than just a fruit and veg shop. As well as your fresh produce you can also pick up cold meats and smallgoods, fresh dips and pates, a myriad of Olive varieties, quiches and ready made salads. I personally love their Arrancini which are like risotto balls in a 'to die for' Bolognese sause. Oils ain't oils anymore with what they have on offer at Caruso's in the oil department. You can get your hands on brands and varieties including Pendleton Estate, Lucia's Fine Foods, Maroudas olive oils, Brookfarm Macadamia oil, Jamie Oliver's Avocado Oil, Rice Bran Oil and Azalea Grapeseed oil. There's also a range of coffees, teas and (my personal favourite) chocolates in the store. Caruso's is located about half way down Jetty Road and are directly opposite the end of Waterloo Street.

Being a healthy eater, I love my fruit and vegetables and Caruso's is one of the few places outside…read moreof the Central Markets that I buy my weekly supply. It isn't the cheapest place to shop but the quality and selection is second to none. It is also very convenient as it has one of the best continental deli sections in the area. This section is headed up by Julie who remembers the names of the regulars and enjoys a chat with them as she slices the meats. They have a wide selection of hams and their short cut bacon is a hit in my family. I love the fact that you can cook a whole meal from this one place without having to venture into a cold impersonal supermarket. You can buy specialty bread, milk, eggs, a variety of cheeses and pasta to go. As a regular, all the staff turn to say hello as I glide past with my trolley. At the checkout, if you are ever there say hello to Ollie, she has been there for years and is good value, always reminding me to get my loyalty card out when I forget. Her till is the one closest to the wall. Tip: If you are buying lots of groceries and your car is a distance away, the lovely staff will help carry your bags to your car door!

Since I discovered The Meat Market, I've stopped buying meat from my regular supermarket chain. The…read moremeat here is fresh, good value for money and they have the best cuts in town! At my last visit, I couldn't resist the lamb and mint patties which later proved to be a hit with the family. I also grabbed a bargain with the twin pack chicken retailed at $8.95, which was perfect for a roast. I love that they stock Beerenberg products here and if you're running out of time and want to avoid another pit stop, pick up some pasta, vegetables and sauces here. For the blokes who love their roasted pig, a spit and mobile coolroom is up for hire. Perfect for those summer barbies. Excellent customer service, clean and bright aisle and the website is a must to go, for weekly specials and recipes. Check out their daily specials on Facebook and Twitter.

But until that day it stands as a land mark for customers turning into the off street car park. It is a direct to the public wholesale butcher offering a fantastic range of meat products any carnivore dreams of and at reasonable prices too. Be sure to sign up for their rewards card and e-mail list to get the latest specials on offer or just look up their website. There are ready to go prepackaged meat packs in the supermarket style fridges or ask for it still mooing from the meat counter display. Want it minced, diced and sliced? No problem, done. A few centre shelves stocked with herbs and spices serve as a quick meal idea and in case a quality butchers knife is required, look no further, they use them why not us. Open 7 days a week so you're never stuck for something to bring to the BBQ.

The Haighs chocolate pandas are pretty good, hey at least you can get one good experience out of…read moreWang Wang and Funi. Now, I don't find it hard to walk past Haighs, ever. not even when it's that time of the month and I may just kill someone for a hit of cocoa. I like to look in the windows but that is about as far as it goes for me, I think this is due to the price of Haighs products. For those of you who have a chocolate allowance each week I say, feast in style, even the wrapping makes my mouth water and if chocolate is your vice then indulge in style. This outlet is smaller than the one on Rundle Mall so if you're looking for huge variety and extravagant gift baskets then perhaps go there. Chocolate Panda = $9.95, it's worth digging up a tenner for this one.

Haigh's is a South Aussie icon that's achieved national and international success. One taste test…read moreand you'll know why. And yes with every purchase, or upon request, you get a little freebie piece of heaven. This is the top shelf stuff, it's the kind of quality only money can buy (and probably a fair bit more coin than you usually fork out for choccies). From the cabinet full of delicious truffles, to the boxed hand-made soft and hard centres, it's all good. For the puritans out there the plain milk block is equally as divine as its more complex counter-parts. And the Speckles remind me of my childhood, albeit a more glamorous one than the real one involving Freckles. If you're trying to cut down on the chocolate (though why would you with a store like this around?) I find it very satisfying to buy the little Teddy Bears or Frogs as one goes further than a hunk of the cheaper stuff. My one big whinge (oh I hate when we fight) was they ran out of most stock the day before Easter - yes RAN out! A testament to their popularity but come on you've been in business for 95 years and all you do is make chocolate which Easter just may have a little something to do with. But Haigh's even with that kind of a right balls-up I just can't stay mad at you. In a nutshell - melts in your mouth!
