I immediately went to Prairie State Bank & Trust and they made it all better! Alyssa helped me immediately and I was done in under 20 minutes. She took my info, set the account up, explained the paperwork, and not once did I feel rushed or overwhelmed (or like I was a bum for wearing work clothes). The entire time she was very professional and sweet. The building itself is nice and clean (even the parking lot was spotless lol). My butt should have listened to my mom and gone here first! Thank you Alyssa and Prairie State Bank & Trust for taking such good care of me after PCN failed miserably.

That said, there are some small things that are annoying. Their home loan wasn't the best I could get shopping around. It was easier for me to finance my car with the dealer on a weekend. My spouse gets locked out of her ATM card because she doesn't use it every six months. Two visits and still nothing accomplished. The first visit at the mattis branch I was told that I had to talk to a"banker" because apparently tellers at Chase aren't allowed to handle much more than basic transactions. The banker never came out to help. Waited an hour and left. The second was at the University branch and when I did speak with a banker he acted like it was a privilege to talk with him. No introduction, barely looked away from his computer and when I left there wasn't a thank you, a hand shake nothing. Needless to say they will be losing 4 accounts because of the lack of customer service.

My rating is just average. I'm looking to join a new bank, and was hoping that the website would…read moregive me enough information to understand HOW the various checking account options work. Does this bank charge for mobile deposits (checks made out to me deposited via the app)? ever? always? Does it charge for any other kind of digital deposit (paypal, venmo etc)? I can't figure it out - it's like they don't really want me to know about how their accounts work. Sadly, this is likely to mean that I don't find out whether it's good to bank at First State. I'm not going to gear up to switch banks unless I can find one who still has what mine used to have before it was acquired by a bigger bank. I know websites take work, but building a static page that really lets folks know about the accounts the bank offers is NOT hard. Disappointed,.

The teller I talked to sounded impatient with me in explaining their service (her tone of voice, no smile, ways of answering, for example). She wanted to know if I'd be opening an account just for the currency exchange. If so, they "don't do that," she said. Again, the way she talked to me sounded like "looking-down-on-you" or "are-you-just-taking-advantage-of-us" to a potential customer because I was willing to keep the account for some time (to which she said, "ok"). She's supposed to be a supervisor, as the sign at the counter suggested. Her rather straightforward, no-mincing-word-talk sounded like this bank just wanted to make money, not to nurture loyal customers. I don't recommend this bank.
